Whats up everybody ,
We've been redoing quite a few things in our room since our last grow finished in hopes of bettering the use of light , control of temps. , and lovering the "God Awful" electric bill . :)

1- We got rid of 1- 630 cfm blower that was running through our cooltubes = 1260 cfm through the pair was way overkill .

2- Got rid of 1- 449 cfm blower and carbon scrubber in favor of a new space / energy saving VaporTek 4000 that "Bluebear" posted about ages ago .

3- Added a much much larger 950 gph suleaves airpump to feed the 4 DWC airstones . = 240 gph air through each stone verses 40 gph last grow . Using backflow valves for safteys sake now too . Better a lil restriction than die from electricution .

4- Changed the style of airstones in favor of the type "Deftdrummer" uses too .

5- Added 6in. of insulation , 2 layers of 4mil. plastic sheeting , and shower surround material to the ceiling . 3.5 in. of insulation , 2 layers of 4mil. sheeting , 1/2 drywall and flat white paint . Venting through the walls is trick = darkroom vents outside / soffit vents inside , w/ steel collars joining them in the wall so no moisture etc... can ever get to the insulation . Part of which was "PharmaCans" idea .

Both ballasts are ceiling mounted outside the room so less possibility of interior room heat issues .

A wall mounted therm. / rheostat that can measure interior / exterior hum. and temps w/o ever opening the door . It'll also tell you the highest / lowest recorded temps and hum. in the last 24 hrs .= badass for $11.00 .

All air passing through the cooltubes is prefiltered via. a pleated furnace filter seen in the corner above the res. - cleaning the insides of dusty cooltubes is a p.i.t.a .

The room has it's own Heat / Cent. A/C run .

Exhaust is 250 cfm inductor booster fan w/ 0 restriction because they're weak by nature to begin w/ . Intake air is passive through the lower vent sys. = 9 - 4in dia vents - I'm to baked -n- tired to figure out sq. in. of passive vent space for you . 4in. / 3.1416 x 9 maybe ???????? "Rhizome" !!!!! . LOL :stoned:

The dehum. is plumbed through the wall and into a 5 gal. bucket w/ drain fitting and hose run to a floordrain . No emptying the dehum. and also eases res. changes by pumping it out right into the 5 gal. bucket right next to the res.

Huge adaptive improvements as far as ability to run the sys. myself - After a lil bit of brainstorming w/ "Rhizome" about a fellow growers op. who is also wheelchair confined . I went to work on my own sys. I can now do just about anything but raise -n- lower the lights myself . = Less fear of the "HOOK" hauling off the loved ones too .

Now to get some form of life in here !!

Sup PharmaCan ,
Click the pic containing the filter to enlarge it . Then move the arrow off the pic. and then back on it= the arrow turns into a mag/glass or crosshairs - put cross hairs on filter way over in top left corner and click = giant view .

I used 2 pieces of aluminum channel w/ badass industrial velcro type material holding them to the wall , we can slide the filter in and out and flip it too = I get 4 dif. uses out of the 1 filter - look at the dirty 6in. ring on it already just from playing w/ the system checking temps etc...

I took your advice w/ actual increased R values w/ drywall / greenboard verses the shower surround material , atleast on the inside walls - not the ceiling though .

If I can get 4 lbs. or better out of the next cycle and can afford somemore down time were gonna sheet the exterior cinderblock walls - frame them , insulate em , sheet em again , and hang drywall/greenboard on them too to help w/ temp control like you said .

I feed off all you guys , try to use the site like I used to O/G = like a big ass "Think Tank"

Theres a little bit of Stinky , Weedhound , and Latewood going on inside here too if ya dig around a lil bit . Major props. to Latewood though for ingenious use of the "Pampered Chef" turkey baster for nutes - A major step towards my independence in doing the upkeep / maint. myself .

I hear great things about them on I/C Mag. = cvrs stink from 30-50 5 gal. dwc buckets . Bluebear got 1 and loves it . I'll let you know in 2 mos. when were flowering and theres reason to use it bro. It's cartridges are resealable too so 1 cartridge is good for 2 grows .

Thanks for the kind words Trynagethigh - Never thought my hobby would produce a room / crazy system like this man . I'll post more pics. later today - we added 3/4" in. return lines and valves so the system can recirculate at a full 120 gph . Stuffs crazy huge - looks like PlaySkool / FisherPrice down there now . Whats up ppl.

