So here's a tray of buds. Everyone share please!
All that scorching is from the problems I'm having with my well water during spring snowmelt. The pH of the promix PLUMMETS when exposed to such high concentrations of organic acids over a number of weeks.
Serving up buds on a platter? How considerate of you! My computer monitor isn't allowing me access to them for some reason, but I'll keep trying.
I wouldn't worry about the scorching... after a good trim, they'll be looking purdy as ever! Happy tokin'!

They're going to glass jars and the trim is going to butter for caramels.
The strains included are SourBubble, Toxic Lemon, BlueJay x Bogglegum, and a couple others.
SyKo, if you're gonna be an ass, get off my thread. Seriously. You're trolling... Did you not see the discussion of problems caused by the spring runoff changing my tapwater? Or do you guys not have snow in Canada?

I just tested my well water this week (first time). It was 7, neutral. What kind of PH spread are you experiencing? What have you found in the past? Just curious as I've never given it much thought.

The issue isn't that the well water has a pH problem, which is why I didn't catch it right away. The pH is in the high 6's, no problems there... the issue is the lack of dissolved minerals. I tested it for dissolved lime and came up with almost NONE!!! But while I was doing that test, I found a SHITLOAD of buffering in the range 6.2-6.6, indicating high levels of organic acids. What this means is that the lime in my promix is getting used up WAY faster than it should be considering the pH level is correct, and the plants are showing signs of pH problems in their last 2-3 weeks of flower. So my ProMix is going bad 5-6 weeks after first wetting. Now I am treating my well water like distilled, and adding calmag plus to slow this down.
This is an instruction for that analysis:
Massachusetts Water Watch Partnership pH/ANC Protocols (http://www.umass.edu/tei/mwwp/phalk.html#anchor114572)
You need a GOOD sensitive pH meter, a Hach digital titrator, and a Hach sulfuric acid .16N cartrige. Also labware- a source of clean deionized or distilled water, clean beaker, and a magnetic stir plate is a good thing to have too.

as the tune goes, "...I don't know much biology."
I do some work as a process instrument tech, so I went to school (Foxboro Instruments, Foxboro, Ma.) for the hardware (PH meters, etc.) We use them for boiler water testing as well as RO filtering of whey protein production.
Good luck with your organic acids. (??)

Yes, I agree they look scorched to hell and back but having already noted that, I see no reason for anyone else to continue rubbing salt in the wounds. I think you'd be equally offended if you'd had a problem in YOUR grow and my ONLY post on your log was telling you how shitty your product is, right? And I do not for one minute believe that anyone is kissing my ass because I'm a chick. I have a lively correspondence off the boards with a few members here, enough to call them friends I've never met- and friends get to say nice things to each other!
Lol ok i didnt think one little comment was gonna start anything.Good luck :)

Well since it is your ONLY comment on the log... I suppose I'm disappointed that you chose to note only the BAD and none of the GOOD.
Thanks for the luck, I'm going to need it... that same snowmelt that sent the nearby stream flowing through 3 rooms of my house is now killing my plants. It's about time for me to stop having water problems :(
I need a vacation.

So my ProMix is going bad 5-6 weeks after first wetting. Now I am treating my well water like distilled, and adding calmag plus to slow this down.
This actually sounds about right for promix. I found I started having ph issues in my promix about 6 weeks or so after the first watering.
Granted this is my first grow but I noticed PH problems about once every 6 weeks and would have to transplant about once every 6 weeks.
I feel stupid for even saying this because I am 99.9% sure you know this, but with promix as long as you transplant about every 5-6 weeks you most likely won't have any ph issues due to the lime being used up.
edit: I don't know why I assumed you are running promix plain out of the package but did you add any extra lime to your soil mix? I plan on trying to mix in an extra cup of very fine dolomite lime per gallon of promix next grow to try to help ward off ph problems before the plants are ready for transplant.
I'm thinking of doing an all promix grow. Easier to control over-nuting when there's nothing in the soil :). Plus I learned alot about how to deal with peat this grow. As long as you stay on top of it then it doesn't appear to be that big of a deal, but you slip up and problems will come grasping at you out of the wood works.

I guess I am wierd..I wouldn't even go into a noob growers thread and tell him his shit was fucked up...I might mention somethings i think they might need to fix, but if it was an uncontrollable issue, I would ASSume an experienced grower already knows they had issues with some, and don't need to be told...just my opinion...

Yeah, I know about the ProMix and that's why I have always avoided it. It's the freakin peat- cheap but twitchy. I expected a full month though, assuming that there was enough hardness in the water to help the buffering. Never assume a thing!

