Man Killed by Deputies (http://www.salem-news.com/articles/march072009/pot_shooting_dth_3-7-09.php)
Serving Marijuana-Related Warrant Identified
Tim King Salem-News.com Mar-07-2009

A warrant for pot charges served at 10:30 p.m. on the rural Mulino home of two senior citizens led to the police shooting of one.

(CANBY, Ore.) - Three days have passed since a man was shot to death by deputies in Canby over marijuana related arrest warrants. He has been identified as 68-year old Hubert Henkel.

80-year old Marjorie Frances Crawford was arrested on a warrant for charges she and Mr. Henkel were both wanted for, relating to growing, possessing and providing cannabis to another person.

"A lot of people grow their pot on federal or state land... to avoid the forfeiture crap... Most rig booby traps around their fields to thwart interlopers, cleverly designed pits with sharpened stakes to impale unwanted visitors or shotguns aimed low to blow off legs and other nethermost parts when a trip wire is triggered. If you need help in designing efficient booby traps, give me a call and I'll send you a pamphlet outlining several UL Approved traps that have sucessfully ensnared and routed thousands of marauding narcs and do-gooders."

Once-Secret Nixon Tapes Show Why US Outlawed Pot (http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/12/thread12324.shtml)

Thirty years ago the United States came to a critical juncture in the drug war. A Nixon-appointed presidential commission had recommended that marijuana use not be a criminal offense under state or federal law. But Nixon himself, based on his zealous personal preferences, overruled the commission's research and doomed marijuana to its current illegal status. This newly revealed information comes from declassified tapes of Oval Office conversations from 1971 and 1972, which show Nixon's aggressive anti-drug stance putting him directly at odds against many of his close advisors.

Nixon Tapes Show Roots of Marijuana Prohibition:
Misinformation, Culture Wars and Prejudice

Nixon's private comments about marijuana showed he was the epitome of misinformation and prejudice. He believed marijuana led to hard drugs, despite the evidence to the contrary. He saw marijuana as tied to "radical demonstrators." He believed that "the Jews," especially "Jewish psychiatrists" were behind advocacy for legalization, asking advisor Bob Haldeman, "What the Christ is the matter with the Jews, Bob?" He made a bizarre distinction between marijuana and alcohol, saying people use marijuana "to get high" while "a person drinks to have fun."

Nixon Lie Keeps on Killing (http://endingcannabisprohibition.yuku.com/topic/1523/master/1/)

There is nothing new about these murders. Hubert's body and Marjorie's soul. The "meth" problem will be thrown into the heap as usual, even though many gunuts driving rigs are popping black beauties and turn arounds. Bikers never had the problems the news spouts today. It should with out a doubt sicken the hearts of every red blooded American. But I can show you a large list of victims and it seems the hobgoblins will pass it by the headlines and the gunut dittos, handity o'really faux newts will commend the brave deputies and push for accommodations for saved us from heathen druggie Americans.

Rainbow Farm hasn't been investigated since a week before 911. I'm just saying the 2nd Amendment isn't alone and it won't stop bullets from cops until the people say it can and adhere to all of the Bill of Rights for all of the people. I'm all for a well regulated militia and not a state controlled National Guard sent Internationally to Police Actions where profits are legal after Mission Accomplished removed the "War". Or anti-American American terrorists burning crosses or thumping bibles while keeping their kids from insulin or making them kiss rattlesnakes. Bombing clinics to save the fetus while more are aborted on cotton and cattle fud than Roe v Wade ever could. I have never ask for stupid prohibitions of any kind outside of personal pocket rockets wmd's and nukes.

Free the prostitutes, poker junkies, poppies, buttons, shrooms and stoners and let the gunuts have guns and suds, and the NRA can rot in hell for mandatory minimum sentencing and the Unions siding with pisstasters and Sikorsky dropping agent green on innocent farmers or CAT bulldozing Jewish chicks.

Klogog plastering cardboard food and sugar on kids and Waldomart chinese sweatshops with kids sewing Iraqi crude plastic into mini rw&b symbols rednecks can spasm at the kids they're sending to the dessert to die for Boosh lies stashing cash for Haliburton, Dyncorps and Chevron.

Corporatist Prohibitionists like the ones decaled on the left turn NAScrats pushing the kid safety crap like the DARE Gates propaganda breeding new Ganja worriers and soccer moms and log cabin bonzo fans banning hand guns. Buzzwords set the mood and prejudice. Gangs Guns Marijuana Militia all serve a purpose in dividing the people maintaining dysfunction for profit and taxes.

When the courts get rid of the moneysluts we can think about Justice. Until then the lawyers will play their games and the jury will follow the judges instructions to eliminate any change in the following years prison industry profits.

Gunuts have more of a problem with stoners than visa versa and less Amendments taken away. While many flag jerkers boast of protecting the second, sometimes part of the first while the other half doesn't concern them when its a Rastafarian religion using Ganja Sacramentally. Or Free Speech on TV playing the missing Nixon tapes? That is a joke, many gunuts pray for censorship. And censor content on their forums.

