I went out yesterday to grab a 400 HID light, with an air cooled hood and a MH/HPS ballast. The whole set up only cost around three hundred. This is a purchase Iā??ve wanted to make for a long time. No more growing in parks and getting ripped off, and no more small plants in the garden behind the tomato plant. Its time to get busy.
I already have the most general knowledge of growing cannabis, and have been fine tuning things for a few months with an ultra stealth outdoors grow.
Iā??ve been doing a little reading on mixing soils too, I know my mix may not be the best, but for a first time indoors, I think its okay. Maybe Iā??ll change it up pending some of the more experienced growerā??s advice.
In my buckets and pots I have
Bone mean
Perlite
Vermiculite
Composted cattle manure
Two different kinds of soils: one is very rich, and seems to be a decent soil, I got this one after the first soil I brought left much to be desired. I saw fox farms soil for the first time yesterday, and Iā??m highly interested in that.
For Water I have:
Ph adjusters (up and down)
Super thrive
Liquid Fermented mushroom (The Mushroom Stuff, to name the brand)
Generic Veg and Bloom ferts that Iā??ve used in the garden plant (and on all the plants in the garden). Iā??m thinking about upgrading my ferts when I can.
Iā??m growing in a open closet that has two osculating fans in the room thatā??s fed by fresh air outside, aided with an attic fan. Its very effective in keeping the room at a great temperature, but when money allows, Iā??d like to invest in a more long time solution. Security is not an issue with this grow.
Also, Iā??m willing to bet that this will turn into a diary more then a log. I love to grow things, and have always wanted to grow cannabis in a controlled environment. I would also love if people would comment. These plants are just bag seed, Iā??m testing out the skills before I pop my good seeds into the grown.
These babies are too expensive for me to ruin (call me stupid for paying high prices for feminized, but it just seems so right:) )
Great white shark feminised (http://www.drchronic.com/products.asp?partno=GHSFX10gws)

Cinnamon Female seeds indoor (http://www.drchronic.com/products.asp?partno=FSCIN)
Oh yeah, the plants themselves are pretty young. The ones under the MH light are at about the 4th node, the ones in the cab are still seedlings under a week.

I've noticed that. It brings the temp up by a noticeable amount, but its well managed right now. As it gets colder, i'll turn off the attic fan, and adjust the window as need be.

Not anything as much as in update, but more like a question. One of my plants seem to be a little different then the others. This (hopefully girl) plant here seems very stout. Itā??s a lot more green and short then the others. The nodes seem a little more ā??tightā? if you know what I mean. I would guess this plant is either different in type, or just wants to put as much energy into its leaves current leaves as it can, not to say it has less then the others. Its about the same.
Anyway. Growers, tell me what you think please.
The first two are the "different plant" while the last two are examples of how all the others look
Oh yeah, the ridges in the leaves seem to be different also,:hippy:

Are these pics of the bag seed? I really don't see anything wrong. But I would assume, there will be some difference between plants maybe?
Also, when I click on the pics to enlarge, the pics are distorted. Does this happen to anyone else, or it's just my 'puter?

It DOES seem different.....are the leaves as droopy looking in real life as they are in the photo or am I just high? Don't know if you might want to check your ph or something.....not overwatering are you?

Harvest time all around, some pictures from the garden. Most everything is past its prime, but with the weather being steady like it has been, Iā??m sure these plants will try to surge a few more fruits off before they die.
What you'll see: green Tomatoes, radishes, cannabis, eggplant carrots still growing out.
Missing is watermelon, broccoli, cucumbers, carrots and a few other things I guess.
Iā??m about to hit the road, Road trip to catch a wedding. Update about the indoor garden when i get back tomorrow.
See ya! And happy fall! it starts today.:hippy:

That outdoor plant looks really good. How much longer are you gonna let it go?
Skrappie
09-27-2007, 03:16 AM
Miley, I had to chop the plant early, itā??s drying now, and Iā??ve sampled the shit out of it. It tastes great. I have a problem of mixing buds, and the outdoor plant really lifts the taste of any bud.
Here are some pictures of some fully LST plants VS some not so LST plants.
The side branches on most of the LST plants are almost as big as the non trained plants themselves.
Fun times learning about the cannabis.
Smoke on ladies and gentlemen.

09-27-2007, 03:57 AM
Sucks that you had to chop it early. How much yield are you estimating dry and are you going to cure it properly? As far as the plants looking different if its all bagseed its bound to look different. Thats not a bad thing unless you are looking for a uniform grow between all the plants. Everything looks good though.