Both these threads have info on ProMix, lime, and repotting!
Ugh. Just when I thought I was out of the woods... One of the DDs that went into flower (an undesirable low numbered one) sprouted a set. The first pic is of a herm and a female, and the second is a straight up full blown herm. And I didn't notice him before he rubbed one off all over the surrounding plants. Even better, he/she is RIGHT in front of the fan. I'm pissed.
I am also having water problems. I'm running off a well that is located at the base of a steep hillside covered with hemlock trees. Conductivity reads only 107 micromhos, but I'm apparently using up the buffer SUPER fast... I ran an alkalinity test on it, which is a simple titration with sulfuric acid and a pH meter, and discovered that it buffers like crazy in the mid 6 range, but that the CaCO3 content was only 2.4 freakin mg/L! So I'm assuming crazy levels of organic acids, and no limestone, which explains the sudden appearance of Ca deficiency symptoms in my flower room. The short version is, my water, which should be awesome, sucks, and I'm running with CalMag now.
Aw man! That sucks, Stinky! Shit happens, though. Hope no other problems happen.

Thanks guys!
This morning I was going through one of the plants on that tray, a RushMan's Toxic Lemon that I put in the stud box with a flowering SourBubble male... the pollination took! Yay! I now have seeds of a cross of two of the frostiest, most colorful, coolest-tasting strains I've ever had the good fortune to grow. That Toxic Lemon finishes about a week too late for me to feel comfy growing it in New England, and the SourBubble is one of the fastest strains around. I'm looking forward to finding an individual that finishes a little quicker to keep as a mother for outdoor growing next year.
Another update:
Since adding calmag to my well water, the pH lockout/deficiency symptoms have completely halted. There's still scarring obviously, but no evidence that the plants are getting worse, and the marginal ones- that showed mild Mg def but no actual necrosis of the leaf margins- are improving.
So with any luck, by the end of the month, all evidence of me making an ass of myself over the stupid well water mistake will be destroyed... up in smoke mwhahahaha!!!
And then... it's time to go play in the water. I bought some big chunks of white plastic with a Botanicare stamp on them... hmmm... wonder what those might be? :D

Don't worry, I'm never going strictly to hydro. Well, never say never, but since I keep so many mothers of so many strains, I need to keep the capacity to flower 'retired' ones in soil or soilless somewhere in my room. I've got 2400w of bloom room to fill... to me, that says 4- 2x4 hydro tables and up to 12 soil plants in 3 gallon pots.
Eventually you, too, will go to at least a SOG style grow under your LEDs, which I'll betcha dollars to doughnuts will up your yield. It's only a matter of time ;)

Well, a big box of Donkey Dicks just rode off into the beautiful sunset of a New England 4/20. They are destined for somewhere outside, which I will never see, but trust they will be well cared for! I haven't got the nuts to want to be sitting on all those excess clones!
Meanwhile, I still grow in my little hidey-hole. And I got some pics of what my plants are looking like now that they have been getting more calcium in their diets...
The frosty single-cola is a PPP
The purple single is a RushMan's Toxic Lemon
The others are the purple/grape/smaller pheno of the Yeag's Kenai Thunderfuck line. If a plant could smell purple, this one does. It simply OOZES purpleness.
The last one just shows scale. It's a single cola plant in a 1 gallon pot about 1-2 weeks to harvest. Pic quality=blech.

That one is probably not even within 2 weeks yet. This is my first formal run of anything CLOSE to a correct Sea of Green (or Sea of Purple as it were), so predictions are going to be funky. I'm expecting close to a zip off that plant when I'm done, but more like a half a head on the lower yielding strains.

It's darn near midnight, and as I've spent the past couple of hours reviewing your enlightening log, I feel I must leave a praise-filled reply. You have shown me many beauties I never knew existed. From the cannamel to the purple beauty a few pages back. I am enraptured and enthralled. I just began my first grow not long ago, and I know I have a long way to go; but, I had no idea how far until I encountered this log, which has a bit of everything.
I sort of lost my way from the original Donkey Dick - how are they doing? Are there going to be reports from the clones that are making their way to the outdoors? I hope for your sake they live up to their name, but I have a feeling based upon some of the pictures from this log which testify to your skills that you could coax a donkey dick out of my Mighty Freeze.
Thanks for all of your thoughts and experiences explained so well in this log, as well as the contributions you have elicited from other experienced growers within this log. I plan on returning often.
Be good up there, amiga!