If they post anything about reality outside of their own box. They holler about the 10th Amendment and states rights until it comes to Buyers Clubs and personal use. Libertarians are as myopic as the Walldo Street Banksters excluding environmental liberties, taken with dioxins and pcbs from cotton cropdusting. Not used on hemp. Cutting trees for cellulose is a waste compared to hemp. Same with tensile strength, leaving trees to clean the water and air. Not horowitless Home Despots when their not roll playing as the Keating 5 with John McCain and Kneel Boosh.

Hemp can replace ffertilizers, herbicides and pesticides all sold by suits and ties, and aerate the soil but for one big fat Nexxon LIE. Gunuts probably voted for the bastard and sat on the gung ho side of the Nam Scam. Pushing what they're told to make a buck the same as the loggers the same as the oil riggers the same as the truckers, coal miners, steel workers and strip miners.

The War Brokers , white powder "western" disease treaters and the crud asphalt road paver half assing the job with it going into the streams leaving potholes to fill with the same damn thing. Self sustaining communities would lessen the road use, many alternatives the oil boys don't want and the gunuts fighting the only dissidents.

All of the products made by these "workers" can be made with hemp. Jobs won't change making the stuff but these are Libertarian no no's to discuss. Isolationists like Dobbs and Hearst spewing venom on the open wounded. Until the Harry Browne RIP, stock brokers see the damage they cause selling these commodities, personal Liberty will be taken and treated by the same chemical companies selling Pharmaceuticals. We have to separate the thistle from the vine.

Before fossil fools we had organics. Before tree paper we had hemp. Before cotton we had canvas and we could again if the blue collar gunuts and donuts thought less about the crude oil plastic red white and blue banner wrapped around them and more about the Constitution they're helping burn voting in these GOPerverts, Demonizers and Tunnel Vision Eurocrats trying to bring us back to King George.

Life is a pre-requisite of Liberty, Liberty, is a pre-requisite of any chance to pursue Happiness. Then many forget about the pre-requisite of Life, Human Rights, including shelter, food, clothing and health care. All provided by Ganja and Hemp, Outlawed so it wouldn't be.

Just the way its supposed to be for those not living on a paycheck. A trillion spent arresting Ganja users since 1937 is a trillion earned and much of it taxed. We pay it, someone gets it and they don't really want gunuts and stoners agreeing.

But the "protectors" are a product of all of our elected representatives and indoctrinator's pushing programmed news and school books. I may not respect them for their blind obedience and violent protocol but I can't blame them for our policy. Ours do to the fence sitters and those handing their rights and privileges to the status weird Industrialist. Corporatists running this fucking Ganjawar. Take that fire ya got and stick it under the butts of Oregonians. Have another weekend Barter Fair!

Coward or martyr...? (http://www.salem-news.com/articles/march072009/pot_shooting_dth_3-7-09.php)

"Aware of these existing arrest warrants -- On March 4th, at 10:30 p.m., two uniformed Clackamas County Sheriff's Office Patrol Deputies responded to this residence located at 13262 S. Macksburg Road, to arrest the two known occupants identified as Marjorie Crawford and Hubert Henkel."

"As a result of this arrest effort, the two Sheriff's deputies identified themselves and were confronted at the front door by Hubert Henkel; who was discovered to be armed with a firearm, non-compliant and pointing his firearm in a threatening fashion directly at each of the two Deputies."

Strovink says the deputies were presented with an "armed and threatening encounter". Mr. Henkel was fatally shot and died at the scene.

The extents you go, to "prove" your points...seems a tad tangental to the actual situations. In virtually every paragraph, of every post, you tell us how all peoples in a given demographic are either way or another. You have got to be the most biggoted member I've ever read in these forums, yet you take pride in the ignorance. Remarkable.

This Oregon moron missed his court date, resulting in the warrant. Sheriff's went to the home to serve the warrant, and the idiot answers the door with a firearm. Twasn't cannabis that got him dead...twas his suicide-by-cop that leaves his wife to cary the burden. What...was he in hopes they'd kill his unarmed wife in the exchange...?

He isn't a martyr...he's a coward.

To the mods...is there a site policy against discussing meds other than cannabis, or not? If there is...why allow this to continue unabated, and why is there even a forum to discuss "meaningful drug policy reforms"? If not, then why do the posting rules state otherwise?

Tim any more details on the story , such as how far away were the officers when they shot ? How many times was Mr Henkel shot , did both officers shoot, did Henkel fire back ? How were the officers dressed ? Any statement from the 80 yr old women ? Has she gotten legal representation ? Thanks

those poor people were killed for growing a plant for someone else. think about it. the war on drugs is an out of control war that should not even exist. it's a health issue, not a criminal issue.
Nick March 10, 2009 1:38 pm (Pacific time)

You know who else shows up on elderly peoples door steps at night with guns? Home invaders. Let that be a lesson to you old SOB's. If it's night time and you get a knock at the door just risk the beating and robbery. Otherwise, the police might murder you.
Wolfy March 9, 2009 10:40 pm (Pacific time)

This is another example of the failure of the war on drugs. It is interesting that there are pro drug warriors who conclude that the officers "were just doing their jobs."
Not all laws are just. The people who defended the right of people to own slaves used the same exact excuse: The laws allow slavery so officials are just doing their jobs when they return escaped slaves to their owners. The law enforcement system is intellectually and morally bankrupt (and so are the supporters of these officers).
Fidelity March 9, 2009 4:07 pm (Pacific time)

