View Full Version : flaws in your own system...

well there's plenty of people willing to point out flaws in the rival systems... (i.e. wii, ps3, 360) but what about the system you own? what flaws or dislikes have you found in them? (and don't say nothing, it's got to be 100% literally impossible to make the perfect system..)
the main flaw i've found in ps3 thus far, lies in the controller... the internal battery is fine, the signal is fine... it's with the l2 and r2 buttons.... they're so damn sensitive, the slightest touch makes it register that you pressed it... so you can't even really rest your finger there to be ready, because you're always ending up pushing it...
as example, in resistance, r2 is used to change/select weapons... i've not had 10 minutes of game play yet where i haven't accidnetly changed my weapon 3-4x, usually at the most crucial point, in the middle of a heavy shootout...
it is rather annoying at times....
also the heat could be a real problem if you don't have the addon fans, it does seem to get rather hot... i highly recommend investing the 30-40 on the fan set up (depending on which one you get) if you get a ps3...

I have an XB360 and honestly, the only flaw I can find isn't exactly with the system, but with the game development.
I play mainly sports games... Madden, NHL2007 etc..
And the biggest thing that bothers me is how all of the new games utilize the thumbstick to do more enhanced maneuvers. On NHL, the right stick is now used to juke and deke as well as shoot in some instances.
The shooting motion is unnatural though. You're trying to skate around with the directional and then you have to pull back on the right stick and then push forward on it to shoot the puck. It's annoying.
On Tiger Woods, you have to pull back on the left thumbstick to draw the club back and then quickly push forward on it to follow through on the swing. Unfortunately though, it's extremely difficult to motion the thumbstick down and up and still keep it on a straight line. So you innevitably end up shanking your drive.
As far as system imperfections, I do notice that my games freeze up quite a bit. It's not dirty discs or anything like that because it even happens to new games.
I wouldn't mind if I hadn't paid 400 bucks for the system, but for that kind of money, they really need to make sure things like that don't happen. It would also be nice if they included a second controller. 400 bucks is way to much to spend on the console and one controller and no games.
Shoot, growing up, Sega Genesis came with 2 controllers and a game and never froze up the way the 360 does.

My 360 gets too many DRE's it scares me as it reminds me of the horrid PS2 experience I had last generation.
I would also like to say that the 360 headsets are far too brittle or delicate I had two of them and both of them have problems.
But that's it, it's the closest to perfect console ever. MS covered all bases, I just wish they would have ironed out the DRE and Freezing issues.

i own and love my 360 but god damn this thing have a lot of problems. the dvd drive is horrible, its most likely going to break on my here soon. as melkane said, the headsets are very brittle. i guess there is a big problem with overheating and red ring of death so much so that they extended the warranty for three years covering this. if i didn't hate the ps3 controllers so much i might of gotten that instead and waited for them to iron out these problems.

No complaints on the 360 for system flaws, but I'm ready for some better games. Bioshock, GTAIV, Assassin's Creed, ect.
I will be completely broke with a horrible GPA when those games come out!

I've had my wii for a little over a month now. And the only complaints I have are the graphics (which aren't TOO bad) and the online play or lack therof. Who the hell wants to put in a 16 digit code just to play somebody online?

My xbox 360 takes waaaay to long to load up new games that are stored on the hard drive, and heir trial games last like, 3 minutes

somebody u know atleast
ya for my wii ummm madden froze once when i was like at the end of a game (its ok that was a boring game, really easy for some reason that time) and uhhh well thats all complaints for wii except this one, which is kinda pointless, but i like to play videogames in the dark and well the controller has those LEDs at the bottom that light up and just distracts me
my PS2 sucked (when it still worked) it always got full of dust and id have to clean it (ALWAYS) and dvds skipped up and down the screen for whatever reason ('salright i got a dvd player)

The pressure switch on the original X-box (yeh, I'm behind the times) CD drawer is not sensitive enough. If you push the drawer to close it, as opposed to pushing the close button, the drawer gets worn out very quickly and has a hard time opening. And I'm disappointed with the game selection. Wish I went with a PS2 instead.

