Hey everybody, In the spirit of gaining more knowledge through others experiences, I was wondering if there were any good nutes/ferts/supplements that go well along side the fox farms trio. I am currently using tiger bloom and this weekend i'm getting some big bloom to add in. I'm just wondering for future grows and such. Also i would love to discuss soil mixes people have had success with. I am currently using ff ocean forest mixed with ff light warrior, but i want to try new things. Any and all comments and experiences are welcome, i'm just a new grower who really wants to learn! Thanks People!

fox farm also makes a trio of soluble powders supplements. they are called cha-ching, beastie bloomz and open sesame. i just received them, so can't comment on how well they work. sorry.

My current grow is the first I've ever used the FF trio. I am also using FF Open Sesame so I'll make sure to comment in my log when the time comes. The Google search function for this site is quite helpful when it comes to 90% of your questions. The other 10% are all the helpful experienced vets who will answer your questions. I have learned a lot about growing this amazing medicine from these forums.:D:hippy:

My soil is called Filthy Rich by Dr. Q. Already has plenty of castings and shit.
I've got the Cha Ching, and will continue to properly use it till it's gone, but won't re-order it again. Be real careful with any of the FF solubles...it's some very potent shit. Be careful when using it in conjunction with your normal nutes.
The plants show flowers eventually, so it's not worth the extra expense in my budget to get the Open Sesame, and I've never used the Beastie Bloomz.
I do use Soil Syrup (humic acid) twice monthly per directions, and Botanicare Sweet on occation. (but I'm not sold on the 'Sweet' stuff)
The Soil Syrup is one I'll always have on hand. With Fox Farms, you'll get minor salt build-up. I correct this condition with scheduled monthly flushes, (veg and flower) folowed immediatelly by a full-strength solution of the humic acid.
Even though Fox Farms Grow Big and Tiger bloom have your micro's, I still use Superthrive in veg. One or two drops per gallon, depending on plant maturity.
Be careful with mixing shit together. It doesn't always work out for the best.

I love the Fox Farm stuff, and agree the powdered solubles don't really seem necessary, and they ARE powerful concentrates ... I pretty much just use the Grow, Tiger Bloom, and Grow Big, and blackstrap molasses ... I don't experience the 'salts buildup' either, probably because I flush and re-new my solution every week-10 days, seems to prevent that from happening ... good growing

Should have specified that I grow in soil, as I have no clue about it's use in hydro.
After a few months of being open, I start to hear the salts conglomerating in the bottoms of the nutes when I shake the bottles, (no build-up in the Grow Big, though) and runoff ph will start to swing. Not wildly, but enough to visually catch your attention.
The monthly mini-flushes at a 1:1 volume of pot per gallons of ph'd water release any salt and nutrient build-up, plus the humic acid is great for the roots. (which coincidentally is to be applied monthly, per instructions)

I want to use a new soil mix next grow. i am thinking about following your flush then humic acid method this grow, it has been a month since i flushed last and i did not feed them anything directly after that first flush. thanks for the reply shake, i'll definately be watching ur grow 4204L. yo reaper are u talking bout hydro, let me know more about that blackstrap molasses. Thanks for all post guys!

The growshop near me carries Grandma Enggy's H2 humic acid https://www.advancednutrients.com/catalog/us/popup_image.php?pID=42 What do u guys think about this? Also i thought of another question, when giving tiger bloom and grow big during flowering, should i give them seperately or or mix them in the same gallon of water? Keep the posts comin guys!

...and also, rusty, what do u mix with ur filthy rich?
10-15% extra perlite (largest chunks I can find) during winter months. Keeps the soil from retaining too much water, otherwise I'd have to change my water/nute schedules.
During the summer months though...I add nothing. (I live in the desert, so retaining water is a bonus) Occationally I'll throw-in some worm castings, (1 tablespoon per 5 gallon pot, mixed-in well at transplant) but it's not a necessary purchase. I just happen to have around ten pounds of the stuff, and am slowly getting rid of it. (the Filthy Rich soil, and the Big Bloom already have castings in it)
Molasses is theoretically a bulking agent, as is Botanicare Sweet. Gives the plant 'usable' sugars, carbon, and various other elements, but you'll want to be careful with overdoing-it. Molasses can adversely affect ph, and can cause you more problems. Using it on stressed plants is not recommended.
Again...I've got it, and occationally use it on healthy underperformers...but am not overly convinced that it's necessary in a healthy garden. Opinions differ on this, so I expect some retaliation, lol.