Mr. King, you end the article with a precarious line. You should expand upon it, knowing as a Vet, like myself, the possible medicinal uses of marijuana for people with PTSD. Speak out, you already serve your country in so many ways, who could criticize you? What ever your feelings are on the subject, now is a great time for a dialog. Oregon has a Medical Marijuana Program, at their age, I'm sure they would have qualified for a card if only they would have pursued one. If our police were reasonable, this would have ended differently. This is just another causality of the War On Drugs, a war that costs us billions of dollars, erodes our liberties under the guise of protecting "the greater good", and allow police to kill needlessly and be justified. Prohibition must end for us to live in a society where we can trust the police.
Anonymous March 9, 2009 9:43 am (Pacific time)

What is this world coming to? People are shot by police for growing a plant that God placed on this earth. The police have to answer on this one and not slap the hands of the killer.
Anonymous March 9, 2009 9:41 am (Pacific time)

This is a sickening story and I soncerely hope the cops are taken to task. They chose to execute the plan this way and in turn executed an Oregonian.

Outrageous and continuing war on some drugs. Bad timing, bad execution(no pun intended) and a bad result. Clackamas needs a recall of a bad sheriff's dept.

Mel B. March 8, 2009 10:17 pm (Pacific time)

What I want to know is if these two had the opportunity to back up and call for more deputies. Funny how in Marion County they often solve these things without a dead body where in Clackamas and Yamhill there is more of a shoot and kill policy. There is blood on the hands of this agency and it is hard to think that they won't have the shooting deemed 'justified' when in reality, it never should have happened.
Jeff March 8, 2009 9:54 pm (Pacific time)

I feel much safer knowing that these elderly farmers are no longer terrorizing their community by growing plants. What kind of a country would we live in if we didn't arrest an 80 year old woman for growing plants after having killed her husband in a violent confrontation instigated by the state? Sure, we could just leave senior citizen farmers alone and let them grow plants if they want to. Maybe that way people wouldn't have to buy marijuana supplied by violent mexican drug cartels. No, scratch that. Killing seniors and letting our drug war destabilize Mexico makes infinitely more sense.
gail March 8, 2009 8:24 pm (Pacific time)

were either of the cops involved suffering from post Iraq brutality syndrome. My theory is that the more vets we have returning from a lawless war zone, the more we will see them entering the police force and the more we will see of this type of thing. Our poor GI's are not all brutal murderers but they have lived under the auspices of a government which has allowed war crimes as standard operating procedure.
RP March 8, 2009 7:01 pm (Pacific time)

These were two deputies doing their job. They went to a house and announced themselves as police officers. They were confronted by a man waiving a gun at them. What would you like them to do? Mabey they could wait and see if he would shoot them before returning fire. Its amazing how people sit in their cozy little houses and monday morning quarterback people who put themselves in harms way every day for others.

Tim King: Bad call RP. You are obviously of the persuasion that if a cop did it, it must be OK. You aren't fooling anyone around here. I was careful in the article to present it in a fair way. I have a lot of respect for the deputies in Clackamas. That isn't the point. You, and anyone else taking this POV, will fail to address why it is OK to go banging on elderly people's front doors at 10:30 p.m. instead of coming around during at least daylight hours; even early morning. Old people can't always see as well as young people. Besides, how many crooks claim to be police while they get ready to invade a home? I'd like to see the stats. Oh wait, everything that happened is OK because they were marijuana users, is that it? Nice that you are able to skim over a loss of life so easily, I can't. Getting a big war going here over an article will not help anyone.

Sounds as if Mr Henkel was coming to see who was coming so late and had a gun with him for protection , and was shot . Tim how many times was Mr Henkel shot and was it from both officers , did he fire back ? I think this will be a major lawsuit . Did they want to serve the warrant before this poor couple died of old age and illness ? Another causality in the foolish pot wars .

Tim King: Daniel, I will be learning more Monday morning, I understand how this leaves people with an unsettling feeling. Thanks for writing.

true, at any first glance a man holding a weapon could be a coward

at any second glance a man holding a weapon whilst two guns are trained on him is anything but cowardly.. unless you consider no fear of death to be something other than brave heh..

The trouble with rustbucket cowards giving up their rights appeasing the piggies.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

as I read I become more disgusted. Marjorie is (or recently was) a volunteer with Foster Grandparents and has 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. In one of the articles a neighbor described Hubert as "the hardest working man I know." Not only do mainstream, middle class folks smoke pot, they can now get shot for it. That is not exactly my preferred version of equal opportunity...

I'm just sick that someone else has died because of cannabis prohibition. The prohibition of the non lethal plant causes deaths... many of them. It's not worth it and it's wrong. Why can't the prohibitionists see that?

more (still unverified, but I trust my source) on the shooting. Police fired at least 13 shots. 80 year old Marjorie Crawford's "unrelated medical problem" was from a tear gas canister through her bedroom window. I will update as I get confirmation of these as yet unkowns.

