You see it all the time, most predominantly in Hip-Hop/Rap culture. We've all heard the media's response, and we've all heard the rap political answer. "It's just music. We don't shy away from the truth." While I think this point is valid, I also know pain when I see it. And somewhere y'all, there is a stripper [using hard drugs] in order to take her mind off of how she makes her living. Somewhere yall, there is a rapper [using hard rugs] in order to take his mind off of how he makes his living. This goes way beyond gender ever could. Has self-exploitation actually become a REQUIREMENT to making it big in our society? Speak up!

One Love,
RastaKaze

Why would a rapper [use hard drugs] to get away from his awesome life.
This my good sir, Is the problem. You assume someone is happy, because they have money? Check yourself..

Why would a rapper [use hard drugs] to get away from his awesome life. Being rich and famous is not nearly as much of a burden as being poor and having a hard job. If a rapper is doing any drug, its because he has the money to afford it, and he wants to get high. Thats all there is to it. Also, saying that just because someone is a stripper that they hate their life is a very broad generalization. In fact, I don't think that its a terrible thing that women are objectified. These women still have people in their lives that are close to them. If they are stripping or dancing in a music video, they're putting themselves out there to be looked as an object.

Last thing, its not like men arent objectified also, anyone can be objectified.

Im saying that a rapper has no more reason, If not less reason, to be unhappy with their life than anyone else.

Do you read?

Please elaborate.

From my original post..

This goes way beyond gender ever could.
On another note..

Im saying that a rapper has no more reason, If not less reason, to be unhappy with their life than anyone else.
People with fame are notoriously unhappy..Billie Holiday, Ray Charles, Tupac Shakur..? They all struggled w/addiction and they all led (In a broader sense) emotionally empty, career driven lives!

All people are notoriously unhappy. There's many people who struggle with addiction. The only reason you think that is because you can see what goes on in their personal lives. If you looked at everyone's lives you would see thats its not because someone is famous that they are unhappy, its just because they're people. People are naturally unhappy.

I love it the first thing when there's something wrong with society"Oh its case of these rappers"
Objectification of women has been around forever. Its in movies, television, ads, everything. But yet everyone is so quick to blame rappers. Its an easy copout to blame someone else

Its the fault of these women that are putting themselves in the position, nobody elses. Women or anyone know that they can make it big through hard work but many just choose the easy way out by exposing their bodies or making themselves look like fools for a quick buck.In life you have to demand respect to get it. If you dont respect yourself, do you think anyone else is?
And people dont take drugs just to run away from life or becasue they are unhappy. Its because alot of them just find it enjoyable. By your concept, you only smoke marijuana to run away from life.

I didnt say that you are unhappy, but most people at some point in their life, go through a faze of extreme depression. Also many people today, are very pessimistic which makes them think that it's right to be unhappy.

Bullshit. I'm not blaming Rap, I'm a DJ myself. Infact, I agree with you..I'm sick of Hip-Hop taking the rap for all the negativity in the world. No pun intended!

I didn't say people just use drugs because they are unhappy, or are looking for an escape. I use it to stimulate my emotions..Also, nothing is quite relaxing as a joint after a long day at work :D But hard drugs, partying etc. is indeed an ESCAPE, a way to numb yourself, your person. You just gotta learn to tell the difference between going out and having fun every night, and actually having a problem...........

Just an official FYI... it would be a good idea to re-familiarize ourselves with the site posting rules, which do not allow any discussion of specific hard drugs. Since we don't have the staff to decide whether to allow it on a case-by-case basis, there's a sweeping no hard drug talk rule. I've edited the first couple posts to remove specific drug references and made it clear [with brackets] what parts are not the original text.
Thank you in advance.

Thankayou bunches.
As for the objectification of women, eh what can I say... everything is for sale for a price. You take a woman with little education, and wave enough cash in front of her to fill her heating oil tank, when she's making minimum wage and can't afford basic expenses, hells yeah she might take her shirt off a couple nights a week. When we stop allowing ourselves to be bought, we won't be able to complain that we're being objectified any more. Dammit, I demand to be paid for the contents of my [big] head rather than the perkiness of my [ehhh... notsofast!] boobs! I work my ass off and keep my pants ON! :D
And then there's always the other bit... who's scamming whom? Who is getting the raw end of the deal when a dude making $10 an hour pays a stripper half a day's wages for a lap dance? Junk food for thought...
