i soak for 24 hours, sometimes i use something called jumpstart,it helps but i use it very sparingly. after 24 hours i toss what is floating and i take what is sunk and i put it between 2 damp napkins and place it in a 1 inch deep 4 inch round container, wrap it in a dark hand towel and put it ontop of my reptile enclosure, its about 90 ontop and i let that be for 36 hours .after 24 hours all the seeds should be cracked open dont rotate them or the roots will grow funky.
once i see them cracked open i start to get my soil ready. i use party cups, but 2 liter bottles with the tops cut off and ALOT of holes poked at the bottom works great as you can place back on the plastic top and have a greenhouse!
soil care. place your soil in your container, if you use cups fill it just over half way. poor equal amount of ph adjusted water into each cup and let it drain and dry for about 30 min or longer.
get your seeds, place them in the dirt and cover them with about 1/2 inch of dirt on top, do not water, do not press down. cover with plastic wrap and leave them alone under what ever light you choose. if cfl place it 3 inches from tops of cups
if using 2 liter do the same method only fill the thing up with soil and soak with only half as much water about 2 cups per 2liter bottle shoudl do fine. poke a hole with your finger 1/2 inch down and drop seed in and cover back up loosely. cut slits in the top of the 2 liter bottle upward so you can bend the edges in and fit the top inside the bottom half to help keep moisture in. if you dont do this then you wont see droplets form inside the dome, meaning not as much humidity!
you dont have to water for a while as long as you see droplets on the plastic

ahhh thats been a real help cheers mate,
i saw on a site that when your soaking the seeds you should have them in dark and near a constant warmth, does this help to speed it up or is it needed

Forget soaking the seeds. Like said in another post from ImageReaper...Does mother nature soak seeds in water for 24hrs? Try using some peat pellets from Wal-Mart. All you have to do is soak the pellets in warm water till they expand and turn dark brown. Then put your seed only 1/4 to 1/2 in deep and put a little bit of the moss in the pellets over the seed, but don't pack it. Just put something over it so the seed has some cover and it also aids in getting the seed off the roots when they grow. Once they pop and open up to show leaves I plant them straight into my medium. Just like mentioned above, Solo cups will work fine for the first couple weeks at most.

Tell me about it! Seedling stage was my problem for the longest when I first attempted to grow few years back. Now that I've discovered these pellets I haven't had a problem yet! (knock on wood) :D
