The most difficult for most English speaking people is words with lots of G's or some place names like Scheveningen or S'Gravenhaag.

The Dutch on the other hand sometimes have problems with the "TH" sound in English.

Easy word 's to start with are
Dank je wel ( pronounced dank yuh vel) it means thank you
Alstublieft (als tuh bleeft) it means please (literal translation would be if you please)

Translated

I used to live in Noordwijk aan Zee (it's a place in Zuid Holland or in English South Holland (aan Zee mean by the sea))

You weren't that far out man, don't be so hard on yourself.

You got the basic gist of it but the placename was unfamiliar and if you translate Noordwijk then Noord is North and Wijk is Area and of course Zee is Sea ,, so you didn't miss by far.
