View Full Version : HPS setup and 3pin cable wiring

My HID reflector has E40 socket with 3 pin power plug (same as PC power out).
I tried to wire the N pin to neutral, E pin left unwired and L pin wired to starter. Everything else is wired exactly the same as shown in the picture. I may not explain this very well so in this case for better understanding just replace the bulb in second picture with 3pin plug. However this didn't work.
I tried connecting without 3pin plug with just simple 2 wires directly to E40 socket and it worked.

So the problem is 3pin plug. I think something is wrong with these 3 pins. Do I need to use the Earth pin? I left it unwired.

It appears that you have the N and L swapped. I checked my cord and compared to your plug in the picture, the right hand pin should be line and the left hand pin neutral.

No I tried different combinations, still doesn't work.

OK, here's my wiring shown in picture. I hear the buzz coming from ballast and starter but still there's no light. I tested my bulb without reflector and it works well... This is strange, please help me on this.