I dunno if its my 360 or my rainbow 6 vegas cd but randomly the disk will stop spinning sometimes and says it can't be read which pisses me off in the middle of online play and it pretty much happens every day. However, i simply life the disk out, put it back in and it works fine after for the rest of the day or w/e. Doesn't happen with other games i have, only once with fifa 07 but i dunno. Other flaws? mythumb slips off sometimes when playing fifa 07 coz the controllers a bit big or spaced out on the analog sticks. I love it though.

analog sticking is easy to fix... take the controller apart and cover it with baby powder, put it back together...
i've been doing that to fix stuck analog sticks since 64
do you have a lens eye cleaner? (disc with a brush on it ot clean the eye of the reader) if not you might wanna think about picking one up and seeing if that fixes the problem...

lmao thats the same reason was defiantly not gonna get a 360., the controllers are too big and heavy. and their not very comfortable to hold for long periods of time.
also the ps3 has tilt/motion sensor. and all 360ers that say its a ripoff from the wii are just jealous that their next gen console is the only one without it. :p

WTF? The 360 Controller is the best standard gaming controller created, it's layout is perfection. Too big? Perhaps you're thinking of the original Xbox 1 controller, perhaps even the Dreamcast controller. The 360 controller is an even sleeker redesign of the Xbox Controller-S that Microsoft designed for the Japanese as they tend to have smaller hands. I'm holding my Dual Shock 2 in one hand and the 360 controller in the other right this moment and you know what? They weigh virtually the same so I don't know what you're smoking about them weighing too much. It's ergonomically shaped to fit the cup of your hand perfectly, the triggers are much better than secondary shoulder buttons. Especially for games involving vehicles and/or shooting. I had a PS2 to PC adapter so I could play PC games with a controller, when I actually got behind the controls of the 360 controller I gave the adapter away and when down and bought the PC receiver for the 360 wireless controller and use it for every game that works well mapped to a controller as it's just plain superior to the DS2.
As far as motion sensing. I absolutely love it for the Wii, but all Sony did was abandon their PS3-Arang as soon as Wii's controller was unveiled and threw in a simplistic and rather useless motion sensing gimmick into it to quickly copy Nintendo (as they always love to do)
The Dual Shock and Dual Shock 2 were good controllers, though the Dpad and the left analog stick should be reversed for the Sixaxis and the R2 and L2 buttons should have been turned into triggers.

actually, ps3 controllers weigh far less then dual shock controllers... and no, the dual shock and sixaxis controller are perfection.... why would you want to reverse them when games hardly really use the d-pad?
and no, the motion sensiing is far from useless... it's much better then basing the entire damn control off of motion sensing... it ENHANCES a game experience...
the d pad went out with nintendo, sega genesis and super nintendo.... analog sticks have pretty much been the norm since... oh... dreamcast/64??
take blazing angels for instance.... you can control the pitch and yaw of the plane with just tilting the controller, while still utilizing every other button on the controller.

my mates got 360(wireless controle btw) so thats how i can give you my veiw on that.
as for comparing the weight. im holding a dualshock 2 in one hand and a sixaxis in the other and uhh guess what. the sixaxis is lighter.
so in future melkane.. think longer and harder before you write me one of your novels like that again.

and melkane i have to ask.... if you're so against sony and playstion (you've never had one good thing to say about it, and you seem to pit them against M$ and xbox nearly always) why do you continually reply to every post in this section that even so much as mentions sony or playstation? i mean you claim to not be a M$ fanboy, but you're posting and actions are really speaking otherwise....
i mean, i DO hate M$ and xbox, but i don't go into the xbox threads and point out the endless number of flaws in the xbox...

Well obviously you have selective reading as I have made some good remarks about Sony here and there (such as their game development section of the company and did I just not state in this topic that I thought the DS and DS2 were good controllers?)
You would reverse the Dpad position with the analog stick because the way the DS2 controller is held, the Dpads position gives it priority, and you just said it yourself that now days the Dpad isn't used as much (though it's still better for fighting games than an analog stick) The DS design was based off of the original PS controller and they just added the analog sticks to the bottom portion of the controller without regarding ergonmics. The natural resting position of your thumbs is where the dpad is at, therefore they should be reversed. That's what the Xbox and the 360 controllers do and it improves upon controller functionality.
So Bluntblaze, the Sixaxis is lighter than the DS2, so does that mean you are saying that last generation for the PS2, the DS2 always bugged you for being too heavy? Or does the heavy complaint only apply when it's a Microsoft or Xbox product?
A fanboy would side with one company and hate on everything else and praise nothing but its console/company of choice. I on the other hand like pretty much all facets of gaming except Sony. My bitterness towards them has no reference to any other brand I guess you could call it Anti-Fanboyism. Instead of extreme love for one particular brand, it's extreme hatred for one particular brand. Justified in my own eyes, if not in others eyes.

also last generation i had nothing to compare it to.. so no, i wasn't botherd, this generation i do. so if i was to play a game with a ds2 it would bother me as does the 360 ct its just too big and heavy.
the sixaxis is small and light.. which makes it more comfortable to hold imo.
ps can the 360 browse the internet? if so how do you get onto it?