Thanks Allan I've been thinking about it a while. The first Fox boards, the Conservative something forums and the Freepers before I was banned all had gunutz. One track minds and couldn't see the relation to controlled substances. I tried to warn them the Pot laws came out of the Tommy Gun laws and they could reverse it anytime.
I was raised a hunter in western Pa. Lots of Pittsburgh cops taught me my first environmentalism, cleaning the area and leaving the woods as clean as I found them etc.

When they would cut loose on those hunting trips I don't think I ever laughed so hard in my life. Cops with notches on their belts and scars from getting knifed and telling jokes like a pro comedian. I was about 14 and only started finding my way. I remember we had a hunting bus decked out with bunk beds and fridge the same time Keasey and the Pranksters were truckin around the country. There was a bus but I was told to stay in our bus while the grown ups talked to these "hippies". When I met Keasey I forgot to ask him. Can't remember if it was the Furthur bus, around 1966. Tom Wolfe electric kool aid acid test, book had a chapter where Keasey went to NY to meet Leary and it would have passed through this town on the interstate, but I don't know.

So I'm no stranger to guns and I'm not afraid of them. I don't agree with banning them but I always tried to tell these forum freepers that the 2nd amendment couldn't stop a bullet and just because you have the right to bare arms doesn't mean a cop with a warrant is going to listen. Case in point. The Ganja law is a lie and should be held responsible and all the members pushing it should be caged. But, a little common sense may have been the smarter move in this case.

Wielding a shotgun, right or wrong will always get you shot. Tom and Rollie found out the hard way. If it ain't your last stand then put the gun down and fire up a doobie. Might as well go to the pokey stoned than the morgue.

This all happened about 30 miles from where I live. Canby has a huge meth problem, but apparently that wasn't the issue here. Thankfully, on Sunday, the Oregon Attorney General (within the same county that this incident happened) said at a town hall meeting that he's very interested in reforming the criminal justice system, even if that means legalizing marijuana.

DdC, look at Google Map where these people live. Owning a firearm in that part of Oregon is almost a requirement for safe living and pest control. It's my understanding that the SWAT team took 45 minutes to get there, imagine if there was a home invasion, the owner of the house would have to depend on their firearms for their life. Read the Cato Institute report "Overkill", home invasions happen more frequently then most people would like think, sometimes by people pretending to be police officers. If someone was banging on my door at 10:30 at night, I'd have my AR-15, police uniform or not, if someone kicks through my door I'm shooting first, asking questions later. The police could arrest people at the grocery store, or pull them over on the side of the road, or several other ways besides kicking in the door. It's the police's fault for being so reckless, not the fault of someone trying to defend their home.
Fidelity â?˘ 3/9/09; 5:44:22 PM #

allan â?˘ 3/9/09; 7:22:06 PM #

Seems you aren't here to advocate for anything but the destruction of everything you've been foolishly taught to hate. Pitiful such drive and persistance is accompanied by neurosis and childishness.

Homeland Security Hearings on the Drug War (http://blogs.salon.com/0002762/2009/03/07.html#a3342)
DWR: Pete Guither Saturday, March 7, 2009

The Senate Committee on Homeland Security is planning hearings on southern border violence (http://hsgac.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=PressReleases.Detail&Affiliation=C&PressRelease_id=537b4bca-c3dc-4152-84bc-0f632f4dd42f&Month=2&Year=2009) (ie, the drug war).

And now there are some House Hearings as well that may come up in the next week as well. Commenter Pat Rogers is all over this (http://drugwartreason.blogspot.com/2009/03/beating-crescendo-of-drug-war-drums-in.html) on his blog, along with providing lists of House Committee Members (http://mysite.verizon.net/aahpat/aandc/house_homeland.htm) and Senate Homeland Security Committee members (http://mysite.verizon.net/aahpat/aandc/senate_hs_contact.htm).

I've got to say that at first glance, the makeup of these Homeland Security Committees is pretty horrible. Chairman Lieberman? Pryor, Coburn, McCain, Burris? And Souder in the House? These are names unlikely to demonstrate even a glimmer of intelligence regarding the drug war.

"Drop the Ice Breakers and step away from the car."

It would've been mildly amusing had it had been satire. After searching the story to see if it was intended to be a humor piece, "
Mint or Drug: Is Hershey's Cracked?" by Jill Porter, Philadelphia Daily News, one is overcome by a sadden resignation.

Have drug alarmists no shame? This is unintended humor from a usual source. They've now settled their focus on a familiar group of law-breakers: Hershey's. The offending candy? Ice Breakers that are so similar to crack cocaine in appearance that--what?

Drug War Porn (http://blogs.salon.com/0002762/2009/03/07.html#a3341)

I've always thought of Al Roker's DEA (http://www.spike.com/show/26319) as a form of drug war pornography.

But apparently, it's just soft-core porn compared to Chris Ryan's Elite Police (http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/news/207208/SAS-hero-Chris-Ryan-sees-how-worlds-toughest-law-men-fight-UKs-drug-war.html) (DVD out on Monday)

And they're about "knock down the door" of a cocaine-making lab . . . big time.

KABOOM! A searing blast of heat scorches Chris's cheeks as the hut VAPORISES before his eyes, sending a 3,000ft plume of smoke into the air thanks to plastic explosives planted by the Junglas--Colombia's frontline cops in the war against drugs.

