if sarah palin runs for prez on the republican ticket in 2012, it would guarantee a second term for obama, but i think the republican party has not only closed that avenue, but also torn up the pavement and planted landmines

You know, I thought she was a pretty good pick for McCain at first. And then she opened her mouth. Geez I don't know how she even graduated out of grade school. Christ is she stupid.lol

yeah palin was a disappointment...it must be particularly hard for women to see her empty head bouncing off that glass ceiling...BUT she was smart enough to become a governor...she won debates in alaska and she is knowledgeable about the energy industry...she could study current events and foreign affairs, and hire a PR consultant to rebrand herself in time for 2012

but i think the republican party is going to distance itself from this loss and do some rebranding of their own (which won't include palin)...obama is probably going to shoot himself in the foot with the fiscal issues (budget deficits and trade deficits), and open the door to his critics by communicating with unfriendly foreign governments...the republicans could capitalize on that by changing their colours to become protectionist fiscal conservatives opposed to 'liberal' trade policies

Ha ha! The news clip is kind of funny. I think Palin was a very bad pick for McCain and it is partly responsible for his loss, but she is not the SOLE reason. Blaming her is scapegoating. It's going to be amusing watching the conservative punditry turn on iteslf and begin tearing iteslf apart with blame. They are going berserk at Fox News right now.

After they are done pointing the fingers of blame at each other, stabbing each other in the back, and eating their young, they can settle down, regroup and find their way forward. Even though she doesn't bear all the blame for this loss, I don't think she has as much of a future as some people think --- definitely NOT a candidate in 2012. When the Republicans find their way forward, it is not going to be through the route of the culture war or Evangelical Christianity. Palin is in the wing of the party that they need to de-emphasize.

Anyone heard anything about Joe the Plumber? Is he giving any more press conferences, or has he had to go back to snaking out drains?

I wonder if Palin spent the day bagging up all those fancy clothes for Goodwill?

If they really do auction off her clothes for charity, I know at least one guy on this site who would pay a fortune for her undies.

They're going to need to find someone who looks like Sarah Palin and thinks and talks like McCain, preferably with more moderate political leanings like his to pull in the undecideds. I'll tell you one thing, the lady had star power. I will miss seeing her on TV. She was/is a nice looker.

I really hope the gop can come up with a true conservative to run in 2012. I don't know who it would be. There doesn't seem to be a conservative party any more. They've done such a good job of ripping off the constitution and the people I don't think they are going to be a viable party for a long time. Unless Obama masively screws up he'll have a second term.

Agreed. They need to rework themselves in a lot of ways itf they are going to have any viability.

The GOP needs to focus its efforts on reforming itself rather than pointing fingers at this point. That sort of behavior is exactly the reason the country is swinging dem right now.

If they wise up and cut back all of the idiots the neo-cons played to (Jesus freaks, hardcore conservatives, etc.) and start moving back to the middle, they can start using the whip-smart republicans that they lost. I don't think the new GOP is going to have any room for a beauty-queen like Sarah Palin.

I hope not, anyway. I'm hoping everyone takes a good look around after what happened Tuesday and realizes what the fuck is actually going on.

At any rate, I look forward to a reformed Republican party. The day I can choose between two great candidates will be a great day for democracy.

They shoulda gone with Condoleeza Rice. Whether or not she is as evil as our generation's very own Tricky Dick is debatable, but there's no arguing she's got a brain and some serious star power. Presence, I guess you'd call it. She both frightens and impresses me. And she would have brought both gender and race factors to the McCain ticket, which he needed.
Good thing he didn't figure THAT one out, lol!

yeah condi would have been a good pick for mccain, and a solid future republican candidate for president...it is worrying how quickly she went from saying that iraq was not a threat to saying that we cannot wait for evidence of iraqs WMD to appear in the form of a mushroom cloud over an american city, but most politicians were guilty of the same poor judgement at the time

That would've been a credible ticket. I didn't think Palin was a bad choice, but she destroyed the ticket. The McCain campaign made some erroneous decisions and utilized her in the wrong way. Her own ego also clouded her judgement and she tried to promote herself more than the party or the ticket. Palin has that diva but not the strong woman Condolezza is. Why didn't McCain think of it?

