Well yesterday it was like 60 and sunny here so I thought I'd go for a mid winter ride. After warming up the bike and riding around lightly for 30 minutes the motor blew in the middle of a mild acceleration at only 6000rpms(red line is 13500) it died smoke everywhere, huge amounts right out the exhaust and oil sprayed everywhere. While I have yet to take it apart to find out exactly what happened, I do not think I will continue to invest in this bike, never thought the 2008 season would end in January ha.

It was a 98 ZX-7R had fresh oil just been serviced, carbs sync'd, sparks the works. I warmed it up right, slowly worked back into it and wasn't even ridin it hard when it went. I bought the bike several months ago and put about 1200 miles on it since then and I am thinking it has more or all to do with the care given to it before it came into my life.

I haven't decided what exactly to do with it but as much as it hurts I think I may have to just part it out.

Is this common for those types of really fast bikes? I am no biker, or have any knowledge on them, but if you do everything right and it blows like that, it seems a bit impractical.

My heart goes out to you man, I am real sorry for your bad luck with your bike.
My 79 Honda CBX uses the alternator from a 98 ZX7R.

Nothing but Kawasaki for me thanks, I really cant stand the other bikes, riding them I mean, I like the look of the Hondas. And Kawasaki has now boosted fastest production bike from suzuki so now the hayabusa is just a really ugly 2nd fastest production bike lol

I am back up and running, same bike but now she's kawi green with phosphorescent pigment and green pearl so she is looking good to match how perfect shes running.

Im so jealous of the kinds of bikes you guys are talking about, just got my first ride its a 1984 Yamaha that's only 100cc, looks mean for what it is. Im falling in love, and not just cause it vibrates pleasantly against my crotch

hey just enjoy the bike! I started with a honda Cb750 loved that bike.

100cc is still fun.

look at the kikker 5150 and see if its available in the UK its a fun little bugger. (country talk not UK talk as i think bugger means something else in UK) figured a clarification as its a forum and my southern draw doesnt sound anything like UK english

Junior, I'm happy for you that you got your bike running again. That being said, as far as the negitive rep you left me today, for a post that was made a year ago, your out of line. But I'll make you a deal....If you promise not to get emotionally involved, you can kiss my ass.

SD6515 what's up are you pissed about the motor's need attention comment? I don't think Steve meant anything mean by it.

Rep comments are subject to the same rules as the forum so you can't call people names in the comments.

Mississippi Steve, you know better than to respond in kind when flamed.

Come on, it's Memorial Day weekend everyone chill a little.

Now, what was wrong with your bike.

Sorry FBR my back's been acting up after surgery real bad, it's no excuse but it's kept me a little edgy especially about taking care of my motor when I rode it around as a "junker" b/c I spent all my money getting the entire thing overhauled the day I bought it before I ever even rode the thing, then again after the wreck, only a true moron would spend there time and money making something look good before making it something worth looking good.

My bike still had some problems after the wreck that my mechanic didn't notice for some reason(that's why I ussualy do all the work myself, but I wanted to "make sure it was done right, that worked out lol), like oil in the wrong places from being flipped, weird part was she ran great after I got it back and then over 700 miles later oil was coming out of everywhere, it was the first time I really got on it though, but this time I did all the work and know she is running perfect. Now I'm just waiting to get a little cooperation from the weather and have a day with no rain or high humidity so I can finish the clear and get back to riding. I will get pics up when she's done, probably Sat or Sun. It has come out perfect so far so the last thing I want to do is put on the final layer of clear with 100% humidity, I hate buffing and polishing out so I'd rather wait for the right weather and lay it down perfect so I have to do little to no finish work.

I just realized I apologized to FBR and not you Mississippi Steve I've just heard it over and over and it gets real old real quick when you do spend so much time and money on the motor and always the motor first, but my bad indeed, I hope you can accept my apology; my sensitivity to that and my pain affecting my mood are not things that should be taken out on others and I am sorry for what I had said.
