Out with the old and in with the new!! T

The main theme for this grow is in the title. Haze and some strains and hybrids MIXED with Haze seem to be everywhere in our home these days and we sort of lost track of them all and the variations thereof.

Today I'm just going to include photos of the hazes and pick up the rest a bit later on.

In the veg area we're germinating two more Brainstorm (probably our last except for our own stash since the buzz is excellent) and 3 unsexed haze plants about a month old and one of Arjans strawberry haze (feminized) the same age. No idea how many of the straight "Haze" plants are females vs males......have to wait for the pre-flowers just like the old days. We mostly likely will NOT repeat growing unsexed seeds again.....space and time involved etc... Perhaps down the road a bit (post-chemo or ?) we'll try more unsexed seeds but for right now it's simply not practical.

Man... ya'lls projects have been very fascinating lately and I must say I hope to be able to grow as well as you some day. I'm glad to see the hounds still in the saddle slap out some more herbs. I read your other post the other day in the redwood tree section and I feel you will beat this problem with your health. You are in my prayers and I'm in your corner to support in whatever way I can. Take care and I will be following this grow!

Are you doing dirt the whole way or are those meant to be cloned off?
This should be neat; Hazes are a lot of work [read: BIG] but rewarding.

Yes soil for those gals......Even purchased some 10 gal pots in case it gets to that stage.

I love so many different varieties of Haze that we felt we HAD to try the original.

Most likely it will be a one time Stinkster......they take forever to flower so doubt we'll clone.

Looks like I forgot to mention pic one......sorry for confusing everyone.

First pic: Two snl x nh about 4 weeks old.
Pic Two: Three straight haze plants and one short Arjans Strawberry Haze in dirt.
3. A very silly picture of some rapid rooters that I must have been pretty stoned to put up lol!!

We're sticking two brainstorms in the other hydro buckets so everythings these days in the veg area has some sort of Haze in it. Scary.......:D

Now not EVERYTHING in the bloom room is Haze related.....but close enough for government work.

These three pics are all Sour Northern Lights X Neville's Haze........the difference between the first big happy plant and the second, darker LESSER plant is junk genetics we think.......one looks terrific and the other just sort of blah.....

In the third photo you can see the size difference easily between them......same birthdate, same set of seeds etc etc....

And in fact SINCE that photo was taken of both plants I had to move Curly (the weird one) and give the entire damn back to Biggie who has already spread out and made herself quite comfortable for blooming.

I am going to grow these later this winter.
YouTube - Green House Seed Co. Arjan's Haze#3 Grow w/Italian Subtitles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLGjqmDeKWw)
Arjans Haze #3.
They bred the shortest growing Sativa in the world in that genetics I believe.
Seems like a cool plant and a nice smoke.

White widow about to days in bloom. We'll see if we can improve her yield this time by being more vigilant with the nutes as we've begun to slack on that a bit again and it sure doesn't take long to start affecting the hydro stuff. Keeping written records has helped us tremendously......these days we have trouble keeping our heads screwed on. :stoned:

Last photo is the entire bloom section of the room......we have three Power Plants, 2 ak -47's and a Nexus in a five gallon bucket as well.

Puff I've become a pretty big fan of the one Arjan's Haze I've tried....the Strawberry. My only issue with haze related stuff is that it generally takes a bit longer to finish....(but not always!) and usually the yield is not anywhere near what a "commercial" strain would put out for the same lighting, nutes etc(but again.....not always) but its the "stone" that simply cannot be beat imo.

Puffzter
09-11-2008, 06:08 PM
yeah I heard that too.
I am getting a fat assed joint of Haze this weekend from a friend bringing it straight from Amsterdam so soon I will know. :rastasmoke:

As for yeild and grow time it's not a problem for me anyway. I can get a years supply in one-two grows easy as I am not a big smoker nor a pusher and I don't hang with anyone that smokes so I want quality and some different strains to choose from in my Stack and what goes bad because of age I will simply flush.
The growing itself is 80% of the reason I grow and the rest is a reward of high class grass. :)

looken great there. and I am deff thinking that I need to start only growing plants that have more indica in them so I can get more compact buds.

on the other hand I love the buzz that a sativa gives off. but don't a sativas airy buds and there long flowering time.

and it really sucks that I can only use bagseeds. I do try to get dank bagseeds but that gets kind of hard cuz most dank I get doesn't have any seeds. which is a great thing but I would like to fine atleast 1-3 seeds out of an 8th of dank nugs.

so I have to wate till I can find the time and save some money to amsterdam and comeback with some to try.:D

WH, yes, the FIRST ASH is still growin. some samples were taken and fairly impressed. will likely take down this weekend.

i had 2 new and dramatic issues this round: too much heat and lack of nutes.:wtf:

now, I think the leafs bleaching may have been a sign of a lack of N in my soil.
a few weeks ago, went out and got the full spectrum of FoxFarms nutes, the liquids and the crystal boosters. Grow Big, Tiger Bloom, Big Bloom, Open Sesame, Beastie Blooms and ChaChing. I am following their feeding schedule, but reducing strength slightly. am also using the LL at 1/2 strength with no ill effects.

see my new combo log (in sig line) for a couple pics.
mine are nowhere near as nice as yours.:(

on a brighter note, the new girls are coming along verrry nicely.
will have to turn them fairly soon.

Pic one is the two newest ones we turned on 10/4 so they are only a few days into 12/12 and seem quite happy so far. They are on 1300ppm and we are raising the number pretty quickly....so far with no adverse effects.

Second and third are Ike and Curly....Day 55 Bloom. They still appear to have a few weeks to go.....not a brown pistil anywhere on either of them although the trichs are starting to get cloudy. These two are up to 1950 ppms (hanna @ 700 conversion) and pretty much have been for the last month or so.

More pics later today....we have some errands to run. These two are the farthest along in the grow room so don't wait around expecting a bunch of bud porn. :D :wtf:

I just went back and checked.....both these plants were germinated on 6/21/08 and turned on 8/16/08.

I'm using 8 inch net pots for the plants. Ten inch seemed too big and 6 too small.

I have to say this though: I have completely revamped ALL my growing supplies....., vegged the plants for at LEAST six weeks increased nutes and lighting, gone to larger resevoirs and larger net pots, increased aeration and ventilation to my plants and so far have not had one single plant or grow be an improvement over my old style of growing.

I CAN honestly say I have less problems DURING the grow........but so far certainly not a bit of improvement AT THE END OF THE GROW despite everything Mr Hound and I have put into our grow area and equipment. Rather depressing all in all to see that all that hard work and $$ spent haven't really helped in the end..........

We've just decided we're not clone people and don't really like yield we've gotten from the clones we've tried so far so we're pretty much in this with seedlings (feminized 90% of the time) from here on out.

THAT BEING SAID: Here are our last three clone plants. The first is a Master Kush from a branch I broke off the original plant and the other two are Power Plant clones. We have been using a regimen of watering with nutes at ppms of about 900 (including supplements) at a ph of about 6.4 to water and water them with this three times or so in a row then once with regular water. Can't really say I see an improvement with that type of watering over using ....say....1500ppms in one watering and then reg water for a time or two but we've only just started trying the second way so will see how it works with a bit more time to try it.

Pic one is a Haze female turned about 2 weeks ago. This was the only female out of the original three seeds we started but I'm not really surprised.....the conditions for them were somewhat rough as they got both overnuted and rootbound during their grow so I personally think that's the main reason we ended up with two males and only one female.

Pic 2: Arjans Strawberry Haze in soil. Greenhouse recommended soil growing for this strain so we thought we'd give it a go. She's only about 10 days into 12/12 herself so no signs of budding or anything yet.