"We left the coke lab a blast site of scorched metal stinking of napalm," says Bravo Two Zero hero Chris who worked with the squad for his dramatic TV series, Elite Police, about the South American cocaine trail. "Then we needed to get out fast."

This is drug war action so intense, it even spontaneously breaks out into CAPITALS!

But of course, this isn't about making money. It's got a more important message:

"There was a story where 14 gangsters' bodies turned up without heads. Their gang then chopped off the rival gang's heads a week later. There's no end to what they will do."

Now Chris hopes his programme will make cocaine users in the UK sit up and take notice. "Despite cocaine being so addictive, some Brits see it as relatively harmless," says Chris.

"But as I discovered, the facts behind it are horrifying. And the misery it causes on its way to our streets is shocking."

She had taken it upon herself to start a farm with 100 widows - women who lost their husbands and children to Colombia's war and were fighting against poverty. Together they had purchased this small farm and worked it on the weekends to make ends meet. Now - after a plane sprayed chemicals over their farm - all was lost.

To bureaucrats in Washington, Teresa and her friends are simply additional collateral damage at ground zero of Washington's drug war in South America.

"The Limits of the Criminal Sanction"
by Herbert Packer, 1968

For over fifty years the United States has been committed to a policy of suppressing the "abuse" of narcotic and other "dangerous" drugs. The primary instrument in carrying out this policy has been the criminal sanction. The results of this reliance on the criminal sanction have included the following:

(1) Several hundred thousand people, the overwhelming majority of whom have been primarily users rather than traffickers, have been subjected to severe criminal punishment.

(2) An immensely profitable illegal traffic in narcotic and other forbidden drugs has developed.

(3) This illegal traffic has contributed significantly to the growth and
prosperity of organized criminal groups.

(4) A substantial number of all acquisitive crimes - burglary, robbery, auto theft, other forms of larceny - have been committed by drug
users in order to get the wherewithal to pay the artificially high prices charged for drugs on the illegal market.

(5) Billions of dollars and a significant proportion of total law enforcement resources have been expended in all stages of the criminal process.

(6) A disturbingly large number of undesirable police practices - unconstitutional searches and seizures, entrapment, electronic surveillance have become habitual because of the great difficulty that attends the detection of narcotics offenses.

(7) The burden of enforcement has fallen primarily on the urban poor, especially Negroes and Mexican-Americans.

(8) Research on the causes, effects, and cures of drug use has been stultified.

(9) The medical profession has been intimidated into neglecting its accustomed role of relieving this form of human misery.

(10) A large and well-entrenched enforcement bureaucracy has developed a vested interest in the status quo, and has effectively thwarted all but the most marginal reforms.

(11) Legislative invocations of the criminal sanction have automatically and unthinkingly been extended from narcotics to marijuana to the flood of new mind-altering drugs that have appeared in recent years, thereby compounding the preexisting problem. A clearer case of misapplication of the criminal sanction would be difficult to imagine.

New Federal Report on Marijuana Use is Misleading, Groups Say

Is this a reaction to the beginning of the end of marijuana prohibition?

(SALEM, Ore.) - A new federal government report on the ill effects of marijuana on teens may be a last ditch effort to demonize the medical weed before it sees its own day of emancipation. As it stands, even the most hardcore marijuana legalization advocates do not support children using anything that causes intoxication.

This new report uses scare tactics and seems to regard medical facts as a meaningless burden, and they are enlisting the help of celebrities with big money and big media ties to drive their message home.

Lies are all You Need

Lies, Lies, Lies, Lies, Lies, Lies, Lies, Lies, Lies.

There's nothing you can do that can be done.
Nothing you can say that can't be spun.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game
It's easy.

There's nothing you can grow that can't be made.
No one you can save that can't be caged.
Nothing you can do but you can learn to be fools.
It's easy.

All you need are Lies, all you need are Lies,
All you need are Lies, Lies, Lies are all you need.

There's nothing you can know that isn't known.
Nothing you can see that isn't shown.
Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're told to be.
It's easy.

All you need are Lies, Lies, Lies are all you need.
All you need are Lies (all together now)
All you need are Lies (everybody)
All you need are Lies, Lies, Lies are all you need.

Medical Marijuana Group Plans Ad Campaign

medical Minnesota -- A group advocating a medical marijuana bill in Minnesota said Tuesday that it will run ads to counter what it says are false law-enforcement arguments against the measure.

The group, the Marijuana Policy Project, said three ads will be posted on the Internet and a fourth will run on television statewide. They are designed to allay fears that medical marijuana increases youth access to marijuana, that there is no proven medical value to using medical marijuana, and that there is no support in the medical community for medical marijuana.

Over 130 years of being wrong
DWR: Thursday, April 24, 2008
You may have thought the Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) was merely a sadly delusional chapter in our nation's history. And yet, every now and then I see a letter to the editor in the local paper signed by someone who calls herself head of the local WCTU chapter.

What I didn't realize (until I read Allen St. Pierre's post today) was that they also take a position on marijuana.

At their marijuana 'facts' page you can learn a number of interesting things, including: Drug WarRant (http://blogs.salon.com/0002762/2008/04/24.html#a2812)

Womanâ??s Christian Vengeance Union

* long-term marijuana users experience withdrawal symptoms such as stomach pain, irritability, and aggression. [...] I was going to quit, but after hearing that... not now.

