Hya,
It's fascinating reading about all the activity going on outdoors in the US and I was just wondering how other growers in the Uk are getting on?
I have a lovely lady tucked away outside and she has just started going into flower, first pistills came through last week, she's about 2 foot tall with lots of new growth coming too. Should be looking about beginning of November to crop, hopefully avoiding any frost :cool:
I will post some pics later on today :)

Ye I'm in the UK get them pictures up soon!
I am growing two, the more mature one turnt out to be male (my first ever grow was just seeing how it'd go) and I have another smaller plant, waiting for it to show sex, hopefully it will be a female.
See my thread .

Here ya go :) Would love to see some pics of yours aswell.
I also put two out, both started inside then moved to the ground at about 10 inches. One grew much faster than the other, very tall and lanky but turned out to be male and had to be pulled, risk you take with bagseed I suppose.
She looks like she's doing ok though, just hope she can make it full term...

Ahh yes, I'd already looked at it without realising it was you lol. It's heartbreaking when you get a male, spend all that time nurturing then wham, you realise it's no good :-(
I'm in East Anglia, be interesting to know which part of England is best for growing, would it be south west??
You'll be alright if stinky's advising you though, she knows!

Would love to know what stage everyone else is at and how much difference there is keeping the girls in pots as opposed to planting in the ground.

I wonder if you are still around Andie (etc)
I am in the N.W. UK :)
Last year I planted 6 Early Girls, that finished up in large (5 gallon size) pots. I gave one to a friend to grow on in his back garden.
I got 3 Males and 2 Hermies ( stress caused by the lousy Summer I guess) :(
The "loaned" one was a Girl, but it wasn't loved properly :( and only yielded a few small buds !! - Typical !!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This year I have 3 of the same lot of seeds growing well so far and as this years Summer is much nicer than last, I have "high" hopes :)
Just been researching about potting on, like when to, and how big a pot for use from now to harvesting. They are about 2.5 feet tall and in 8 inch pots at present, just starting to produce bits of root from the bottom of the pots.
I am using Miracle Grow compost from B&Q.
Would you go for an intermediate pot now (early July in the UK) or go straight to a big one ?
Best regards to all, J in the N.W. UK
No Worries, nice to hear from you :)
Wow a greenhouse obviously gives them a good head start :) mine are only 4ft tall at present, they did not get started until end of April though.
What size pots are yours in ?
p.s. - if you need any advice re the computer, just ask, (it's my job :) )
Hi i have only grown 1 at the moment but that was in south east kent ( ideal place to grow i think due to hot sun and cool winds ) you can see a diray of my plant in the Signature link .
Not many outdoors growers in the uk on here few years ago so its good to find more now im back :D
Well I had a look at yours = very impressive.
Just shows how much the climate can affect em !!
Here in the N.W. it has been pretty crap even this year and the last 3 summers where really bad up here.
I read somewhere that stressing a plant late on in 12/12 can actually help the yield.
Mine are in aprox 3 gallons of soil, I wonder if I should transplant again into summat bigger, or just leave em "as is" ?
15 litres,only 2 in pots,other 3 in the ground(all origanally in the ground,had to dig 2 out for space).2 in pots are smaller cos of this!!
Just an update in case anyone is still reading this UK thread :)
It's mid August now and my "Early Girl" plants were re-potted for the last time about 3 weeks ago into 5 Gallon pots with "Miracle grow" compost.
They are about 5.5 feet tall now and looking fine.
One of them is a bit taller and more "leggy" than the other 2, I wonder if it's a boy ?
So far I cannot tell for sure if they are male or female, though I think the heads look female :) (no balls on sticks, just feathery bits, though a bit early as the flowers have not started developing yet)
Last year I had 2 Males and a Hermie :mad: (perhaps due to the appalling weather we had).
So, fingers crossed
Hey guys,
I am in East London, started growing 25th July my thread is here:
Need advice too.
My plants haven't showed sex yet but the biggest one is about 2 foot tall. I have just started to force flower by bringing them inside at 5:40 in the evening every night. Tonight will be night 2.
Well it's now September 5th and no real signs of flowers yet, though I suppose we are not into 12x12 or less yet.
Funny thing is the ones from the same seeds last year were in full bud (tho mostly male !!) by now, despite the bad weather (or because of it) ? - Mind you the tail end of our "Summer" has been pretty crap again this year :mad:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Off now to try the "macro" photo trick I found on here, using a small magnifying lens and a camera that does not support close ups. First tries look promising.

