So I am about to be graduating from highschool, and I am soooo excited but I am scared shitless about it at the same time. I have had a lot of problems where I live, with family, boyfriends, and friends, and I know I need to get out of here badly. I hand out with people who don't influence me for the better, and I can't wait to get away from them. I'm not going to college and I feel like I may have made a mistake. I deferred my acceptance for a year, but I don't see me going at all. I really don't have the desire to. I feel like I learn a lot by talking to lots of different people and by traveling etc... And school work has never been my thing. I have felt so stuck and powerless for such a long time that I decided to take a year off and to move out. I want to get a job as a nanny and get an apartment and to support myself, but I'm scared I might not be able to find a job. I have been looking and it's been hard. I have like 2500$ saved up which I hope will be enough to get my life started. But I am so scared I made the wrong choice by not going to college. I feel like if I had gone I would be supported by my parents and I would have a set plan. Any words of advice, I'm really freaked out to go into the 'real world'

I don't wanna sound like I'm telling you the same thing someone else would, but I have to.

Every single day, I wish I could've had that normal college life, and gone through with the experience. That's what I got for not having the desire to take school seriously. Now I'm going back to do it the hard way, doing it while working full-time.

Now it's entirely possible to be successful out of high school, but unless you got a job that have you travel places, you won't have much of an opportunity to unless you have financial support. You gotta work, and make a living otherwise. If that's what you feel, then go for it.

But while you have the chance, don't do something you'll regret a few years later.

I've taken three years off to work and save up money. I don't mind my decision, I live at home so rent's cheap, and all of my friends left for school already, which kind of sucks but also saves money because I'm not out partying all the time. Now I have over 10K in the bank and can basically coast through a year of school with a part-time job and no worries. If I don't like it - no problem, let's go work some more and maybe travel a bit.

People were always telling me that they were disappointed that a smart guy like me wouldn't go to school. Up until this year, I just didn't feel like it. It's your life - do what you want, not what people tell you to. Gut feelings are wonderful things.