* Sudden heart attacks have been linked to pot smoking [...] sausage linked.

* Loss of fertility in both males and females may occur. 6 billion people.
You sure it's not your wonderful sex abstenance program working?

Marijuana can disrupt testes and uterine function.
Seems to be functioning to me. Maybe you're doing it wrong.

In males testosterone levels and sperm counts can decrease and abnormal sperm form.
also decreasing is violent crimes, rape and say what? Ab-normal, like Ab-stenance? Large numbers of abnormal sperm are forming into groups of ill-mannered disodents.

Menstrual periods have ceased in females who use pot regularly. [...]
In females only you say, while only males sperm counts can decrease. By gholly there's a clue... Smoking pot makes genders different.

* fathers who smoked pot might increase the chances of their babies dying from SIDS. [...]
Ref.Dragnet, 1972, Not mothers smoking pot? It is the WCTU. Ab-normal sperm forms no doubt. 5000 years of using Ganja... No SIDS. 12 years Bush Rayguns... AIDs and SIDs and Gays. One year after Nixon took office there were 12 million tokers. Conservatives were breeding them in what are known as "think tanks". Outside of these tanks Conservative Christian women are prohibited from thinking, and what is learned in thinktanks stays in thinktanks for the message it might send the kids... and the general population frowns on multi billion dollar scams like the drug war. Must keep em smiling...

* Marijuana use is a major risk factor in the development of full-blown AIDS in HIV-positive persons. HIV marijuana smokers progress to full-blown AIDS twice as fast as non-smokers. [...]
and they always said we were antimotivational...

* Chronic use results in adults being four times more likely to be depressed later in life and to have suicidal thoughts. [...]
Depressed at getting old? Hum, another clue blue. Maybe slightly miffed at the higher prices caused by dumbass prohibitionist killers. Not like the younger daze of chronic from returning vets or at antiwar rallies. As we still do on Holidaze. Nothing like a good christian flag waving war for obtaining exotic chronic.

* In a 1999 report of 664 drug-related deaths, 187 of them resulted from marijuana use alone. [...]
That means 497 out of 664 died from something else, we must ban something else, we must, we just must!

* A scientific study of airplane pilots showed their inability to properly land a plane using a flight simulator even 24 hours after smoking one joint. [...]
* A scientific study of Booze Hangovers showed they are the leading cause of pilots toking.
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt. And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad, So I had one more for dessert. Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes, And found my cleanest dirty shirt. An' I shaved my face and combed my hair, An' stumbled down the stairs to meet the day... Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.

* As of January, 2001, the Mississippi Research Center for the National Institute on Drug Abuse had on record more than 15,000 studies on cannabis. None of them show the raw material marijuana to be safe or effective for medical use. [...]
A very good reason for calling it NIDB instead of IOM. 150,000,000 tokers disagree.

* Many of the state-based referendums on medical marijuana have been supported and funded by individuals and organizations who favor decriminalization and legalization and who would profit from producing and selling marijuana.
Secrets out now, might as well quit and go get drunk. Although, now under prohibition, these "individuals and organizations"make 10 times more money producing and selling Ganja. Between the Drugczar advertizing BC bud and the WCTU cheerleaders inticing young people to try a new adventure. One might think they profit on the Ganjawar.
Hey, another clue...

One gardener's encounter with the war on drugs

It's worth noting that during the period of anti-alcohol hysteria that led to Prohibition, certain forms of opium were as legal and almost as widely available in this country as alcohol is today. It is said that members of the Women's Christian Temperance Union would relax at the end of a day spent crusading against alcohol with their cherished "women's tonics," preparations whose active ingredient was laudanumâ??opium. Such was the order of things less than a century ago.

Until this century hard cider was probably the most popular intoxicantâ??drug, if you willâ??in this country. It shouldn't surprise us that one of the symbols of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was an ax; prohibitionists like Carry Nation used to call for the chopping down of apple trees just like the one in my garden, plants that in their eyes held some of the same menace that a marijuana plant, or a poppy flower, holds...

The Hype: Brain Damage & Dead Monkeys

In 1974, California Governor Ronald Reagan was asked about decriminalizing marijuana.

After producing the Heath/Tulane University study, the so-called "Great Communicator" proclaimed, "The most reliable scientific sources say permanent brain damage is one of the inevitable results of the use of marijuana." (L.A. Times)

Reports of the study have also been distributed by the hierarchy of drug rehabilitation professionals as part of their rationalization for wanting to get kids off pot, based on supposed scientific studies. It is used to terrorize parent groups, church organizations, etc., who redistribute it still further.

Heath killed the half-dead monkeys, opened their brains, counted the dead brain cells, and then took control monkeys, who hadn't smoked marijuana, killed them too, and counted their brain cells. The pot smoking monkeys had enormous amounts of dead brain cells as compared to the "straight" monkeys.