September 6th and not a white hair in sight ,I have been covering my plant for 2 weeks now at 6pm and still no sign of flowering , I've had preflowers since the start virtually .
I really thought covering it would do the job but nothing just ever lasting vegging , I'm now having to contort my plant to fit it's space and the novelty has worn off. Damn Sativa.

Bump.
I am hoping to get an opinion from those more experienced than I am re whether the pics of my 3 plants in the previous post look male / hermie / female ? They do smell OK when the sun is out, though that is rare in the UK this year !!
If they are no use as a medicinal smoke, I might as well get rid as I don't want to get busted growing somthing that is of no use !!
Thanks for looking.

When you say "It's" actually the 3 pics are my 3 plants :(
Same result as last year then :(
Do you reckon they are a waste of space and I should get rid then ?
As I said, no point in risking carrying on if they are of no use !
I think I know the answer, I just thought I would get a second opinion before composting them !
Back to buying green for another year then :(

sorry to hear that man it can be a pain but there is next year...wot are they?
the only thing that i would do if they are three different males id just let them flower and collect the pollen and save it in the freezer till next year!
its pretty simple to do and the plants look like there only a wk or two from pissing pollin out man!:thumbsup:

Thanks again.
They were bought as "Early Girl" - supposed to be good for cool, low sun, northern climes !!
Q = why would I want the pollen ?
~~~~~~~~~~
Brief tale = 3 years ago I had 1 unknown seed that produced great buds in late August ! (N.W. UK) - A thief took ALL the buds !! - I let it keep growing. 1 month later it had re-budded, producing 2 buds where each bud had been cut off :) - It was really nice and lasted me nearly a year.
Q = is there any point of chopping off all heads and seeing if any of my plants re-flowers as a female now the weather is warmer (an "Indian Summer").
Just a long shot I know !! (wondering if the whole plant is male / female or just the flowering heads)
Ta for the input friend.
Looks like the only thing to do now is figure out how to discretely dispose of 3 6ft plants !! (got no garden at home so no fire or compost heap available !!)
Unlikely to be able to get cuttings as I am pretty much on my own regarding this subject here.
As mentioned earlier, the 1 plant I had 3 (or was it 4) years ago went just fine.
The funny thing was it produced great buds in late August, this is well before 12 / 12 so I reckon it mast have been the type known as "auto-flowering" ?
Thinking next year to try a Lowryder auto-flowering plant from feminised seed, start them off early(ish) on the window sill, and hope for the best.
Do ya reckon this is a good idea ?
i got 4 roadrunner feminized auto seeds this year 2 of them went into a green house (beg aug)bit late but they both died two wks ago and the other two are at a friends house doing ok .
if u are going with auto riders maybe try the non-fem seeds just plant more.. u can get a 10 pack there not that exspensive!
the fem seeds are very sensative to any change and will hermie if treated wrong man
it is strange that u never got a female from those 3 plants again its a 50/50 chance with a regular seed.
Good info, glad you told me that - thanks :thumbsup:
True, 10 in total over 2 years in a sealed packet from a local "head shop", the only one that worked was not treated properly by the nearby neighbour I gave it to, (as a seedling) and though female, produced only a small amount of "product".
From a bit of research I think it might be to do with our poor summer weather recently. The pots, compost, watering and modest feeding etc were all lovingly looked after.
Appreciate your input friend :)
Anyone got any good strains that thrive outdoors in the U.K ? , my sativa bagseed is just flowering now (noticed first white hairs today) and I've been covering it for 3 weeks tomorrow,
I feel lucky only one of my seeds germinated and I ended up with a female (not trying to rub it in johnni-in-the nw), I've also got a few clone off her so I'm happy (got a feeling with my luck it may hermie).
But this is just a tester for a proper grow next year ,I just need to know anyone who's had good results outdoor in the U.K (early flowerer) and what seeds to buy.
Pics are not the best but macro on the N95 isn't that good.
Well I have now chopped them down and hung them up to dry.
I wonder if it is worth doing an Ice hash job on them ?
(I read up on it and I suppose it is "do-able")
Would it be worth it in your opinion ?
Yeh that is what I suspected :(
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't want to have to keep buying green from here and there.
I use it partially for pain relief, but love it for "the other benefit" too :)
My latest plan is to start an indoor grow with an auto-flowering lowryder as it looks like I could fit it in a large cupboard in the spare bedroom or in the roof space. (can we talk about this on this backwater of a thread ?)
I have done a bit of research on here and I know about fans n stuff but I am a bit confused re lights. I know from reading how much wattage and timing etc but there does seem to be 2 opinions on what type of bulbs.