Want a Christmas smoke, so I went out and got a HPS bulb today, put it in the light. Also picked up some fox farms organic soil, and booster and tiger bloom also. Some of the plants started to show signs of lacking MG so i threw a TBS of epson salt per gallon of water with todays watering. The plants are about 8 inches -9 inches tall/long (for the trained plants) but the train plants have side branches that are equal to the length of the main stem, some are exceeding. There are about a 3 to 4 sets of 'trying to be main' stems that look like they are taking off.
leaf mass of side branches is enough to weigh main stems down. Will take pictures soon! preferably after the MG problem clears up a little.
I also got a PH testing kit. The PH of my untreated water is almost 8.0 so i figured i needed it. it was also worth testing my water mix AFTER i added nutes and food. It threw it off more then i would have preferred. You live and you learn. Thank goodness this is a test grow.

I was getting ready to feed some of the girls (one of which i'm starting to think is a boy) and i just wanted to stress to anyone who is reading this log.
TEST YOUR PH.
I have a 5 gallon bucket of pre-adjusted ph water that always sets at about 6.5
Today I mixed in my super awesome flowering nute soultion, and my ph droped way below 4.0. I say way below because my test stops at 4.0 and it took me a LOT of ph up to bring it to 6.0, about 6 times the amount that i've ever used.
Dear fellow noob grower, if you were to have some healthy plants, and you went out and got yourself some new nutes you wanted to try, and did not test your ph (in the same situation) your plants can die.
In countless hours of pre-grow research (see years) I don't even think that i've seen PH problems like the ones i would have had on my hands if i would have just feed the plants without the obligatory second, third and sometimes even fourth ph test.:stoned:

You may notice that my girls seem a little....tied up at the moment.
I'm all about the extreme bondage when it comes to growing, I don't really care too much about growing fan leaves if ya know what i mean....
Though, they do still have, and absorb a lot of energy, so i' just tie them up in groups, and let them soak up, and give to my flowers as much energy as they can, while exposing the flowers that i crave so, to as much light as possible.
please excuse the shoe strings, :)
happy growing folks.

Back again!
Week 5 of flower.
Things look like they are starting to wrap up. I've had a few more problems (The untrained plant went hermi on me, I have brown spots on some leaves) but at this point, beyond making a small effort to correct it. I think we will be okay.
This grow has given me a million ideas for the next one. The new group are already in veg under MH. I will be doing LST on these plants for sure, but with a different plan. I will be taking the main stem all away around the pot, in a spiral, or circle (depending on veg time) and i will also clip away the fan leaves growing from the stem. I will direct the growth of the "colas in training" so to maximize the light. Having 6 main buds on one plant is sweet. I'm aiming for about 20 per plant next grow. I'm growing flowers not foliage, and i'm sure these high energy plants could put out more if given the chance.
Another lesson learned is heavy soil. I went ahead and got some pre packaged pro-mix for the second grow. I'll leave playing with the soil for when i understand a little more about how easy the roots can penetrate different substrates. Although I'm pretty sure the mix i used would have done 2 times better if it was lightened up a bit, the manure and bone meal makes for some pretty freaking thick stems. I was just too afraid to use a crap load of perlite. I now know better.
Here are the pictures, as im sure everyone is tired of reading.
see ya next week!:rastasmoke:

This is my first indoor controlled grow. Before this I used to try to grow in parks. Always got ripped off by deer. Started a plant indoors this spring, tranplanted to my garden. now growing is a huge past time. I already have things in the pot, and only one of the girls got the ax.
Growing. Freak.
How about some new pics Skrap?
Okay.
I hope everyone is doing well. I will be in posting frenzy over the next few days for sure.
Picture one. Every Growth shoot can be a Cola, Every shoot makes more shoots. This plant has 38 of them fully developed. I'm getting my hands too full. Waiting on the flowering to be done.(Grow two)
two. Some Sweet Tooth that i happened to score at a party. Two things wrong with that whole situation that shows good can come out of bad. I don't like to party. I got a good clone from a party.
three. This is what the harvested plant looks like, well after it was harvested. Please note that this plant had only 10 growth shoots. I did a really poor piss job of LST, but to be honest, I was confused as $hit my first grow.
four. And then there were four.
five. bong bong bong bong bong.
six. The First harvest so far.

Time to update my good friends of canna on my little secret.
This is once again mostly a picture update, but most don't seem to mind
I switch'd soils for this grow, and i'm put more of an effort into making the soil "alive" instead of just feeding the roots. The results are much more robust, plants. each container is like a little piece of the forest. If a leaf drops, things in the soil will decompose it. its neat. :hippy:
Also, the new set of plants are enjoying life under two suns.
These are from flowering day one mostly.
On another note, I've expanded my training knowledge on this grow. I've got degree in LST now, and i'm going back to school for topping and super cropping, so i threw a few of those pictures in there also.
Enjoy. I'll update as things progress

I re potted the sucker into something a quarter of the size and put him in there with the other males, as they belong in the cage, not my garden :)

I think i got two more males in the garden, I will know for sure in the next couple of days. I can handle 6 girls, but 5 would crush me.

I plan to update today, but i have a question that i would like to ask my fellow growers, yet another one that will be ignored by everyone.
I'm pretty much an organic grower. The life in my tea brings my ph down a LOT, after its brewed for a few days. Should I bring the PH of my tea up, or Dilute it with PH'ed water?
Last time I did a heavy feeding with a tea i got some PH problems. I watered most of my plants yesterday before the PH issue came up, then it was just bubbled fungi/nute water :)
Please review and advise.
Dutch Pimp
12-24-2007, 06:57 PM
What is the Ph of the tea? What is the Ph of your soil? What is the Ph of your runoff?
You say the tea brings your Ph down?...The Ph of what?...you must be checking something?...:D
Skrappie
12-24-2007, 07:25 PM
haha, thanks Dutch, I write in a frenzy sometimes, and really never end up saying much.
I'm specifically referring to the PH of the tea itself. The tea started off as bubbling water, and i added some mycorrhiza in there, to predigest all the goodies. It took the ph of bubbled water from 6.5 to about 4.5 in a few days. The tea is frothing so i know the little fungus is eating away and multiplying, though I'm afraid their a little too eager have messed up my ph to the point where if i water my plants with this, it will create a problem.
I'm not sure if i should just add some PH up, and adjust it to where i want before I water,
or if the mix is safe now
or i should make another feeding mix, and add like a cup full of the tea to the second mix.
Please advise.

Yup, I agree. You can't go around telling your friends and family about your grow. It's nice to have real peeps that know what kind of effort you're putting out and the proud results.

Damn Scrappie you weren't feeling no pain last night by your post!
But you couldn't be more correct. This is the only place I can go and talk about what I am doing!! Nobody in the outside world know's what I am up to not even my girlfriend!! Just me, my dogs, and you in the cyber world know. The hardest part is when some of my buddies talk shit and say they are going to grow someday and how they would do it and I have to just sit back and say nothing. Not that I don't trust them, there is just no real need for them to know.
Well hope you feel ok today Scrappie and BOL.

I have 4 plants going right now. This is day 26 i think. I will keep you guys posted as far as this grow goes. I'm planning something really special, strain, and technique wise for grow three.:hippy:
also, most shots are set up in a bud shot then plant order.

I've learned a ton of lessons this grow. I'd like to share them with you if you're willing to listen. Most of these things will become common sense as you grow, but its good to know them before hand, to avoid horrible mistakes.
Properly water. I know this sounds silly, But if you're growing in soil, there is a high possibility that you may not get all of your roots evenly moist. This is important for two reasons.
1.Evenly moist roots are happy, happy roots drink more, and that will dry out your soil quicker, which means more watering, and that translates to bigger plants.- Whew :smokebong:
2. When you water evenly you will HAVE to water to run off, thats a good thing because even you're organic, you will eventually run into a salt or PH build up related problem if you keep pumping things in the pot and not taking any of it out. Its a simple concept, It just took me a while to get it :)
I guess I should mention I think its also important to help your roots uptake water, and run as wild as they can by using LOTS of perlite if you're using soil. Yes you can grow in straight soil, and you will get smokable buds, but nothing will help you prevent problems like well aerated soil.
If you were to run into a problem it also makes it easier to flush out the icky.
When it comes to Feeding the girls, Less is more. It is and will always be easier to put something into their veins then to take it out. I'm not saying that you should under-feed, its best to stay on top of your plants needs, and avoid playing catch-up. But if there is a time when you're mixing your nutes, and you think for even a half a second, "maybe i could use a little less" I'm willing to bet you could. its NEVER going to hurt to use less then what the bottle is telling you. If i'm wrong about that, you can kick me in the teeth :yeahright:

now for the picture portion of this post. I got a little burned as you can see on some of the leaves, a good flush, and new growth is just fine, We are around day 40, got around 70% cloudy on the sweet tooth; bag seed colas are averaging from 6-13 inches. I really need to read up on revenging cause the sweet tooth i was gifted with is a keeper for sure. I can't wait for next grow. Finally going to play with good genetics, I'll post current pictures whenever i buy batteries.
man, those are really good looking plants! :rasta:

Meet the girls
First two bag seed A.
Second two. Gifted sweet tooth. she was one of them that got burned badly, though back on track after a flush, new growth unaffected.
number 5 is SGT pepper in all his glory.

Bag Seed B. Pics one and two. She is also recovered from the burn, and is starting to purple now as she matures.
Bag seed C. three. biggest plant also burned, recovered first, still has those unsightly leafs.
Thats it. They look ugly, but are doing well over all. I think i may have damaged my yield from the burn a little, but you grow and you learn.
