A friend of mine works for this electrical company. He has street lights with the ballasts that he can get ahold of. Now I do not know what kind of lights these are, i've tried to look them up. I even found a website about the history of street lights. Its either Mercury vapor, mhs, or hps. Once I can find my digital camera I can get some pics. The bulb says L400 on it or something similar to that, so maybe its 400 watts? Either way, I can get atleast 3 of these with the reflectors so I cant wait to wire theses up n possibly use them if they're the right type.

Nah, hes 18, works for his fathers company. He doesnt know much about lighting, he mainly does the pipe work for putting the electrical lines in the ground. Hes not really allowed to give them to me so thats kinda why.

An HPS can look like almost any other type of light. See could he check out the lights spectrum. Also, you gotta match the HPS lamp to an HPS bulb.

I have the bulb now, google does the trick ;). General Electric: Lucalox LU400 ... Google came up saying this is a 400W HPS Light... Wow, by wednesday i'll have three of these basically free. I think the bulbs are bad but bulbs are cheap... heh, this is better than all my fluros and mercury vapor. :D
