Really I dont get it. All that bling shoot you up muth fukken bitch stuff. Sugar Hill Gang rocked, Public Enemy awsome, so where did all go wrong. Any suggestions of stuff I should be listening to that will change my opinion? I used to pride myself in being able to appreciate most music forms, but hip hop today just sucks...same goes for modern r'n'b...:dance:

Man I listen to a lot of hip hop. There is tons of good hip hop out there. I think what you are referring to is the shitty mainstream rappers out there like lil wayne and fat joe. There is a lot of stuff like Atmosphere or other artists from rhymesayers that are really good. I could list artists for days but most people like atmosphere's stuff, see if you like it.
It's simple...Hip-hop got exploited.People of ALL races exploited hip-hop.I even seen her being exploited in Japan...

I understand your hatred. Because what you are seeing is that mainstream formula that corporate america shoves down your throat.. I challange you to listen to Tanya Morgan, Jay Electronica, Blu, Pacific Division, Busdriver, Out of sight, Just to name a few. I just want to see if you have the same feeling after listening to them.. then I can prescribe you with the proper hip hop medicine

Mainstream anything pretty much blows at this point in time..
I've been getting into Glitch music, (ie Glitch-hop artists The Glitch Mob)
for Hip Hop, i listen to a lot of Jedi Mind Tricks.. check out A History of Violence, that is a good album.. a bit on the hardcore, but the lyrical content is what gets me into hip hop personally..

Jadakiss, styles p, sheek louch, Immortal technique, A tribe called quest, mobb deep, juelz santana (Actually I fuck with dipset hard.) DMX, ransom, and Pharohe monch just to name a few of my favorite. I love hip hop and rap idc if it is violent or not the wordplay is amazing half the time.

How can you not care if the lyrics are promoting violence? That's a shitty attitude to have bro. DMX isn't exactly the type of guy you want to be.. he's straight fucked in the head now.

i hate hip hop too, but there are a couple good songs out there. i hate country, but there's a few songs i like. even the most horrible of styles is bound to have a few good songs. real talent will always shine through, no matter what crap is floating around with it.

i personally feel its been raped and pillaged.
Just for execs to make $$$$
People need to realise Hip Hop is made up of Four elements,
Which is a lifestyle/Culture.
Rapping is one element,
which has been marketed and commercialised beyond belief these days.. It's fucking pitiful!
Theres some good music out there, we just have to search alot harder to sift through all the bullshit.

being in the music business, i can say for sure that rap/hiphop is easily the worst to deal with. i record people for a living and i charge what i consider a fair price. however, i apparently charge too much for hiphop. can't tell you how many times i worked on a song where the artist was bragging about how much money/drugs they had and not want to pay more than 20 bucks for the 6 or 7 hours i spent polishing their turd. they can't even hook up a decent sack! sure, there's people who take their time and do it right but 99% think they're famous just because their voice is on a cd. i blame the parents.
and these arent just the local shitty wannabes either. some of these artists have grammy nominations and are taken very seriously by a lot of people. i'd name names, but i don't want to get shot at.

bullshit rap IS hip hop. Hip hop is more like the lifestyle than the music.
its pretty dumb to say hip hop and rap are completely different like they have nothing to do with each other when the founders of "hip-hop" were "rappers" not "hip-hoppers"

i agree with your statement to a certain extent. hip-hop is a lifestyle, but it's also a genre of music. hip-hop and rap are not completely different, their roots are intertwined from the beginning. the founders of hip-hip were/are EMCEEs, orginally, M.C.s, short for master of ceremonies, called such because they would talk/or host ceremonies over djs scratching/mixing at block parties and local events. this eventually turned into it's music form, hip-hop. to rap simply means to converse or to talk, or to talk over a beat. hence an emcee is a rapper.
but let's look at the genre of gangsta rap. gangsta rap is not hip-hop, nor is hip-hop gangsta rap, therefore rap and hip-hop are not the same thing although hip-hip emcees are rapping. there are many other sub-genres within hip-hip/rap. to try to put it all into one category is ludicrous...at least if you don't break it down into smaller, more manageable categories.
same as classic rock and grunge aren't the same, yet both are rock and roll.
all music is intertwined.

Yo! About the lil Wayne Thing...
He has wrote more songs than eminem could EVER write,
Oh, that's right, Wayne doesn't write, hasn't wrote a single rhyme on paper since back in the day. ( like five or 4 yrs ago)He put everything he ever wrote on one album, and now he freestyles ALL his shit. Which takes way more skills than sitting down making up words that rhyme. Wayne spits WAY harder than M ever will hands down. Ur white so its ok u don't know...lol.
( don't b offended, I'm white too) but I am obviously more educated in the rap game. ;)
And I deff agree that rap and hip hop are diff slightly in style, I'm not diggin all this "jerk" stuff, and guys in girl pants rapping and using weed to try and be cool. Lol idk rap has changed.
I like slow jams personally,

Now a.days talkers are singing in their songs, look at Drake. I like his style, not his new shit though. And you would be surprised at the number of rap/hip hop artists took classes or went to academys for the music profession. And some rappers can sing very well, rap/ hip hop is a unique style of expressing emotion andtelling stories. It's cool that a lot of ppl don't like it, they're gonna sell the shit outta those records anyways. It's when ppl get so upset about it, that's silly. I had someone tell me once " you keep cramming that music up and its not very lady like." What? Ok I do have loud speakers and I was listening to lil boosie, but still, is it really something to get bent out if shape for and let it bother you? To each their own guys, I personally can't stand screamo, and light rock. It's all god either way you go, if I pull up on someone bumping some slipknot full blast, I'm not gonna say "wow how ignorant," or whatever, no, I'm gonna say: "Damn! That dude (or chick) is rockin out!"
I'm just saying, I try to respect ppls ways of expressing themselves, and enjoy the entertainment in this world as much as possible!
So much negativity.
