I was walking home and stumbled upon this fruit bearing tree

It looks like a cherry but it has outward spikes that were not very hard

the inside was the consistency of a banana (maybe softer) but looks like mango flesh and smells like a pumpkin

The unripe fruit was a yellowish green which was turning orangish red and the ripe ones looked dark red this is a picture of ones that are almost fully ripe

I taste tested it to see if it was sweet it has a bit of a watery-mango taste to it (i didn't eat it! just licked it lol)

on another note... just got done baking some cookie-brownies mmmmmm:hippy:

Was wondering if anyone knows what this is?

Is it an edible fruit I am not aware of?

Region found - Northern California

neat!! it looks almost like a lychee nut but orange. Some people love lychees, personally I don't care for them.

I'd like to find some of those things you found though. Maybe I can pick some up at Whole Foods or Central Market or down at the mexican farmers market