1. - Back w/ some pics. of the actual system w/ the larger 3/4in. return lines - due to slow recirculation last go round I had the beginings of root rot in 1 bucket = roots plugging lines up . Also the water temps were not as low as I liked . Now the system recirculates a full 120 gph. like the pumps rated for . Full system exchange 6 times an hour now . We added some cool clamps on the larger lines to prevent any pos. floods too .

2. - A pic. of old / new plumbing parts for comparisons sake .

3. - Hydro is gonna be a winter sport here from now on . I gotta keep touch w/ my dirtself . The 6 dirt plants are in cfl limbo
at the moment.

4. - 1 of these dirt plants may end up being a keeper Cottoncandy mix mother plant . In order from left to right =

Cottoncandy - Cottoncandy - Weedhounds Ind. mix.

Nexus - The Church - Ghetto Ind. Bagseed .

Were germing a bunch of others now trying to get 4 sprouts that turn me on for use in the hydro buckets but lotsa twisted leaf Blueberry nonsense is going on w/ Dutch Passion beans. Won't do biz. w/ them again . :)

QWIDGYBO - Co2 ?? Don't need the headaches or added maint. I do just fine w/o it . :D Im burnt like you couldn't even imagine bro. and have absolutely nooooo desire to have a propane powerd gizmo up in my house , and repeated trips to get tanks filled draws far to much uneeded attn. to myself . I have a hard time smokin everthing I grow as it is . :stoned:

Im betting 4 lbs. this next grow . 4 hydro , 5 dirt , and keep the prettiest Cottoncandy as a mom for clones for next summers dirt grow . I have a filty nasty feminised seed habit I'm trying to break . :)

Some new pics.
Had to turn on one of the 1000w. finally because the dirt plants were stretching for the weaker 250w. The hydro plants should have some roots in the nutes real soon and take right off .

room temps w/ 1000w - 71 deg
leaf surface temps - 75 deg
nutes are up around 300 ppm.
ph = a steady 5.8

Hey Pdoub. ,
There is an awful lot of info. on my set up and others in the threads below . Please read these links first , if you still have questions = I'd be happy to help . The entire reasoning , concept , abd part numbers of pump etc... are in Bluebears thread , I kinda helped Doco w/ the recirc. of his system . It's hands down the most important upgrade I've made so far . = equal ppm / ph in all cells , and reduced nute/water temps greatly for me .

PdoubleOTY - MVP

Here's a cpl. pics. of the mechanics of my system, and of the system recirculating .

The res. is 20 gallons , It's aireated w/ a dual outlet aquarium pump and 2- 6in. airstones . And it's always recirculating unless were checking PH / PPM .

There's about 12 - 13 gal. in the room , and 7-8 in the res.

The larger waterlines = water returning into the system from the res. via. gravity.

The smaller waterline = water from system being pumped back into the res. using a "Via Aqua 302" adjustable pump rated at 120. G.P.H .

Once a day you shut the 2 valves outside the room next to the res. in the black catch pan - the pump will take all the contents of the system and return it all into the res. for PH / PPM check and adjustments . Once the numbers are to my liking - just open the 2 valves and the system refills itself .

MVP - I've only dealt w/ a cpl. stores out your way . I really like the ppl. at "Texas Hydroponics" - they'll match any prices you can link them to , and the cheapest place I've seen most things is Plantlightinghydroponics.com . Wish you were closer to the East coast , The guy from "Liquid Sun" is way way cool  .

Here's a cpl. more current pics.
I managed to burn the piss outa the dirt plants and had to flush them real good yesterday and see how they recover . The hydro plants have some roots in the nutes now and are coming right along .

Reaper - here's a pic. of the algee you sounded concerned about w/ hydro .
I don't let it bother me . Once the plants are huge all the light is blocked and the algee dies . I used to use H2O2 to kill it but can't anymore as I'm using hydrogaurd now .

Weedhound - The righthand plant is W/H mix , The left is the Ghetto Ind. and both are seem to be unbothered by the nute buildup . Exactly what I need = strains that put up w/ my abuse :D

Hey Crispi,

Thx for the pics and 'splaining how it flows. I have a couple weeks to design and build my DWC recirc and I'm following the same principles as you did. I'm running a Sunlight Systems 430 HPS in a 3x3x6.5 tall enclosure. Venting with Vortex 449 CFM inline with a carbon filter scrubber in the room to treat air before expelling outside.

