Dearest Canncom family-

I haven't been on much lately as maybe you've noticed. I recently started a new full time job with lots of overtime, and no longer have either time or internet access at work or home to be on as much as I would like to be.

I'm working in a field I love, sustainably-produced food, but in these hard economic times it is becoming apparent to what extent we really do consider it a luxury to buy food that was grown in an ecologically-responsible manner, and the people still left at the facility are running ragged and short-handed, without the capital to upgrade systems for efficiency. We just keep fixing things as they break- elbow grease is the thing we need the most of. It's a challenge that I feel up to, but I also feel at the end of every day as if I've been beaten about the arms and shoulders with a baseball bat; sore, bruised, filthy, and exhausted. I do nothing but work and sleep, and spend my few days off dealing with the amount of manure-caked laundry that builds up fast in this line of work. My garden is on a back burner, but stabilized so I don't lose genetics- I'm just not really doing much with them at the moment. It's a lovely collection of ornamental houseplants until I get a moment to figure out where to go next.

I can't thank everyone here enough for all your support over the years, and the camaraderie that we got going here. I've been awed by your gardens and personal resilience through adversity- illness, natural disaster, family tragedy, and legal problems- you have all inspired me to be a better and more giving person. I feel that it is time to focus that locally. With so few hours in the week, I owe it to my friends and family to make time for them, and try to make a positive impact in my hometown.

I'm still going to try to come back and check in whenever I can, but it's not going to be often. I miss you guys but it is time for this rolling stone to roll along to the next project. Keep fighting the good fight. I promise I will be too.

Good luck with the new project, Stinky! I'm glad you got a job doing something you already know you love to do. Having a job that sucks up too much of your time is a lot easier to handle if you like the work and believe in its importance. Sounds like you like it, and it is definitely important.

We are all going to miss you around here. You did a GREAT job as a moderator, keeping a lid on the BS. And at the same time you also contributed even more as a fellow member, giving good advice on growing and on a lot of topics that are even more important than growing, sharing your intelligent thoughts and ideas, making good jokes, being a good friend. I miss you guys every day. Work is keeping me busier than I wanted it to, but I think it's healthy in the long run. I'm trying to bring some long-standing dreams to fruition, and spend as much time as I have with the local med growers. I feel like this is a very temporary time in my life. I am learning so much, and feeling so grounded. Farming suits me far better than research. My true love is making things grow. It's hard, and the money is really minimal, but in the big scheme of things, grad school is so much more expensive! Hahaha! I have a couple of really fascinating co-workers and the self-produced medicine scene surrounding a sustainable ag farm is really impressive!
I'm feeling terribly guilty for not maintaining as frequent correspondence with you guys as I'd like to, but my neighbors put a lock on their wireless so it's a tidge inconvenient, lolololol. I'll get it sorted out shortly.

You're right, image reaper. I sometimes find myself praying that I will meet a local version of StinkyAttic and that we would hit it off. So far I have met exactly ONE who possesses that level of intelligence and class. We hit it off at first, I even had my first kiss with her. But unfortunately she did something which I thought was playing a game with me, and then her phone got cut off I think. It rings twice and goes to voicemail. :(

SA, you may be interested to know that I am growing vegetables organically right now. I'm going to have lima beans, blue lake snap beans, lentils, garlic and gold zucchini. I ate lots of mustard greens early this spring, OMG they were so tasty. I also have echinacea which has been flowering for about four years and should have good roots if I ever wanted to dig them up and chop them into tea. Too bad the distance, I'd love to have you for dinner sometime.