Thank you Jakez. The log has certainly strayed. The Dicks are doing okay, despite what a complete chaotic mess both my grow and by life are lately. I may never see the finished outdoor ones, but I should be able to get access to a few being grown out by friends for photography purposes, and will certainly try to remember to bring it up when next I see them. I do have a couple still flowering, and the seed backup run has yet to be done, so that should be fodder for a couple more pages.
Thank you again- all of you- for the kind words and encouragement.

HI there stinky, from Canada! Girl, you do NOT know the affect your logs and input on this site has had. I have posted to you before but must again, just to let you know the impact you do have with your wisdom.
From reading your straight foreward, informative logs and educating myself on many sites I truely admire and repect your work. You lay it out clearily and explain the science behind it so people can then go on and make their own conclusions, understanding what it is about. That is invaluable.
I have now great plants and more. I found my home at Green Passion. Yes, sorry, it is another site, dealing with med mj. I never expected the universe to bring me to this point. Without your teaching I would not be where I am today. I am now a mod on the above site. This is a more reserved site for us old pot heads. Not the size of this one, but a large family dealing with issues producing our needed medicine. NEVER would I of expected this outcome. And I have to say, girl, it is in a large part to your credit. I have learned sooooooo much from reading about your work. It taught me that there is a place for us women and that we can contribute in a large way in this fight to legalize our meds. This has changed my life and given me a cause to help many with. And a purpose beyond just my little grow.
So as chaotic as your life might be right now, I must call you a friend and give you props. And don't ever forget what a big contribution you have made, without even knowing it. You are a legend.
And most important,
I must say,
THANK YOU STINKYATTIC! You ROCK!

I hope I can find you here. I have plans to send those W/F buckets to NJ and when they leave I will look like this guy:D:D:D
I hope to do beds like tranoble they will be built and flowers in by Tues. 4x12 with 3 1000's LR Bell and Washington's exactly like his set up. I cut over 100 clones today I put them into the EZ in less then 1 Hr. That machine is just that EZ I have had a 100 percent Ratio. I absolutely love it I think anyone can clone with that machine.
Anyway I was hoping you could help me with a good soil mix. I was going to go to LOWE'S and P/U ProMix they have 3.3 Cubic for $7.00 and then they have 40Lbs humus for $1.89. I used these soils in my personnel garden outdoors and they had WORMS in the humus. Shouldn't the soil be processed? The soil is already balanced out @6.8 w/ the mix.
Well I have plan to document this last one all the way through to see if Tranobles theory of 3Lbs a light is infact true. He did work for A/N and a hydro shop his thread seems really good maybe to good to be true.... FINGERS CROSSED..
With his feeding he never mentioned a flush or just regular water feedings. Do you think it is possible to feed that much with very limited flushes (Hydrozyme Clearex) Or any flush solutions? What do you think could be the most aggressive feeding schedule for that type of medium W/O Perlite using GH W/ other NUTES like Mother Tea Carbload B1 Flora Nova and Voodo Juice.
Just hoping to pick your brain a bit.
Thank You for all your help Stink GL420:jointsmile::jointsmile:

Chrissy- tracking, tracking!
GreenLeaf- Worms in bagged soil are totally fine, desirable actually, in your outdoor garden. Indoors, if you can't guarantee no pathogens, stick with that promix, but remember... POT UP EARLY AND OFTEN- read the sticky in basic about continuous canopy, and the embedded FAQ link about pot size and soil chemistry.
I am not sure how Tranoble's buds tasted; you will have to experiment with your particular nutes, strain, and schedule to see how much flush you need. With an organic nute (not FF; I 'm talking one of the brown ones that smells funny), you can often get away with no flush.
If your goals are huge yields, and flavor doesn't matter that much, fert almost to the point of scorch for as long as you want. If you are concerned with flavor, a good flush at the end, or a fully organic nute, are your best bets.

You should see them now. :(
I'm going to visit them today but when last I saw them, they had been without water in 100'F heat for a couple days. I drenched them, killed the lights, hung a 13w CFL desk lamp in my mother room and killed 1400w of the total 2400 in flower. I expect to have lost genetics in this heat wave. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but the current crop is not salveageable... 2400w worth of plants, most within 2 weeks of harvest, to be processed into cannabutter. And there is an infestation of the winged instar of carpenter ants that is going to require an exterminator to combat. So everything is getting chopped, and I'm salvaging as many of the mothers as I can, but I don't have high hopes.
It's like the End of Days, all going on in my grow spot. All we need is a couple guys on funny-colored horses to come trotting up and announce the Apocalypse, and I'll be ready to throw in the towel.