The reporters made their way through the dim lights and small huts of Virginia City's Chinatown... The Comstock journalists produced racist and inaccurate news coverage that relied on uninformed sources (law enforcement instead of physicians), inflamed the people of the town, and produced the nation's first anti-drug law, an ordinance banning opium smoking within Virginia City, enacted on Sept. 12, 1876. The local politicians, discovering that fear of drugs and minorities sold, were just as irresponsible, blaming everything from poor sanitation to child molestation on Chinese drug "fiends." When the local prohibition ordinance failed, they pushed for a statewide law which failed (and, of course, would be followed by national laws that failed).

The other two stories were untraceable and no account of them ever appeared in print where the crimes allegedly occurred.

In other words, Bennett's "most successful public policy efforts of the latter half of the 20th century" is an illusion. It's reasonable to conclude that more people were using drugs "during the most intense period of antidrug efforts" than admitted it. And just in case Bennett can't tell the difference, that's not success -- that's denial.

Misleading numbers are the stock and trade of drug warriors, it seems. Arguing against medical marijuana in his April 2 column, for instance, Don Feder rattles off an alarming statistic: "According to the Drug Abuse Warning Network," says Feder, "marijuana use accounted for 87,150 emergency-room admissions in 1999, up 455 percent from a decade earlier."

First off, this is a red herring, since the discussion is not about all-purpose marijuana use, but medical. The DAWN data are not controlled for why an emergency-room patient may have been using marijuana; it only records the presence of the drug in his system.

the number of marijuana related emergencies

This is an untruth propagated by the drug czarâ??s minions. The Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) collects its data on â??marijuana related emergenciesâ?? by noting every single time someone tells their doctor that they use marijuana. So if I were to accidentally break my leg and go to the ER, and my doctor asked if I use any drugs and I say I occasionally smoke marijuana (as I should, as we should all be honest with our physicians), then this would be a â??marijuana related emergency,â?? even if I hadnâ??t smoked in weeks.

In the rush to cure all the ills to which humans are heir, liberty is too often an innocent bystander -- and an accidental casualty. --Barry Goldwater, 1964

The Supreme Court handed in their black robes for brown shirts yesterday, as that formerly august body decided 8-0 against medical marijuana, ruling that federal law trumps state initiatives to legalize the substance for treatment of illnesses such as AIDS, cancer, multiple sclerosis and glaucoma.

Apparently, Clarence Thomas and Co. forgot a slightly more important statute than the Controlled Substance Act -- the Constitution of the United States! Remember that one? I think it's still mentioned in high-school civics classes.

Grab a copy if you have one handy and open that grand, national operating manual to Article 1, Section 8. This section lays out in very clear terms the enumerated powers of Congress -- what our representatives are permitted to do. (Pay attention, Clarence.)

There are not many items listed, and you'll probably notice the striking absence of anything about regulating marijuana -- or any drugs for that matter. It's not in there. Establishing postal roads, declaring war, coining money -- that much is enumerated, but not a word about dope.

Inventor of yellow Journalism. Supposedly very ruthless to his competition and in his personal relationships. He was the basis for the movie Citizen Kane and also responsible for the prohibition on marijuana of the 1930's. The Marijuana Stamp Tax Act effectively outlawed the sale of marijuana. Hearst apparently made a fortune from the criminalization of marijuana due to the money he had invested in competing industries. Right before Hearst began his war against marijuana with newspaper headlines in the many dailies that he owned, Popular Science announced the invention of a hemp processing machine that they predictied could effectively make hemp the single most useful processing material.

One of the great breakthoughs in propaganda. The ability to prove a point just by over exposing it to the masses. If they see it enough they'll believe it. Planting fear and then playing the fear into action. Using different sources to corrodinate the effort to make it seem as if the whole world thinks this way. Pioneered by William Randolph Hearst in his reefer madness style campaign of the 1930's.

The war on drugs has always served a political agenda. During the Red Scare in the early 1950s, Sen. Joseph McCarthy blamed Red China for peddling heroin to weaken the moral fiber of the United States and the Free World.

Ironically, it appears that McCarthy himself developed a nasty little addiction to morphine while leading the anticommunist crusade. But his dope wasn't coming from Maoist China. According to Ladies Home Journal, that bastion of left-wing political correctness, McCarthy was getting his daily morphine script from Harry Anslinger, longtime head of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Narcotics.

The next big scandal in sports comes from a statement made on radio by Dallas Mavericks forward Josh Howard. Howard explains:

"What I was stating was just [in response to] a random question he asked me about the marijuana use. I just let him know that most of the players in the league use marijuana and I have and do partake in smoking weed in the offseason sometimes and that's my personal choice and my personal opinion. But I don't think that's stopping me from doing my job."

He's not using marijuana during the season, and he hasn't flunked any drug tests.

So now the league and the press are scrambling to find how you punish someone for... um... telling the truth.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said before Friday's game against the Hornets that any punishment from the club will be meted out "internally."

"We won't make it public," Cuban said. "But we'll deal with it.

"We'll do what we need to do and deal with it internally and then that's it."

What really bugs them is that he is matter-of-fact and unrepentant about it.

Before the Gatewood Galbraith for Governor Campaign in 1991, few Kentuckians knew that the plant that the federal government had demonized for over 50 years as "Marijuana - Assassin of Youth," was, in fact, Cannabis Hemp, the most traded commodity in the world until the mid-1800s, and our state's number one crop, industry, and most important source of revenue, for over 150 years.

