*I would have put this in the medical marijuana and health section but it's not related to those specific health issues*

Hemp Seed Oil is touted as a health food wonder. With very digestible protein and considered to have the most balanced EFAs it sounds too good to be true.

I have been researching fish oils and found that they are far superior for EFAs than plant derived oils due to ease of availability to the body. This is because fish EFAs are of the long chain variety and those from plant sources have shorter chains. From these particular papers there is no mention of hemp seed oil.

Does anyone know of a study that has a comparison between fish oils and hemp seed oil?

I know a lot of health sites say nice things about hemp seed and they may be right but they are also trying to sell the stuff.

Edit: There's no protein in oil :wtf:. There is in the seed itself .

I have also read and been told that hemp seed is like the #2nd best oil you can eat/drink.

Flax Oil being #1.

I am also wondering what the OP asked. Anyone?

The Omega 3 fatty acids are absorbed far easier from animal derived sources rather than plant due to the long chains. But he's not found a study showing a comparison between animal sources and hemp sources.

in the food store i work in we sell the fish/salmon oil, flax seed, and hemp oil products. and when we talk to customers we recommend the fish oil more often, though i would say the hemp seed oil would be a close second. i personally believe that the fish oil, specifically salmon has a higher concentration of the Omega 3,6, and 9's. but hemp seed oil, its crazy stuff, very versitile, it is a very healthy seed from the hemp plant.

Cheers for the info. I've had shelled hemp seeds before but they are expensive in the uk. How are we going to get legal mass hemp production all over the world?

Turns out that Fish oils are the best source for EPA and DHA omega 3. Not sure about omega 6 though. Hemp seed oil has high levels of LA but this has to be convereted to GLA. Borage oil has high in GLA omega 6.