Gonna go organic with the Pure Blend Pro + Karma + Zone (root cond.) + a little Sweet as long as I can keep PPM where it needs to be. By the time this gets going my gal will be back in town and I'll have my good camera to start a log and share pics.

I think I might end up going with the 2.5 or 3.5 gal. buckets to save space since the 3x3 is enclosed and I hafta keep the res and buckets all inside the area. Should work fine during fall/winter here and then I'll have to modify for the damn hot summertime here in cali.

Thx again for the help bro, its more fun when I can get ideas and keep from makin mistakes... gotta make every dollar go as far as poss.

Peace

Hey folks ,
Another small improvement along the way . Our old 6 inch 250 cfm inductor fan we used to exhaust the room finally gave up after a cpl. days of howling .

We ended up w/ a 6 inch dayton 115v. muffin fan rated at the same cfm as the inductor but the muffin fan moves 2 x the air even w/ having to push open the dryer vent on the outside wall .

Finally lost a 6-7 yr old. 1000w ballast too :( so there has been a few glitches this grow . 9 of the 10 plants are girls though , they're 10 days into flower now , and have had full strength bloom nutes for 3 days now at 1350 ppm and ph between 6.1 - 5.6 .

These plant pics. are from 10 days ago
after their 1st day of 12/12 -n- lights just coming back on = droopy cold - girls . Aquarium heater in the res. now , and heater in the room -n- heatduct open for em during lights out .

Sup Gity ,
If your in your own place and can spare the room = I'd avoid the huts myself - I outgrew my 1st cabinet faster than my plants did . The hobby is contagious bro.

S.O.G - I used to S.O.G back when I was a kid . 2-1000w. , each over a 6 ft. round kiddie pool w/ 50 plants in each at about 14 grams each. 1400 grams / a hair over 3 lbs. dried -n- cured . Looks crazy bad though - huge plant count + SOG = fast money - good luck convincing a Judge it's anything but .

Also more plants isn't always more pot .

I can get 3/4 - 1 lb. per. 5 gal. bucket now in hydro and only 4 buckets = same 3 lbs. w/ alot less work and I can always cry personal use if shit ever hit the fan = "Your honor I'm a docum. MMJ user , it was only 4 plants" . :) .

Alot of questions need to be answered .
Why , Hydro , soil , number of watts , nutes , how much research have you actually done already , ever tried to grow anything before - not nesc. weed ???

Reaper - It was your design . I'm just the packrat fab. guy .:D

SFGurilla -
S.O.G ? = No S.O.G , I used to , but now I top them to increase yield and keep plant count down . This is all personal as I'm a documented mmj user .

"The cooltubes" - I love em . With 630 cfm running through them the surface temps on the glass itself only reach 90 degrees . I've had buds layin on the tubes -n- not get heat stressed/burned and they're literally only 2-3 in. away from the 1000watt bulb itself .

"How much do I plan on growin ?" = It's gonna probably be different all the time as I frequently switch strains looking for ones that work best w/ my given health issues . So far only 3 grows now in this room - this being the 3rd. and I've averaged right around 3 lbs. in 17 weeks time .

Weedhound - "Forest" . We been pretty close for a yr. now and I never told you thats my nickname . Dejavu :) And for a cpl. dif. reasons . LOL . You haven't seen my magic shoes yet . The other reasons kinda obvious . :D

Markass - "Fillin in good" = For 4 weeks in I'm pretty happy but we got lots to do when you get here thursday . :D 1st. get really broasted of course , then OCD fest. on these girls . Tuck in all the leaves we can and eliminate the ones we can't that are still blocking bud sites . Maybe some bamboo and LST on the biggest CottonCandy plant it's just shy if 6 ft. and almost touching the ceiling . -> chk the pic.

Peace folks

Xcrispi man your going to have to start doing growroom seminars.

These muffin / computer fans you guys keep mentioning are these fans pre wired or an easy wiring config. I have no problem with doing wiring but would be more comfortable if a I got an explanation of it because to my mind taking an inside case computer fan and hooking it direct to a 240V system sounds like a fire in the making.

