So I come home from work last Tuesday for what would undoubtedly would be a routine evening in the Midwest heat.
A routine evening goes something like this:
change into comfortable clothes
smoke
wash up for dinner
eat
play with kids
put kids to bed
smoke (doorbell rings)
Here is where routine ends....
My wife tells me "that was the police at the door"
So of course I asked in a puzzled voice "Ummm why?"
Without batting an eye my wife replies " There's a man down the street barricaded in his house with guns and explosives!"
"OK you got my attention now", I said, "Who was it... really?"
Then in a slight pissed and now scared voice my wife says " It WAS the police and we need to evacuate the area!"
Well I decide this warrants some looking into, so I go outside where sure enough there is a police officer going door to door asking residents to leave and most of our neighbors out and about, packing their kids in cars and leaving. The police said that the village was setting up the community center for anyone that needed somewhere to go.
I figure this is no big deal, I mean I live in a small town, very small, I'm thinking Barney is over reacting and will calm down as soon as sheriff Andy gets there.
So after an hour or so I decide to walk back down to the scene and see what is up?.............Turns out there are four local towns with police there, the state police with a negotiator and the state SWAT team in an armored vehicle....This is fast becoming a not so routine evening.
Next an 80 year old man decides "screw the police I need my spare oxygen tank", so he decides to cut through some back yards to get his oxygen....The police pursue with assault rifles in hand, OK, the old man is alright and gets his O2 (not from his house though).
Well I'm now thinking this may be a serious situation and make arrangements to spend the night elsewhere and leave. Now, 5 hours after this all started the nut-job decides to come out peacefully and claims he was sleeping through it all.
So either the police went way overboard on a domestic call, or this guy thinks we are all stupid to believe he was sleeping for 5 hours with SWAT outside his door.
Just thought I would share my not so routine evening with ya...........:smokin:
