And my light is a 400watt Metal Halide I was wondering If i should paint the top of the container or some shit?

Because the light is pretty freakin bright.

If I cover it with mylar or white reflective will it be fine ive just read alot of posts about dont let any light hit the roots. I just dont want this container to have a shit load of light coming in. Anyone else painted it or?

Please give a better description of your setup...

You should aim to have a continuous canopy so light does not directly get lost to the surface of the tub anyway.

What I meant is will light go through the top of the container lid and effect the roots

The light WILL leak through the rubbermaid container. I found out this the hard way as I got severe algae growth throughout the container and on my roots over the course of 2 days. Be safe and duct tape the entire containers, sides and top. Also, dont use clear tubing either...i found that out the hard way too as it will promote algae growth as well.