One group of folk say you need the real deal in lamps, whereas another say a mix of simple growlux and daylight tubes is OK.
Any thoughts on this from my friends in this thread ? ( I would like to avoid the costs involved in buying fancy lighting )

ill happily help u out johni:)
id forget about the auto flowerers man the yield is way to little to keep you in supply man
if space is a problem then u just flower more plants at an earlier time like 2wks old !
id have to say that hps are the best for u to grow under man and if ur growroom is small there is 150w and 250w hps grow lights that u can get for as little as £80 for the 250w.
for u if u have not grown indoors before id just go with 18/6.
24/0 would keep the plants small but they do need extra care when growing this meathod . so maybe do that for ur next grow
grolux come in 400w and 600w BUILBS........... so u will have to go with a SON T PRO or SON T PLUS they are the same builb and are nearly as good as the grolux just dont have as much blue spectrum as the GROLUX.
PEACE AND LOVE

Nice XGR33N ,they are looking well , do they get much sun in that spot because I've been having issues with my neighbours conifers so my plant gets roughly about 5 to 7 hours direct sun and I was a bit worried about how they would flower ,
its not much of an issue on overcast days like this though.
Can anyone explain why as soon as the sun goes down the clouds disappear? , but september has not been too bad so far,lets hope for more of the same.

yeah I'm not stressing too much about it , it's just that when I was reading endless threads about 'how to tell the sex of your plant' or 'how can I tell if my plant is flowering', the answer was usually look at the top cola, but that is probably the last place to start flowering and is the least develoed on my plant.

allways have a little grow in the summer, started with 4 plants one was a male and executed 2 are with a friend in a poly greenhouse and doing nicely, the last one is pictured, unfortunately the top kept getting mold so a few days ago i chopped 2ft of the top which was a shame as the buds were starting to bulk up and it would have been a nice cola instead i've only managed to salvage the buds pictured had to throw away 3x as much. at the moment trichs are 70% cloudy 30% clear, the chopping will put her back a bit, but hopefully she will carry on, looking for trichs 80% cloudy 20% amber for harvest. oh yeah the strain is pure dutch don't know how good the smoke is but nuked a bud in the microwave for a idea of potency and was pleasently surprised if it goes full term should be a good smoke.and as you can see a snail liked it and had a good munch on a couple of the lower fan leaves lol.:D

haven't used them for a year as my mate supplies me with seeds now, but when i was useing them never had any problems, allways seemed to be good quality seeds with 90% of them being female, don't know if i was just lucky or what:D

try putting a magnifying glass in front of your camera ,I got some good close ups of crystals this way,you might have to take a few to get the focus right.
You said that this is your fourth grow, do you graduate your harvest or do you just chopped your whole plant down in one go ?, have you had problems with mold every grow?.
Been clear sunshine for the last 2 days in the north west, temps are staying low , my plants ok though, there a little bit tougher than those plants from down south.lol.

i useally chop the whole plant but if the lower branches have immature buds i would leave them:)
i had problems with mold last year for the first time when i started useing the small greenhouse i'm useing, so this year i have left the doors wide open all the time and have sat it on bricks 5 high to add ventilation,but i'm surprised i still got mold so next year i'm going to be useing a larger greenhouse and have a fan which should hopefully prevent this happening again, allso looking for strains that are more mold resistant like Early pearl or hollands hope:thumbsup:
going to have to get some clones from up north cos these southern plants just aint hard enough LOL:D

problem with greenhouses is condensation, not to bad in the summer but as the cold damp nights arrive, it's a bastard for mold, you need good ventilation thats why next year i'm getting a larger ghouse and going to have a couple of fans, hopefully that should sort it:thumbsup:
i haven't had a problem with insects, i had snail in there, but then put some copper tubeing on the ground around the ghouse, it's meant to give them a shock, haven't had any since.:)
i was looking at hollands hope as it is meant to be a hardy plant and quite mold resistant, same as early pearl but early pearl is allso a early flowering strain, so i might go for that next year:jointsmile:

the pics were taken about a week and a half ago.
strain unknown as a good friend at work gave me the seeds. were 9 seeds altogether. so 5 out of 9 is good i think. but 5 females out of 5 plants is fantastic i think. i will take some more pics tomorrow and put them up here. two or three different strains. two clones in an old vivarium at the mo. working towards a continuous farming.:stoned:
