Hi friends. I'm a guitarist, so i like pretty much music with guitar. I like music like metallica, jimi hendrix, stevie ray vaughan, joe satriani, iron maiden, santana, bob marley, ACDC, yngwie, etc.... Mostly metal and rock. So if u guys would have any advice on good musically advanced groups or whetever that would be pretty cool because i'd like to discover new music or to take the time to hear some. So thx in advance!

Just do alittle digging through these forums and you'll find tons of stuff. Every so often, someone starts a thread about good music when high. Although you aren't looking for music for specifically being high, it will give you ideas.

right now, i'm listening to jack johnson. He's the polar opposite of metallica, but it's good, chill music.

whoah whoah.... he was talking about his list :). Not urs.

I would suggest to you the Grateful Dead. On a first glance they are hippy rednecks playing marijuana bluegrass. But when u understand them you will notice the strange timing they use.

such as Phil Lesh walking around in 3/4 while the timing is 4/4. This is the type of shit that will help u out. Just get ur technique down then move on over to theory. that is were the boys are seperated from the men.

Jefferson Airplane. Good stuff.

If you're looking to advance as a musician, though, you'd do well to at least learn some basic jazz. Its uses will works its way into all your playing. Go ahead and get some Thelonious Monk.

And yes, of course, the Grateful Dead. "The Eleven" is a prime example of their supreme awesomeness.

Hey, I dig the Smashing Pumpkins and Alanis Morisset only when she plays the song "Spoon" With DMB. Everyone else on that list can eat shit

everyone on that list eats shit. the only reason that song was good is bc DMB had something to do with it. alanis wouldve stolen the show!!!! ahahaha i jsut cant stand the singer dude of smashing pumkins. theyve got cool music some but once the vocals hit, the song changes yo.

yep. Gotta love when they go Dark Star>St. Stephen> the Eleven

if only I were born a lot earlier i could have experienced that..... oh well. luckily we got live recordings.

Yep jazz will do the trick for music theory. There is a book called the Real Book. Get the latest volume in the Treble Clef. a bit pricey but loaded with sheet music that will turn u into a wonderful musician. u are a guitarist now, but jazz will turn u into the musician u thought did not exist within u.

Fat joe isn't that bad. He's got a couple good songs (My lifestyle (remix), My perogative, don cartagena, here's a little story).

I didn't like lean back at all, but I don't think Joey Crack deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Ja Rule.

Well Mellow, its nice to hear of a fellow guitarist. I like basically all the music you mentioned besides for Joe satriani and yngwie...theyre a little too gay for my taste, I mean their phenominal virtuosa's, but I dont like em. Ive been playing of blues, I suggest you try-its good for learning to build kick ass rock and roll solo's. I suggest you check out the roots of rock guitar like zep and acdc, and listen to some Robert Johnson, Django rienhart(was in an accident and his pinkie and ring finger were fused together into like a flipper finger lol, but he was great), buddy guy, Muddy Waters, Robert Cray, the good old stuff. But mainly dude....dont play what you learn like a techi guitarist, play what you feel man, if it feels right, it is right.

Indeed.

But check out some Quicksilver Messenger Service. John Cippolina is one of my favorite guitarists. Also, Mike Bloomfield.

And of course all the greats aformentioned such has Floyd, Hendrix, The Allman Brothers.

Rock on.

I'm going to give you guys the benefit of the doubt and pretend you did mention Led Zeppelin and I just missed it. I'm a guitarist myself and Jimmy Page continues to baffle me. Also, singing is my first love, and Robert Plant is one of the most amazing vocalists I've ever heard. And as a cohesive unit, the band is just amazing - so polished. Along with the Beatles and Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin is one of my favorite bands - a stoner standard!

Well, prolly none of you have ever even heard of this dude, but my fav guitarist is Al Di Meola. (four time winner as Best Jazz Guitarist in Guitar player Magazine's Reader Poll.) If you ever want to feel like you suck at playing, give him a listen. ;)
