I have some bagseeds and I use to hang out with this lady who said if they crumbled in your finger the seeds are no good.. [[ of course she would squeeze the shit out of them and break every one]]

If a seed is more fragile does that mean is has a higher rate of not sprouting at all or does this not imply anything.

I am trying to adjust anything I've heard in the past to the truth so I am not just going off unexperianced peoples opinions.

Thank you.

The maturity of the seed affects a couple of factors , the colour is an indicator , as is the outer shell. Immature seeds are often light in colour and a little small and fragile .
The shell should be firm and the colour should be mid brown to black.the seeds should also be of a reasonable size.
This is a generalisation but in 80% of cases I would be looking for these factors when choosing seeds.

Obviously the more mature a seed is the more likely you are to grow a healthy plant.