Regarding humic acid...as long as it's a leonardite extract, almost any brand will do...but I use this brand:
Soil Syrup (http://www.megagro.com/soilsyrup.htm)
Soil Syrup is 12% leonardite, Advanced Nutrients is 7% leonardite.

yea that soil syrup looks good, its only $15 and $5 for shipping and the adv. nutes Grandma Enggys is $30 from the shop so i'll probably go with the soil syrup. Any other experiences with nutrients or soils out there, post them here!!

hey rusty, i was looking at dr. Q Filthy Rich at star nurseries and it is pretty damn inexpensive. Are they just good people or is there a reason the price is so low?

So when i get that big bloom, i was concerned with how to give the tiger bloom and the big bloom. Should i mix them in the same gallon or seperately and also should i give them at the same time or not?(during the same watering)

www.foxfarmfertilizer.com and read the FAQ section. Short answer seems to be yes and yes. I'm still learning too.:hippy:

LOW...? Last year it was on sale for 4.99 a bag. (2 cu. ft.)
I can't say it's religously consistent, but there are two basic pheno's of Filthy Rich...The tiny perlite kind, and the big perlite kind. I think Forrest Gump put it best, when he said..."Life is like a bag of manure...Ya never know which you are going to get, till you poke your finger in." (or something like that)
I don't know though. It's the best I have available, and I've been using it for the past 5 years or so. With Miracle Grow at 8.00 per cubic foot locally, I'll be using Filthy Rich for a while.

thanks 4204L i didnt know there was such great info in the ff FAQ, liquid ferts answered all my questions. yo 101 ur the first person who has said they have had good experiences with the ff soluables, i'll definately look into it. And rusty i guess i'm just used to ocean forest prices and ff products being so damn expensive.
Come in guys post on ur favorite ferts/nutes and soils!!

So i ordered some soil syrup and am about to pick up the ff big bloom. Whenever the soil syrup gets here i'm going to flush the ladies and give them a full dose of it, do u think that sounds about right rusty, i don't wanna shock them too much.

Come on guys, Why no posts? I just got the ff big bloom and went ahead and gave the ladies a watering with 2 tbsp to the gallon. Any comments or suggestions on mixing amounts are more then welcome. I just gave them big bloom and no tiger bloom this time to see how they react, if they react fine i'll feed them next with the 2 tbsp big bloom and a fat 1/2 tsp of tiger bloom mixed in the same gallon of water. what do u guys think about my plan?

Have y checked-out the FF feeding schedule? (the link is in my signature)
Following directions is likely the best course. (I go half-strength on the Big Bloom through the entire grow, though...but my soil composition allows this with no problems)

thanks rusty, i'll follow the schedule and let u guys know how i make out.

If you ph the water after you put the nutrients in the water, you will be able to follow the feeding schedule that Fox Farms recommends using the full lineup of liquid nutients. If you add the soluables only use 1/4 teaspoon per gallon along with the liquid nutes. I've been doing this for the last several grows without having any nute burn or problems caused by overfeeding. The last week to 10 days I stop the nutes and add black strap molasses at a rate of 1 tablespoon per gallon of water. This is what I do and the results I get may vary from what you get depending soil, growing condition and a host of other factors. The bottom line is you will have to experiment by varing the dosages until you get the desired results.

hey thanks a lot dit. i know i have to experiment but i just over worry. yo rusty i got the soil syrup and there are no feed ing instructions on the bottle, only hose end sprayer directions and it says spray every 2 to 4 weeks. how much should i add to a gallon?
Rusty Trichome
04-16-2009, 12:19 AM
I have success using 2 to 4 tsp per gallon, once a month. Lately I've been dividing it into half-strength, twice a month. (easier to remember, lol)
For those still in veg, I go with the lower dose, but once in flower, I go with the higher numbers. No real reason, but it saves 25%, and the ladies seem to appreciate it.

thanks rusty, that sounds about right. i'll be using it very soon!!
