I've got a Dell Windows ME computer that's fucked, but I'm 99% sure it's not a virus. Since I have stuff I need on it I'm going to try taking out the hard drive, put it in a hard-drive enclosure w/USB, and run it to my Windows XP laptop. Has anybody here done this?

yeah putting it an a 2.5" usb enclosure would do the trick. or if youve got a working desktop computer u could open the case up and see if theres an available IDE cable for hard drive and just hook it to that to transfer it over

Thanks! I think I'll go with a new 2.5" usb enclosure, because I only have a laptop working right now, but I'll keep your other information handy.

...and if you purchased your computer from one of the mega-companies, use the restore disk. If not....stick in the Win CD and boot from CD. Enjoy the fresh install.

Uh...if you have a virus, reformating WILL get rid of it, along with EVERYTHING else. So it might be a hardware issue...

probably is a hardware issue if the monitor is "blank" on boot-up.

is your video card working properly?

Um... just clean out your hard drive man. Cant really explain how to do it though.. You have to mess with the little jumpers on the back of your hard drive.. Or wait is that to switch over from slave to master or vise/versa...? Either way i still think thats correct. Try it out man. It'll get rid of everything on your computer, but if you want it back badly enough you will try it.