Just make sure you purchase the right voltage fan or an acceptable adapter/converter. I'm not a pro on 120/240 conversion so that is the only issue to sort out. You might also find one like this >>

EBM W2S130 AA03 01 Muffin Fan 220V 6 inch NEW - eBay (item 290195285155 end time Jan-08-08 17:12:31 PST) (http://cgi.ebay.com/EBM-W2S130-AA03-01-Muffin-Fan-220V-6-inch-NEW_W0QQitemZ290195285155QQihZ019QQcategoryZ53302Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

on eBay that is designed for 240V power...

Hey Jack ,
The fans I have been using are 115v. to begin with = just plug and play . Weedhounds came w/ just a pigtail = so she had to splice a cord to it is all . Pretty boo boo proof - it's not right the fan spins backwards / reverse polarity . Here's a link - they're pretty cheap , I use 2 in my veg. / clone cabinet too .

AC 115V Fans (http://www.coolerguys.com/ac120vfans.html)
look through them for cfm ratings .

Yes, you absolutely did help get my recirc system setup - brilliantly simple solution for keeping the ph and nutes the same in all buckets. Mine will be back in action in new digs within just a couple of weeks. This time I have air conditioner, a water chiller, and co2 - just took cuttings from my c-99 and PPP mothers, probably do 3/3

Great to see you around Xcrispi - I get these paranoid spells where I just lurk for awhile - but I'm still here in the shadows!

Be proactive, call them ahead of time. I am moving in and have:

1. a plasma TV and lots of stereo gear
2. a salt water aquarium, heaters, pumps, lights, etc***
3. dickhead roommates that leave all the lights on at night

OK - Well how about a Pac Trac snow cat for $1,000? If I get the snowcat out of the garage I'll have more room to store my cool tubes. :D

I just measured my tubes - they're 27.5 inches. As I recall, they weren't horribly expensive - about the same as what you paid. I just replaced all my cool tubes with Daystar reflectors. I wasn't happy with the way the c/t's direct light - too much going off to the sides instead of straight down. Maybe you don't notice since you're down low, but the c/t's in my cab were eye level with me and they really glare out the sides. So now the plants are getting more light and it's a lot easier on my eyes to work on the plants.

Hey Doco ,
No screens on the 3/4 inch fittings . I tried it once w/ the green flood table fittings = bad deal . the 1/2 in. I.D of the fittings was reduced down to 3/8 in. I.D and plugged up , roots grew into screens too .

The only prob. I've had using the 3/4 fittings was the system recirculates so fast that the entire rootball gets pushed to 1 side of the bucket and slows the rate in which the pump bucket gets refilled at so we had to slow down the lil via aqua pump to about 50-60 % . We spin the buckets 90 deg. every day , or lift em up part way just incase roots are indeed growing into the fittings .
Peace Bro.

Shit finally got my Internet hooked up!!!!!! That pic of the entire plant is nice.

Is it the nature of that strain not to be filled with fan leaves or do you prune a lot off? My shit is outta control with fan leaves, but I only prune leafs under the canopy that are dying. I have enough room. I have 4 plants centered 2 foot square to the center of a room 5x6x7. Gottem in 5 gallon buckets sitting on a small stand, drain in the bottom that goes to shared res. have lines from res to plants with a few drip stakes for each. I am also at about 5 weeks flower using latewoods GH 3part formula.

Hey Pete I thought you bailed outa here too , long time no see. :D

That room of yours has gotta be pretty damn full man , like just enough room to get in and work ? I have really good results w/ Latewoods recipe man . I even use it dilouted in my soil plants .

If it's the purple plant your referring to in regards to fan leaves , it had crazy long node spacing to begin with , and yes if the leaves couldn't be tucked in to expose budsites they were removed . I was mean this grow . Your seeing now that there's tons to spare . Image Reaper freaked out his 1st hydro grow after 40 yrs. in dirt and asked me "what was up w/ all the extra salad" . :D Fan leaves galore .

how is the vaportek working?

Evertking - The vaportek is up to 8 of 10 now and kills way more smell than my carbon scrubber ever did . Uses lots less elect . / and takes up way less room too .

I think part of the reason my scrubber doesn't work as well is all the moisture getting trapped in the porousity of the carbon and plugging it up because of us doing hydro . If your doing dirt , a scrubber may be just as effective as the vaportek for you ?

Holler bro.