McCain probably didn't want to tie himself to closely to the Bush administration, and IIRC she wasn't all that enthusiastic about being VP anyway. Plus, McCain wouldn't have been able to lock up the racist vote.

I think Americans have a favorable enough opinion of Condoleeza Rice that she'll have a future in politics in the US. She's the most powerful black woman in the US (with the exception of Oprah ;)) which is no small accomplishment.

first to address the capslock. shipping jobs overseas is not a liberal or conservative thing, it is a rich people thing. you think mccain, or any president for that matter was going to make so much as a dent in globalization you are crazy. i don't like it either, but it is here to stay.

second, palin is not wise on energy. i dont know where you got that, from what i have seen the most intelligent thing she has to say on energy is drill baby drill. nuclear baby.

i honestly wonder if she could have gotten away with the airhead routine as long as she did if she were ugly.

Alaskan governor will consider presidential bid if God wills
Last Updated: Tuesday, November 11, 2008
CBC News

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says she wouldn't hesitate to run for the U.S. presidency in four years if it's God's will, even though she never thought the 2008 campaign would be "as brutal a ride as it turned out to be."

In a series of interviews in the wake of last Tuesday's election, Palin said she had no problem with Republican presidential nominee John McCain, but that she resents rumours she said were spread about her and her family by the Arizona Republican's aides. She emphatically denied that she was a drag on the Republican ticket.

"I think the economic collapse had a heckuva lot more to do with the campaign's collapse than me personally," the governor said in an interview broadcast Tuesday on NBC's Today show.

Palin also said: "There were a lot of times I wanted to shout out, 'Hey, wait a minute, it's not true.' It's pretty brutal."

Nevertheless, the relatively obscure governor of Alaska, whose selection for the ticket by McCain last August brought excitement â?? and controversy â?? to the campaign, said she would be eager to do it all again under the right circumstances.

"I'm like, OK, God, if there is an open door for me somewhere, this is what I always pray, I'm like, don't let me miss the open door," Palin said in an interview with Fox News on Monday. "And if there is an open door in '12 or four years later, and if it is something that is going to be good for my family, for my state, for my nation, an opportunity for me, then I'll plow through that door."

In the wide-ranging interview, Palin said she neither wanted nor asked for the $150,000-plus wardrobe the Republican party bankrolled, and thought the issue was an odd one at the end of the campaign, considering "what is going on in the world today."

"I did not order the clothes. Did not ask for the clothes," Palin said. "I would have been happy to have worn my own clothes from Day 1. But that is kind of an odd issue, an odd campaign issue as things were wrapping up there as to who ordered what and who demanded what."

"It's amazing that we did as well as we did," the governor said of the election in a separate interview with the Anchorage Daily News.

"I think the Republican ticket represented too much of the status quo, too much of what had gone on in these last eight years, that Americans were kind of shaking their heads like going, wait a minute, how did we run up a $10-trillion debt in a Republican administration? How have there been blunders with war strategy under a Republican administration? If we're talking change, we want to get far away from what it was that the present administration represented and that is to a great degree what the Republican party at the time had been representing," Palin said in a story published Sunday.

Palin has scheduled a series of national interviews this week with Fox, NBC's Today show and CNN's Larry King Live. She also plans to attend the Republican Governors Association conference in Florida this week.

Actually I have heard the GOP is looking at Michel Steel as it's flag bearer. He is a Black man and ran for a US Senate seat in Maryland in 2006 and barely lost.

Ironic, since if what you say were to happen, it would be 100% the Dems fault since they are, and will be in control of the gov't in 2012. Palin would not be inaugurated until Jan 21, 2013.

She wouldn't actually have to be inaugurated the president. The moment the election results were announced, and the Palin-beast had won, the earth would crack open and swallow us all in a sea of magma, the sun would explode, and the very fabric of space and time would tear open, spilling the universe into a vast, cold void of oblivion.

So it is written, and so it shall be.