I don't think the 360 can browse the web. At least not officially, modders might be able to. Xbox Live is a contained service and does not allow surfing of the actual internet. You only have access to downloads, demos and games and patches that are in the Xbox Live service but nothing more.
Be cool if it did. I spent 4 years browsing the web with my Sega Dreamcast (seganet dialup, then earthlink when seganet went down) as I didn't own a PC until 3 years ago.

Yeah it came with a web browser. At the time, being all I knew it was good for me, now days looking back I don't know how I managed. You couldn't download anything, and if the website was heavy in flash, you couldn't visit it, no movies or music. It was good for visiting generic message boards and looking at pics, there was a trick that allowed you to use AIM messenger for chatting. But if you were in chat, you couldn't browse.
As I said it was all I knew though, so to me it was great at that time. I got a second TV just so I could play games on my PS2 or N64, watch movies/TV and browse the web at the same time. All I really visited was gamefaqs, which loaded fairly quickly.
ah the Dreamcast, such a great machine.

perhaps you would prefer the analog and dpad switched because tha'ts how you're used to resting your thumb? i can't stand having one thumb go up straight, and the other go to the side... the way the controller is now is just perfect for me it just feels natural to me.
imo the only thing that could be done to the controller that wouldn't destroy it (and might make it better) would be putting finger groves on the back side for an even more natural feel.
and if you have said good things about sony, i apologize i don't believe i've ever seen them. if you notice tho, i apporached it in a mature fashion instead of doing the typical internet thing and saying "gtfo out you noob" or the like :p
as for the weight thing, weight has never bothered me unless the controller is ridiculously heavy (wireless ps2 controllers for instance... pretty much the same weight as the DS2, BUT that's without the batteries...)
xbox controllers just feel so strange to me.. i've not had a chance to pick up a 360 controller yet, so i can't say anything about those, but those massive xbox controllers bugged the living hell out of me... it also would leave my hand cramped after only an hour or so of play... lots of other people felt the same too, so they went out and bought the aftermarket controllers, the ones that are considerabely smaller... while it was a better fit for me, still felt weird and i still didn't like it much.

Yeah those original Xbox controllers were huge. I ran out and got an S controller the moment MS released them over here. I still have those monsters but never use them. Every newly designed controller however has made my hands cramp up something awful for awhile. I think the worst one was the Dreamcast as far as cramping goes. What it is, is muscles in your hand that you rarely or didn't use before because you never bent/moved your hand in that manner before, but as with all muscles after many hours of usage those muscles become stronger and more of them and the cramping stops. And once my hand stopped cramping I began to love the DC controller. It had a great design to it, but you just had to let your hand muscles adjust to it's odd design. The Xbox and the 360 controller took a lot of design features from the DC controller. (button layout, the triggers) but they made a few changes of their own. What shocked me, and got me to get all heated up in this topic was what was said was the "360 controller was too big" it really bugged me as like I said before it's derived from the S controller which microsoft made smaller specifically because the Japanese hated how big the original Xbox controller was. The 360 controller is small on purpose lol. But I guess if all you are used to using is a controller that's even smaller, you would think it's big. N64, Dreamcast, Xbox have all had bigger controllers than 360 however.

one thing that does bug me about the sixaxis is on the back of the ct. where your fingers rest.. just under r2 and l2, i noticed the groove has been reduced because the shoulder buttons are more of a trigger design instead of just a glued in button.

I have never run into too many prblems except when going from a PS2 controler to a different controler my hands get sore quick but I get used to it, then go back to PS2 control and it happens again.........now I just use the PS adapters, the one with the fans is nice but not for shootem up it has a delay I got four with fans we use em for racing.......just got the formula one cars on GT4 once that happens the Race is on very intence and very stratigic, when you play multi link or lan you can have teams and the game is very live.....I love that game the tracks look so real,