First....I got an ultrasound done last Friday (for anyone who doesnt know it uses ultrasound waves to look at your organs) a bit different from a cat scan. The ultrasound report came back normal......they could not find my liver tumor at ALL (although there must be parts of of it somewhere) but this was QUITE good news although a bit scary because the the ultrasound tech kept looking at things and I thought he was going to tell me something terrible. But it was GREAT news! Even my cancer doc was smiling about it and he's a tough one to please!!

That aside: we took down the Master Kush yesterday but have several new Master Kush babies just starting in the hydro setup along with the Brainstorms which are now about a month old and have been topped twice in a losing effort to keep them short.

Also started a couple more dirt F3 generation seeds from a friend......Two whiteberry, a Church, a White Rhino and two Dutch Dragons. These seeds came from a grow that hermied but the only plant the grower SAW actualy hermie was a Power Plant so ALL THESE different seeds MAY BE mixed with PP,.......we just won't know until they grow out. So far the two whiteberry's and one church we have both have big wide leaves (unlike the Power Plant) and are growing like mad under the T5's (also unlike the PP which always seemed to give us issues) but we certainly won't mind either way because this is just different strains for us folks here at home to play with. We also painted (and repainted) flat white on the plexiglass surrounding the vegging plants and we can see that its more efficient lightwise compared to the clear stuff and has imiproved the plants in general.

Ike and Curly are starting to get close. We will have to start flushing them pretty soon. They are starting to take on a fairly "gooey" look.

I'll try to grab some photos of the vegging stuff later........it's VERY hard to close ups of Ike and Curly......they're in the back and the bloom room is pretty crammed.

Pic one is a Brainstorm in soil (just wanted to try one) and the newest babies.......2 Dutch Dragons and a White Rhino. Only two of our four DD's and one of our two White Rhinos hatched....but once they did pop seem to do fine. :)

Pic 2 is one of the WhiteBerry (left and front) and the Church. There is another Whiteberry but we already turned it. These two we topped a second time and are letting them go a bit longer under the T5s. So far we see nothing to indicate any sort of Power Plant lineage in any of the soil stuff we've germinated.

Last pic is the hydro area. There are two 30-ish day old Brainstorms in the back and two 2 week old Master Kush seedlings in the front. Everything in the hydro section is store bought seed.......we want the stability we can count on in better bred genetics for the hydro grows. ;)

Thanks for stopping by the log and your kind comments. Let me say that I'm sorry to hear about your family history and cancer has a way of sneaking in before it takes over not only your life, but those who care about you and have watch it happen as well.
I lost my mom to cancer back in 1989 so I empathhize with your situation.

Best of luck to you and yours,

but I'm f*#&@* Ike and Curly.

Actually he already knows because he had to carry all the water. :D

We are finally getting close and have turned to straight water.....(OPIE :wtf:) for the finish I believe Curly is slightly ahead of Ike but I would say that at least one will be coming down within a week and possibly both.
We refuse to say anything about body parts......but neither of these girls is lacking a bit so it will be a nice amount when all is said and done.

I believe we have found the source of the issue with yield!! The answer (we STRONGLY think) is in the drip rings and the fact that as we moved more and more plants into the room with less and less electrical I decided to stop using the drip rings during blooms and switched over to straight DWC rather than an NFT/DWC combo. We've also been running them as a recirculating system as well the enitre time and we didn't really see much difference with the recirculating part as we had hoped too either. We've been wondering about this for awhile and had suspected the drips rings might be the issue but could not run the rings in the larger buckets (leaks) and we were plain out of electrical outlets to boot so we figured since recirculating DWC was a time honored technique it shouldn't make too much difference.

Well NOW we think it does. :wtf: We've added lighting, extra nutes, space and everything else we can think of only to get lesser yields each grow.

We finally added another extension cord (rated for 1875 watts but only running air pumps which are running drip rings) and we can see a difference in the plants we think already.

PS....Because this was something we've been struggling with for awhile we decided....and were able...to keep the drip rings running for the entire grow for Ike and Curly and this is the main reason I think we will see a difference in the yield at the end of their grow.

Think sticky thoughts!!

Curly of course, is looking a little different these days......

She did not take us long to trim.......she was pretty much ALL bud......much more dense than ANYTHING we've harvested in awhile.

I personally am sure now, that the answer is in the drip rings/nft. Even the plants that we had stopped the drip rings did IMMEDIATELY better when we them back on compared to straight DWC.

Ike will come down in a few days. She still has a bit to go. We won't be looking at a pound from either of these plants......but it is possible we MAY (key word: MAY) come up with a pound between the two of them.

I wil try for some bud porn a bit later. ;)

Sour Norther Lights x Neville's Haze/Day 21 Bloom.

We dumped the other SNL x NH after I brilliantly dropped it and messed up all the root so this girl is the only one left.

As you can see her stem is split straight down the middle. This is my fault and also that the bloom room is pretty crammed. Both Curly and Ike have taken longer than expected.......I seem to remember harvesting the same strain at about 9 weeks last time and one of the plant's was a personal record yield.

ANYWAY......up for names....we're fresh out. :D

Here's a few more.

Pic one is our ASH and she's doing terrific. We put both her and the remaining Haze plant into 10 gallon tubs with FFOF because I'm just not sure how to go about fertilizing these plants. I definitely remember the ASH going VERY light on the nutes in hydro but Greenhouse says this plant can be a good yielder so we thought we'd try one in soil and just see what it does.

Straight Haze in pic two we've been struggling with. She's really been droopy since transplanting her into the ten gallon tub and I can't tell if the issue is overfert (we haven't fed her any nutes......just the FFOF said that she seemed to do well with before) or over/under water. Thoughts? She IS still growing (can't even fit the whole her into the pic) and is about 6 feet tall at this point. There ARE buds forming........slowly..... but quite a lot of budsites so we'd LOVE to pinpoint the actual issue and fix it.

Pic 3 is White Widow at Day 51 Bloom. Again this is a plant that started out doing extremely well in bloom and then fizzled when I stopped using the drip ring. Since putting the drip ring back on (it was off for about a month) made an immediate difference but our window for dense growing had closed by the time I started the drip rings back up and it definitely cost us..

How long are those last three plants have left to go?

Weedhound
10-25-2008, 10:17 PM
Thanks Shov. :) We just today put the White Widow on straight water so no more than a week for her I think. Both the Haze and Strawberry Haze are pretty early in bloom....something like 3 weeks or so. The Haze is supposed to take 16 weeks to flower and the ASH runs a bit longer than normal too. We have them pushed into a corner and they ain't moving until they either die or finish.

XC, We clipped some on a few and it helped somewhat but I'm also drilling little gullies on the sides of the net pot because the part that leaks is where the entire drip ring connects to itself........if that makes any sense.

Between the drilled gullies and the smaller drip rings (we ARE going to make them all shorter) we hope to have the leaking issues fixed and can get back to better yields than we have been getting.

Thanks for the tip btw......NEVER would have thought of that one myself. :)

This really is an impressive plant even if I do say so myself. She has at least 2 BANANA sized colas in the back that you can't even see and even from a side angle you can tell she just growing bud all the way through. Her colas are so heavy she's just about touching the floor.

Here are few trich shots.....I apologize already because I just don't seem to do these well. These are all photos of the top of a Curly bud.

Pics one and two are taken regular macro
Pics three and four are taken at 4 x zoom.

Ike still has a few days imo......but is very close and so is the White Widow we've been growing. I'd wager they'll both be down by the end of the week
and as soon as they are gone we are putting two new brainstorms into 5 gal buckets and sticking them in the bloom room. Let me see if I can find a recent photo of the brainstorms .......they've already been topped THREE seperate times and the buckets are on the floor because they're just too big already.

Hey XC,

Sorry for getting that wrong . :D I need to learn my whore phrases better. Your idea about cutting the rings shorter....plus taping off the first hole in each side of the rings has worked great so far! No leaking and I can leave my drip rings on! NOW WE"RE GOING TO SEE SOME GROWING!!

Zeb, the white widow was not any sort of record :( and I won't be growing her again but she did leaves us with approx 2-3 gooz oz and a LOT of immature buds and trim which will make their way into our capsules and cookies so we are not unhappy. All very sticky stuff......she was definitely a WHITE widow.

We also took down a power plant that was at day 55 or something.....just wanted it gone....that one is a soil plant that looks as though it will give us a litttle bit over an ounce or so.

Moved the Brainstorms into the bloom room thank god......they were starting to take over the living room.

Ike will come down tomorrow for sure. Her ph is dropping from 5.8 to 5.1 daily.......which tells me her roots are dying off and it's time for the fat lady to sing. We have a drs appt today so it will have to be tomorrow......but its definitely time.

She took us HOURS!

She is definitely a "Hound Personal Best" yielder. She was absolutely massive; all the way through. I cannot say I see a pound there but I'm positive we are not looking at less than 10oz. Our previous personal best was also an SNL x NH at 9.3 oz. I feel very sure she will beat that.

Oh yeah; the difference is in the drip rings.

Pic one is a typical bud from her.....first one Mr Hound trimmed. Pic two is the top off half.....still half of her still left "on the vine"' as it were so we were just getting started there. :stoned:

She fills up the entire first row and half the back row.......three times the amount the other two plants we are drying take up.

Thanks alot you guys.....love the positive feedback. (except I'm still not sure about Rock.....:D)

Well two bits of news regarding my medical condition.

1. The latest cat scan can find NO sign of the original tumors in my chest...save for something they believe is a fluid filled liver cyst and not related to my cancer. In other words....the chemo is, and has been working EXCELLENTLY in my case. My doctor spoke to me today about the possibility of a break in my chemotherapy. And it's the very first time we have EVER heard him talk about a future as though I will actually have one. Apparently the numbers for such a great response are very small so we feel even MORE positive about it these days. :)

ROCK ON!!!!!!!

2. Mr Hound is taking me in for a blood transfusion tomorrow so I won't be around for the day. The anemia has gotten too low and is affecting my heart rate and since the insurance company won't pay for ProCrit injections this is the next step. I'm told I'll feel "like a whole new person" after they transfuse 2 units so it's really a good thing.

We talked to the doc today about "post chemo" plan. It feels amazing even to say those words. We will do the blood transfusion and then two more chemos (totaling six). Then he will do a PET scan (bit different from CAT scan and don't ask me how because we do not use that type of scan in animals.) The PET scan will tell him if there are any more cancer cells remaining in my body. There is actually a possiblity that the cancer will gone from my body completely. A CHANCE. I find this amazing.

We are not by ANY means talking "cure." But my doctors ARE beginning to use words like "remission" and what kind of treatments, exams etc they would do if I were to continue along the same line with the same excellent results we've been getting so far.

There is absolutely NO way to know if/when it will come back.....BUT.....just for today........we have kicked it's butt. And that feels pretty good. :) :)

And it's the very first time I have EVER heard him talk about a future as though I will actually have one.

This is fantastic!! for you to have had such a great response to the chemo. Hopefully with regular checkups you can force it back into remission even if it isn't permanently gone from your body.

This is great news! I bet that felt like a big weight lifted off you hearing your doctor talk like that.

Heh heh....thanks WT. Your statement about weed assisting cancer REALLY has me wondering if there was some sort of connection. And I still do wonder........There was an April 2007 study on cancers (NOT my type mind you) where mice were injected with large amounts of cannabis (and had already been injected with cancer cells) and they got approximately [B]50% more tumor shrinkage in the mice given the large amounts of cannabis during threatment.[B] Apparently the mice were stoned (stumbling around, munchies etc... ) so it would have to be a big dose.

AND.....from what I have read, certain compounds in cannabis can "block" certain receptors that have something to do with either the dividing cells or the blood supply to the tumor......don't have that one down 100%. I am simply PONTIFICATING here.........but I have wondered why....if say cannabis WERE part of the reason I responded so well to chemo.....why did it not prevent my tumors in the first place.

To further up on my stoned theory I came up with a couple thoughts. (that's amazing all by itself!! :D) They are 1. I eat/capsule several grams of cannabis daily. I do NOT smoke it......but I DO ingest it. ALOT as we all know. My point here is this.....I take big doses consistently. More than most people can smoke. I personally.....even if I had PERFECT lungs.......could not smoke the amount of cannabis daily that I can ingest when eating. So smoking it isn't enough of a dose......you must ingest a larger amount regularly.

2. My understanding is that THC itself is only one of many compounds in cannabis so perhaps it is NOT the cannaboid that blocks the receptors in question. (complete guess here) I know there have been many tests run with Marinol (pure thc) but what if that were NOT the actual cannaboid that was needed for blocking? What if it were one of the many OTHER cannaboids in the weed?

3. What if you need to use them in conjunction with standard chemo......they simply block certain receptors, which then allow the chemo meds to do their job more effectively. Does this at make sense to anyone?

Weezard if you read this....how much ganja do you ingest daily and how? Maybe I should start a thread asking..........

A million and one "what ifs"? But I find myself wondering..........all thoughts (even laughing at) welcome. :)

hey girl, I think you might have hit the nail on the head BOOM SMACK one shot....My Father in law used Marinol in the past for his M.S. it Didn't do as much for him as smoking...so What you've said about ingestion, I think is the big factor...Even though I'm not a doctor, I do play one on ....?....some things are better left unsaid....

I applaud you again for your victory...

INT.OCTAGON CAGE.NIGHT

WEEDHOUND's Hand is raised by the referee, as the announcer YELLS out her name as the victor.

The doctors now tend to the fighter only known as the big C, who is still laid out unconscious.

The crowd and WEEDHOUND's corner cheer so loud untill...KABOOM the roof explodes, from what has to be the loudest applause in fighting history. The MGM GRAND is now topless like a convertible ragtop.

We back out of the cage, up through the hole that used to be the roof as WEEDHOUND yells...

WEEDHOUND

Victory is mine

Through the roof, up and over the bright lights of the Las Vegas strip we fly.

As the lights become farther away the distinct shape of cannabis leaves and flowers quickly overgrow the planet we call home...

And all is once again balanced in the Universe...

That's why I turned down the chemo and the radiation after the surgery.
Well, to be accurate, the chemo is not an option, and the radiation can cause symptom that I won't even talk about in mixed company.
So, Ganja went from my bffl to my "clutching straw".
Always been a heavy smoker. 40+ years.
Nowadays, you could call me a weed hound.:D
I can't really give a number or amount, I have several grades of medication from my garden, including hash.

Then I break out the good stuff!:stoned::stoned::stoned:

i was wondering that too, until i thought about this: isn't it the leaves that need light for photosynthesis? if so, as long as plenty of leaf is in the light, it ought to be ok,,,,i guess:wtf:

Thanks for the props guys. I do believe Carrie is the largerst plant we have grown to date. Sh'es been marching along wonderfully and just gets thicker and stickier every day. I think she will also take about 10 weeks to finish completely because of her size.

Zeb, she's an SNL x NH, one of my junk seeds. There were two originally but I dropped one and tore up all the roots so she's the only one left.....thank goodness really because I don't think we can fit two of these in the bloom space. We're having enough trouble as it is.

Hey hydro, (and Rock too)

This is a questiion we have also asked.....how well will these grow away from good lighting? All I can say here is that we will find out. The branches are too tall to bend successfully so we'll just watch and see. I have a feeling it will take some of the good solid weight away from the bud but it WIILL be a bud......just not great thick ones like the ones directly under the light. We'll find out by the end. :)

PS...We considered trimming her but want to see what the end weight will be so don't want to prune anything back. I certainly can't say she'd be an elbow or anything....but we WILL be interested in the final result. ;)

Well we came to a point where ALL our grow areas just became overcrowded. We had to make some decisions on what to do because we more plants than lighting areas and no where to put them. :( So we ended up harvesting our big original Haze plant (she was only about 2/3 done) and a few hybrids in soil we had been growing. It KILLS me to throw away perfectly good healthy plants but it was my poor planning that caused the issue in the first place so it's my own fault.

Well culling some stuff worked well......we just got too out of control for our best interests....which reminds me to say that Carrie will probably be our last "huge plant" for awhile. It's a total blast to aim for something and have fun working to accomplishi it but we need the space for more practical growing these days, boring as that is. So Carrie most likely will be our last "really big" plant........our last aim for greatness. :D

This is something I used to do quite a while back then forgot about......but wish try it at least once to see if we can improve somehow on the many branches we break off due to LSTing. I think both these girls have been topped on three seperate occasions.....hang on; I'll check germ date.......

They were germed from seed on 9/27 so pretty close to two months old. Hopefully they will do their usual nice yielding thing. We've always gotten a pretty good yield from our MK's.....except one that finished in something like 47 days but this is from a different batch. They are, however, not my usual F3 gen seeds  but some actual seed vendor seeds that should be pretty stable.

I'll be watching your MK grow since that's one I'm wanting to grow a bit of in the near future. :hippy:

I'm eagerly awaiting to chop down my SNLxNH especially after seeing your yields. Were the buds pretty dense after it dried or is it more of a light and fluffy? So our Master Kushs (shown at day 10 bloom in pic one) did iimmediately what the Brainstorms did when we moved them into the bloom room......they took an enourmous jump and frankly I'm sick of LST'ing and breaking off branches etc etc so we're trying some SCROG this grow.

The "screen table" was very easy to make with some extra wood we already had around. The screening itself is 2 inch chicken wire. We may go with smaller screening next time but I felt we were pusihing things as it was since the plants are at approx day 12-13 into bloom already.

We've layed the screen late and MK tends to have firm stems and branches (read: easy to break) so I know there are some broken branches etc that we will need to watch for. Only time will tell how much we've helped or hurt the plants. Next grow we will install the screen BEFORE the plants reach screen height but we were just plain stuck here so just went for it.

We're thinking of possibly going with two scrog screens in the middle eventually which allow better efficiency with the 1kw light. A lot will depend on how much of a success this first SCROG run turns out to be.

PS....Thanks DT. :)

And the plants seem to have adjusted quite well already and have turned themselves back toward the light. There ARE some damaged branches etc which I sprayed preventatively with Serenade.....but I don't think there will be many problems or we would have started seeing them right away.

The eventual goal (we think) is to have two seperate scrog screens in the center and then a regular set on each side so that we can keep the light down low.

We're not sure though if we want to use the second SCROG for soil plants or hydro. See with the 400 w on the side it would make sense to SCROG underneath that light.....but wouldn't solve the problem on the other side which has become a jungle (as you can easily see in the last photo of the Brainstorms) and that's when we start losing good exposure to the lighting......especially on the lower branches. Thoughts?

One of my fears would be that if a soil plant needs flushing or something.....and is in a SCROG setup it would be very hard to remove or treat whereas with hydro we can pull and change the nute solution without disturbing the plants.

Thanks WT. :)

PortaScrog has got to be the answer Weedy!

if its big, how about setting it on a lil movers dolly-like setup, to allow you to roll it around?
then u just need to construct a lil framework around-AND SECURED TO your pot and 'viola!, potra scrog.
im actually working on a new design with adjustable canopy which can be raised as the plants develop height. the advantage i'm theorizing is that the plants will be 'screen-friendly' by the time you have to restrict the max height.
should make for an interesting experiment in the next wave.
watch for previews;)

my thought on this is go vertical with the lighting, but in doing this you'd need lights from every angle in that rain forest you got going on...So I can see how the porta-scrog would be a better use of the overhead lighting....

Weedy,
i gots an idea, but problem is with ur idea of detatching from the pot.

u'll remember this-
portascrog version 2.0 (pvc tubing+ metal fence) (http://boards.cannabis.com/attachments/grow-log/203400d1222995815-rock-returns-snlxnh-ww-strawberry-haze-p1010038.jpg)
http://boards.cannabis.com/attachments/grow-log/203400d1222995815-rock-returns-snlxnh-ww-strawberry-haze-p1010038.jpg

this was my second prototype portascrog.

heres one of the problem/concerns w portascrog

the frame must be anchored to the pot somehow, because too much movement of the frame or pot, without the other, pulls on the plant violently.

how do i know, it happened.

early on while moving them around the room, the frame swayed hard and almost toppled over, taking the whole plant with it. it woulda been a disaster, probly snapped off at the soilline and killed it for sure.
i quickly caught and restabilized it and learned a quick lesson while my heart was beating in my throat.

if ur considering the need to flush, consider a tub style runnoff setup like this. then u could raise and siphon off excess while flushing, or if u overwater.

of course w hydro, i guess you would just drain out.
but u'd still have the same stability concerns.

i'm offering my limited experiences with having used a couple portascrogs already.
i think the new one (version 3.0 coming soon) will be the best one yet.;)

Wow weedhound, those buds in your pics are huge.
I'm glad your trying the scrog technique, it is so much fun, well at least for a novice like myself. In regards to your concern of flushing soil, do what I do, use a shop vac to suck it up. I plan on continuing using the scrog technique, it does have its disadvantages though, such as transplanting and plant access, but if you know your plants, you'll have no problem.

Best of luck!

The thing is I want to scrog more than one plant at a time forr light efficiency. That's why the table and the two plants we have in SCROG now. I just don't think I want an immovable SCROG attached to a single pot......I think a table like the one we have would work better. Thoughts?

Aloha Weedy,

Not for nuttin' but I scrogged around for a while.
Found I could do as well or better with intelligent LST, FIMming and nipping.

Once they start the "7th inning stretch", I'd still get 2 or 4 tops that got very "uppity".

I opted to let her dry-out 'til slightly limp and tie the long stems together with the first half of a square knot.
Makes 'em run sideways two branches at a time, just like scrog, but without the added wire shadows and tangles

Just twine them together for a week, then untwine them when all the junction buds go vertical.

Works a treat and no screen hassles.

Just a thought.

Aloha,
Weeze

That's one of the things I'm wonder about wheeze.....will the SCROG yield match just "letting the plant do its thing" like Carrie or something.

Don't have a pic of your setup when you ran it do you?

I think that would depend on the strain, the light and the individual lady.

But, generally, I'd think that scrog is more suited to LEDs or fluorescent tubes. Any wide, flat light source with little penetration.

I thought you had some killer HPS bloom lights, ya?
I'm willing to bet that vertical HPS will produce better with someone like Carrie than it will with some flat topped scroggy girl.:D

Running a 6 gal. DWC gal right now with two sets, (4), scragglies entwined.

Actually, I just untied them Sunday and they are still horizontal with a row of 6 - 8 secondary buds on all four stems.
Just like they'd been scrogged.

I'm kinda waiting for an end to my grow room lease to post any pictures.
I don't have the room or the nerve to grow at my home.
So I'm a "sharecropper"
And I respect my "landlord's" pananoia.

So, I take choke pictures but must wait until that space is, shall we say neutral, before I post them.

Hey WH, about your question in regards to yield with a scrog over "letting the plant do its thing." I personally think the yield with a scrog is more, your exposing all bud sites to equal intense light, so all exposed buds should be a lot better developed buds, You may not get forearm size colas but you do get a screen full of average size buds.
Plus it is great for saving space.
Check out this guys scrog, it inspired me a lot.

That's what draws me to it jd.....the chance for even light penetration. I'm going crazy and plants are just tripping over each other trying to get to the light. In a ""perfect" setting like Carrie's the plant "doing it's own thing" obviously has good results. But there is a cost in that she takes up a lot of room and hogs up a lot of light which leaves the other plants short of what THEY need so there has to be a balance somewhere. :)
