your opinion about thc and pregnancy

I am curious what your opinion is about using weed during pregnancy.
I have lupus and migraines. I use weed to combat symptoms that are caused by the lupus. Weed helps me with many different symptoms such as; nausea, pain, depression, lack of appetite, insomnia, stress, and a few other things i havent had time to discover yet. I am considering trying to get pregnant and i am sure you are all aware that trying to find unbiased information on the use of marijuana during pregnancy is next to impossible.I have 3 books about marijuana, but nothing conclusive. I began smoking weed the 3rd week of december and i use it medicinally. I have never been pregnant and i am unsure what to expect, but of course with my health issues i need to take extra cosideration of the possibilities. I havent decided where i stand, but at this point, my perspective is , if I am in need of weed and it is available, i will have some for relief. So, what do you think? :confused:

I can only tell you I have never seen (anywhere) any reports that prove thc to be detrimental to fetal development. It comes down to the good outweighing the bad. Sure smoke is not good for you, Neither are prescription meds. If you are using medically there is a reason for it just as there is a reason for your presciption drugs. Like anything, moderation is best.

Well... just to be on the safe side. I wouldnt smoke weed during pregnancy. But then again I am a guy. So I guess what I am saying. If my wife/gf was pregnant. I wouldnt want her to smoke weed. Just to play safe.

My girlfriends bio teacher says that smoking weed will not hurt a baby most likely as long as the mother smokes no more than two joints a week... just dont do it during the first four months cause thats when the organs develope and weed can fuck up your baby

I'll agree about the cigs, but not quitting both. I am not a dumb ass by any means and I smoked a little pot through all 3 pregnencies. All of my kids have been conceived while I was most likely stoned, too. They are all fine. Like someone else said, it's all in moderation, just a bowl a day or so. My mother smoked throughout her pregnancy, and I turned out to be perfectly healthy with none of the claimed side effects like low birth weight (9 lbs) or problems with mental development (many many people have told me I'm one of the smartest people they know). So at least for me and everyone else I know whose mother smoked during their pregnancies the claims don't hold up.

But that is'nt my decision or the question at hand. I think you should hold back on smoking for the first 6 months atleast, just to be safe like others have said. And thats when growth and development primarily takes place. Because your kid is forever. So the question is; Which ones more important to you, Weed or your childs health?

BTW My mom smoked with me, and I'm 14, 6'2", 150 lbs, little on the scrawny side but my growth and development is fine and I get B+'s and A+'s in school.But that does'nt mean it will run that smoothly for everyone

I'm pretty sure most people missed complications to the question. I am physically ill, mild depression comes from having an incurable disease that has already taken a lot of good years from me. I hope you can understand that most of my problems are physical, not majorly mental. And i use weed for relief from my medical issues... not solely for pleasure. I know i need to weigh the pros and cons, i'm just hoping that all of your opinions will help me develope a firm position... so if i do decided to smoke while pregnant, for whatever reason, i can feel confident that i have made the best decision with the information i could find about the subject. I really appreciate all your input about the matter... i will take questions or comments from anyone who wishes to participate. thank you ;)

Feb-17-2005 06:03 please take a second look at the info i gave regarding my situation... i know you mean well for the baby, but the point is that, yes my heath is poor. Yes it is a personal decision to have a baby. Unfortunately, i am limited in what i can do in life, it sucks big balls, i dont mind saying that, because i am not happy about being ill. Having a baby has been a goal for me, as it is for a lot of people, and having a baby may be one of the few things i can do with what i have been given in life.... and with what time i have left, could be a couple of years, could be 40 years, but i cant wait much longer to decide. My husband is older and already nervous about the risk involved with being pregnant, not just having a baby. I could die as a result of pregnancy, that is a risk i am willing to take. I know that i have to be the one to decide if the risks outweigh the
rewards. I guess i am just thinking out loud... By the way, I dont smoke
cigarettes, so that is not a problem to quit that habit. I havent been pregnant or used weed while pregnant...so that brings me back to the original question. so , once again... thank you for ALL the responses, even negative ones... that is why i asked. i dont just want someone to agree with me, i want valid perspectives to either solidify my veiw, or maybe change it... i'll let you know. thank you. wow you are in a very difficult situation.
I also take weed for medical reasons and I also became pregnant after trying for many years unsuccessfully so I knew it was my only chance and I did smoke weed for about 5 weeks, then I found that it actually made me too stoned to cope with the changes I was going through, I was also under tight scrutiny from the urgent care unit as I had misscarried a number of times, I did not have bad morning sickness or anything but I am glald I stopped while I was pregnant as it was in the end a complicated birth my waters broke at 26 weeks and i was beddridden for 5 weeks and he was delivered by C section at 7 months he then spent only a few days in intensive care but he had to wear a monitor across his chest 24/7 for 9 months as he would sometimes suffer from sleep apnea( when the baby forgets to breath in his sleep) which was very nerve wracking and now I am glad to say he is a healthy enourmous 2 year old but every time something threatened his life when he was inside me and new born I questioned if there was anything I could have done to make this not happen and no matter what people said to me I felt awful and would have stood any amount of personal pain to make his situation better he was so tiny.
My medical condition was not as serious as yours so I cannot blame you for considering the possibility of needing relief while you are pregnant but also I worry about the child as it is really hard work and more complex then I ever imagined. I would try not to smoke but if you are in serious pain take just enough for the relief you need to carry on and no more....you will have help and you may find your resolve is stronger then you think.

I also did not take any drugs or smoke, of any kind after he was born as I was breast feeding him (express with a pump t then a bottle) but after 3 months I stopped using breast milk and started smoking again (not around the baby)
and we are both fine.

Ask your Doctor! I did, his reply weed has the same effect as cigs (Low birth weight) and I smoked with my first PG the entire time. I have a problem much like MS and it helped me! I have a healthy 13 yr old son, my daughter is 5 and I smoke a few through my PG but was very ill and the weed did not help.

I know many ladies who have smoked pot and had healthy babes. I would NOT forget to ask your doc about it, as they get new info, but thats what they are there for!

TRUE! I found a artical when PG with my last that said babies in the womb are much calmer and that they have less trama when the birth does come! Also they said babes who's moms smoke pot are calmer and develop better!