Today, thanks to the efforts of pioneer hemp researchers and public advocates such as Galbraith, Jack Fraizer, Jack Herer, Chris Conrad, Ed Rosenthal, Don Wirtshafter and others, the federal government's unjustifiable suppression of our state's right to develop our most valuable and versatile natural resource, is facing increasing opposition from an informed public.

The rest of the story: 'Kill the Messenger' does what the U.S. press wouldn't doâ??ask hard questions about the campaign against Gary Webb. The Mercury News investigative journalist paid a personal price for his controversial exposĂ© of CIA ties to the crack cocaine explosion. Two years after his suicide, the debate over his landmark investigation continues.

I care less about this place, just another stop on the paper route. I care even less than I do about the maggots living here. This is but one in a million places to post.
As I have been pointing-out all along...you are nothing grander than an undereducated paperboy delivering the Daily Anarchist, straight from the press. No original words...no original thoughts...no original links...all a plagueristic attempt to expose yourself as controllable. Same bullshit with every post. Same old links, same twisting of facts to suit your theories, same verbal assaults. What...were you promised that if you ever get good at this trolling stuff, that you can expect to get handed a job at the Huffington Post? As it's obvious you aren't very good at this...you should really stick with stuff you know, like...umm...well, I'm sure that maybe someday you'll be good at something.

Another major difference between me and you...I work within the law...you worm your way around it.
Wasn't going to report this post, but changed my mind. Your behaviour is unacceptable, your insights, laughable and your interest in supporting medical cannabis seems to take back-seat to your anti-everybody political views, your racist and homophobic posts, and generally because you disrespect this site and it's members. We have a shitload of good people in here, so I gurantee you...we won't miss yet another paperboy that misses the porch every morning thinking of new ways to hate.

p.s. - the bad rep you gave me took 4 points from my 3300 or so, and added some color to my otherwise drab control panel. Am I supposed to be angry, or say ouch...? Pathetic.

Jeezus H. Rusty! Good riddance glad to see the trash has been taken out to the compost pile. Holy fuck tards! I betcha he gets that Huffington Post job!
Really though, it's hardly worth the effort you know. That guy is obviously a "true believer" and nothing, no matter how rational will ever change that. Thank you for not letting this ass get you into a position where you would have gotten banned. I just cannot stand people like that. I would rep you but I still have to spread some around. From now on, if we get anymore of these trolls, we should just hi-jack the threads and make them all about something completely off topic until they get the point. How bout it?

Altho I like the idea, doubtful thread hijacking is an effective method of intelligent discourse, and I believe is frowned upon, lol.

I'd rather confront them with their own inaccuracies. Confuses the shit out of some of 'em. Anyway, someone needs to cary the torch of conservatism, while battling the evil forces of liberal fascism. (to "America the Beautiful")

Regardless...my only reason for participating in posts like this, is to show others that conservatives and christians are not ignorant, not bent on restricting personal freedoms, not out to shaft the world, and some of us are not going to stand for anyone painting the conservative/spiritual/religious peoples of the world in their own dark shade of black. They paint everyone into a neat little isolated corner...but when you look closely, it's them stepping in the paint.

A small portion of the links he so generously copied and pasted were valid, once upon a time. Are there going to be isolated abuses...? Of course. Just like this now-banned individual. He wanted his point made, but half way through he'd forget the point and take weird hateful tangents, betraying his claims of tolerance and progressiveness.
I have nothing against any dissenting viewpoint, but like it says in my signature...If you are comfortable with your facts, blah, blah, blah... (Neil Cavuto - Fox News)

Kinda strange, this sudden implosion. IDK... Maybe he was running out of hate.

I believe that very soon, in this current economy and state of the Union, a few of the states will legalize and tax cannabis, and either there will be a federal backlash, and a subsequent tightening of the federal legal belt, or the rest of the states will follow like lemmings...reviweing inmate cases, dropping simple 'sales' and 'possesion' charges, but since the feds control border access, importing will likely remain a felony. Either way...likely to be heard by the Supremes?

With regards to old cannatales infecting modern-day politics, (Nixon lie killing...blah, blah...) it was ingrained into mainstreem society for almost a hundred years. Has been a slow process, and many in political leadership since the turn of the century, (or so) have used the misinformation (Reefer Madness and W.R. Hurst, for instance) to their benefit, furthering the folklore and lies.

Times change, as do the circumstances and issues. With younger candidates elected nationwide, more attention is now on cannabis, and old myths are just that...old myths. And doubtful coming into these forums just to shit on our government, our religion, or our values will speed the process. Matter of fact...some of us resent half-truths and outright lies, and are willing to defend the moral issues of religion, personal responsibility and values.

LOL, yeah you are right, I am just exhausted. Working to hard in the grow room I guess. But, intelligent discourse would require it to go both ways not one way! So while you are making the best of it, the other side in this instance was far from it. But I get your point, and you are of course right. Guess I was just being a little lazy.

You are preaching to the choir brotha! It just pissed me off to read through this crapola I guess and see you all alone out here. Glad you were here to hold it down, I don't know why I wasn't. :(
So judging from this poster, is it safe to say 45 years from now there will still be flamers bashing Bush for all the evils of the world? Good lord! LOL