Lol- these ants are SO BIG- like 3/4" long- and they have chompers like I've never seen on an ant before. They HURT when they get mad that you are trying to brush them off your skin, clothes, hair...
I like the camo horse idea.
I'm saving the moms that are still alive and stashing them somewhere safe for the summer, and turning all the incompletely-flowered stuff into butter, and ultimately, caramels.
Lol if we allowed seed swaps I'd be all over that one! I'm intrigued by autoflowering. But not enough to pay $$ for seeds, lol! Plus I don't have anywhere to grow them :( Bummer all around.

I will find out tonight what the loss came to. I just talked to an expert who assures me that unless they were killed down to below the first node, it IS possible to recover them as if they are revegging harvested stumps. I know my harvest is toast though. Good enough for personal use, but aesthetically akin to the dented apples they sell to cider mills for short bucks. I won't want my friends to see the buds, lol... here! HAve a joint! No, there's no buds around, I rolled these 50 joints before you came over. :wtf:
lol Yeah it's been an adventure from day one. If it's not an angry ex with an emotional problem kicking down my door, it's heat, or cold, or floods, or shitty well water, or any of a HOST of other scourges.
What do we learn from all this? Plan to fail. Plan to fall down, hard. Practice getting back up.
Make every new grow space immune to the problems that you faced in the last one.
Eliminate factors you can't control.
Don't count the chickens before they hatch.
Always have another option; a safe spot to store valuable genetics should the need arise.
Back up your shit.
Put money aside for emergencies- a portable a/c STARTS at $300 for the no-name one, as I just found out. A good can fan will run you $200. First/Last/Security will hit ya for $2k and up, depending on where you live. And your time isn't free, either.
But most of all, don't give up out of frustration.

WOW I'm sorry to hear of the loss I hope the expert is coming by to help did you teach him to LOL;)
I know we all would if we could come by to help!!!
You have helped us all so much and then the Teacher gets caught up with crazy issues.. So So Sorry.:(
Stink I remember I think it may even be in the beginning of this thread. The 5 days darkness. Before you put the plant outside can send it into Immediate flower? Maybe I just misunderstood or I have a Gorilla Experiment that's going to happen....
With the whole soil I think I will go with the PRO MIX and but a few bags of FF Worm Casting or Oceanic but not to much to the Mix....
I know what you are saying about not counting your eggs before they hatch. I feel like the guy in my AVATAR W/ all the probems going around. Yield what is that if the grow does not finish well I hope god blesses us all this time around....
stinkyattic
06-11-2008, 07:49 PM
You can put it in the dark for 4 days, and if the day length outside is already short enough (that's why Aug 1st is a good date), yup! It will flower right away.
The expert taught me. He is one of the most generous people who I have ever been lucky to count among my friends. He's the one who walked me through my learning curve when it was on the ugly side, lol! You got a question, name the topic- Plants of virtually ANY species? No prob! Electronics issues? Wanna retrofit an antenna to your laptop to steal wireless from an office building 3 blocks away? Sure, I'll bring the soldering iron. Need the name of a song by some obscure 80's punk band? Right on it. Why is Dick Cheney the Antichrist? Let me tell you a campaign funding story... And on it goes.
If you add worm castings, add some extra perlite- worm poop holds water like a mofo and will really change the feel of your soil. For every gallon of worm castings you add, also add a big scoop (maybe a quart?) of perlite.

You guys are NOT going to believe this. NO LOSSES. NONE. ZIP. The plants that looked like olive green dishrags on a stick survived. I lost a couple males, but I had them backed up as cuts at another location.
CC- No one sells on this site  but I hear ya. I keep the 'ugly nugs' for myself. Only the pretty ones ever see the light of day. Stinky gotz a reputation to uphold, son! Hahaha. And even if you have to write it on a sticky note and stick it to your other half's forehead... Until your variables are 100% within your control, you canot predict yield. Or even a successful harvest. By variables, I mean water quality, electrical supply, fuel supply if you run a generator, availability of ferts that you need, temperature, everything. Hell, let's all get together and buy a missile silo underground and stockpile a decade's worth of fertilizer and build a surface wind farm and rainwater treatment plant... even then, I'll bet there would be SOMETHING to go wrong.
I remember when your keyboard was broken, lol. That was more entertaining for the peanut gallery than it was for you, I'll bet...

Hound, diatomaceous earth is already banned in the Great White North Eh because it's a serious lung irritant and can cause permanent damege (silicosis I think?). I assume perlite is the exact same issue. It's nasty stuff and you should ALWAYS wear a dust mask when handling it, plus I keep a spray bottle handy to wet it down and reduce dust while mixing media, after suffering a horrible upper respiratory tract infection a couple years back that I traced to a media mix that included bat guano, mycostim, and perlite.

It's made from expanded valcano rock and they are saying that it's pretty carcinogenic, that leaches into the plants, and also when you inhale the dust:wtf: Yeah lets all do a line of perlite:wtf:
They expect us to replace it with vermiculite.

Leaches INTO the plants? Pish posh. I'll buy that for a dollar, and the Brooklyn Bridge too! I love government agencies soemtimes... But yeah, as an inhaled carcinogen I would be worried.

Four good lessons learned....once again I wish I'd seen this 2 months ago.
-toothpick thing. I did not do anything and the top cm or so is dark brown. Should I trim that and treat with toothpick now?
- I know it depends on strain, lights, nutes....TLC and probably five other things I haven't learned yet...but in a round about sort of way...after you did these clones about how much time until switch to flowering mode?
- when I topped/ cloned the plant I took the whole and did not split it. Now two weeks later there are roots but the thing has only grown out, not up....is it possible/adviseable to split the thing in half now?
- I really like those square pots!!
ahh...the evolution of learning!

Totohpick- it's not NECESSARY and once your plant has healed, don't mess with it. There's not a huge chance of damage to the plant or disease if you don't, but I just like to be super safe since I know there is a lot of mould about.
Flower after cloning- I like to switch to flower when the clones have rooted and the mothers have recovered. Both of these things conveniently take just under 2 weeks!
Split- Not necessary. That was just because of the sort of cutting I took off that plant, right at a Y to make 2 'heeled' cuttings. Normally you will take a tip, and just slice it behind a node.
Square pots- I fished them out of a dumpster behind a nursery. On one hand, I got thrips. On the other, the nursery sells Rotenone. lol!

If all your veg growth is 24 hours and you switch to flower indoors...I realize the standard is 12/12....is that what you use as well? I was wondering if the plants have seen no night, and you did 4 days in darkness to trigger...if you then could go to 18 light/ 6 dark and still have flower power since it's a longer routine "night" then they've ever experienced.

yo mike,
welcome. Here (http://boards.cannabis.com/grow-faqs/) is a good place to start getting answers to the FAQs.
Yes, cloning is 'taking cuttings' or 'slips' or whatever we want to call it.

Hey stinky, i'm pretty new to the forums and have just recently completed my first grow. i am helping a friend try to fix his fucked up plants and need all the help i can get, the link is in my signature. Also i tried the "washing" the cannabutter technique i found in ur cannabutter thread and it worked wonderfully, best taste, cleanest butter i have ever made. i don't know why i never thought about it before. anyway, any advice u may have would be so awsome.

Aww Greenleaf... super skunky... mmm you REALLY want to run the stinky shit commercially? You may be nuts~ lol Hope you got a good filter! The cannabis gods just dropped the Mass Super Skunk on me recently, and as much as I want to flower out a whole run of her, I think I'm going to wait until November to finish in low temps and keep the stank down. That strain scares me lol. But damn, if it weren't for a) my own paranoia and b) board rules I'd be tickled pink to see someone run it comm scale :(
MJVB wins! Cannamel! Here's more pics! Dosage appears to be just 1 piece app. 1/2" x 1/4" x 1-1/2" Recipe is an adaptation of PharmaPharmer's large-batch:
1c sugar
1c dark corn syrup
1c WELL-WASHED cannabutter. If you skip the wash step, they taste like shit flambe.
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
Butter a cookie pan with sides, preferably a nonstick one. Flat cookie sheets do NOT work!!!!!
Ideally you will work in an enamelled-cast iron saucepan.
Melt butter in a large, HEAVY pan with the corn syrup and sugar. Bring to boil over LOW heat stirring const, and boil for 4 minutes.
Remove from heat, stir in milk, return to VERY LOW heat, and bring to 245'F while stirring constantly.
REmove from heat, whisk in flavorings.
Pour into pan.
Allow to cool undisturbed until fully set.
Cut into whatever size and shape you like, and immediately wrap each piece in waxed paper.
Preferably, you should always make candy on cool DRY days. Wear LONG SLEEVES. This stuff will cause severe burns as it bubbles and pops during the final heating.
Stinkyattic,
How does one wash the cannabutter? I'm definitely gonna make some of these babies this fall. I just started following some of you old posts/logs. you rock.
