I'm a total metal head. I mean I just love metal, ever since I was 13 and discvoered metallica, then expanded to the many many bands I listen to today. In fact a couple weeks ago I went to the Megadeth/ Heaven and Hell concert in Vancouver, which was AMAZING. I mean metallica totally screwed me over not giving me the songs I wanted, but megadeth made me absolutely happy giving me the two songs I did want, Holy Wars and Trust.

Anywhoo, while I love to headbang and get a rush and all that, I find most of the time I listen to metal for quite a different reason. I find it really calming, soothing to the nerves. Death metal and black metal especially just put me into a type of trance that makes me feel great. Actually right now I'm listening to the entire Slayer album "God Hates Us All" loudly on my headphones. I've been in a terrible mood today but by the time I got to track 8 it turned into a really relaxed happy mood.

Anybody know what I'm talking about, or I'm I just crazy? Not that that's a bad thing, I enjoy this type of crazy :) .

ooh yeah, cradle of filth take me on a mental journey, especially when I'm shroomin'. That's cool you're into the metal Samwhore, you may also want to check out Amon Amarth, Dark Tranquillity, and Arch Enemy.

Have a good one:jointsmile:

I'm a metalhead till death! I've been listening to black/death/thrash/power since I was 13. I'm 14 now. Black is my favorite though. It can make me feel in tune with nature, its diverse, it can be good to listen to at night, its thought provoking, I fucking love it. Drudkh, Ildjarn, Burzum, Immortal, Unleashed, Cannibal Corpse, Helheim, Judas Iscariot, Slayer, Metal Church, Monstrosity just to name a few.

I listen to metal simple because it is the shit. Nothing beats some good tech death, or death in general. Along with black metal and grindcore

o and stay away from cradle of filth, listen to some good black metal

Power/Progressive Metal is my favorite metal subgenre. Lost Horizon, Kiuas, Communic, Pagan's Mind, Hibria, and Angra are amazing!

I use to be more into metal when I was younger.

However there's only three metal bands I'm able to appreciate.

Between The Burial And Me, Slayer, and Sepultura. Throw in a little Pantera and Tool and that's all the metal I listen too.

Some metal is pretty good. I use to have a metal station on pandora and would listen to that when I was tired and it would make me feel pumped. But it makes me feel sketched out and evil too lol. Music does a lot to my mood and general perspective so metal is something I can only listen to every once in a while.

That feeling makes me hear voices of demons and have panic attacks lol. I think my house is haunted and the music makes the spirits aggrivated and pumped too.

I listen to metal and hardcore mostly because it makes me want to thrash and be violent and also to make music for other people to thrash to.

I've been a fan of metal for about two years. Black, death, thrash, power, and folk are my favorite varieties. I have 53 metal bands written on my school binder.

My favorite is very violent death metal with deep vocals, A good scream or deep growel makes me feel something I can't describe.. severely lifting my mood, like Cannibal Corpse, Torture Killer, Disgorge and Gorerotted

i'm really into hardcore and when i go to a local show like a BANE show i deffinetly feel more calm, although its a chaotic environment, its structured and all the occupents are there for the same reason, and even better there there to support a cause!

Man... i feel this way too... i used to love metal because it actually calms me down... i still love it, but now i have a better thing to calm me down... :stoned:
Anyway, listening some metal is always very good to the mind and to the soul... :chainsaw:

Hell yeah I love metal, theres bands I enjoy in just about every sub-genre of metal too. For getting pumped up or letting out some pent-up aggression some thrash, hardcore or grindcore is just perfect. If you're feeling dark and moody some doom sludge or black/death metal is great to revel in the darkness. I also dig a lot of prog-metal.

Bands I've been playin a lot recently:
Genghis Tron (Brutal shit fused with some electronica in a totally non-cheesey way.. they're fuckin sweet and more people should give em a listen)
Opeth (I think they have a new one coming soon too!)
Gojira
The Red Chord
Converge
Between The Buried And Me

Some bands pump me up, some calm me down. But I really just listen to metal cause I love it. Death/Sludge/Doom/Stoner are probably my favorite sub-genres. I'm not a huge fan of black metal or power metal though, and some "old school" metal (especially old thrash) can sometimes bug me.

Also, the energy playing a metal show is just amazing. I've played drums in jazz bands, rock bands, play orchestras, etc. but nothing comes close to the energy and feeling I get playing my metal gigs. I'm normally a fairly quiet guy, but put me on a stage behind some drums and heavy guitar distortion, and I'm gone.

I remember the days when I thought...."I so love "insert genre here" that I will listen to it, and love it and live it; FOREVER. God, what a brainwashed tool I was, I'm glad I awoke from THAT dreamworld. Oh, yeah , metal is fun to listen to, sometimes.

If you want psychedelic metal, check out Mastodon. Their lead guitarist Brent Hinds is a madman at the guitar, and he's a proclaimed avid fan of all things entheogenic/hallucinatory. Buy the Blood Mountain DVD, get high, and listen. You will begin to wonder whether or not you are tripping.

Metaphor, if you want psychedelic meal you might try some lightning bolt, however they're more noise-rock than metal and I think I've seen you mention you're a fan of them already before.

In that case try some of these:

Fantomas, It's a Mike Patton project, that should say enough also featuring members of The Melvins and Slayer.. they're pretty damn wierd, but awesome
Genghis Tron (I know I've been repping these guys like mad lately, but they're that fucking awesome, and the electronic breakdown thrown in are kinda trippy. Thier new album Board Up The House is mindblowing)
Boris, they're a japanese metal/punk group that gets into some pretty psychedelic stuff at times
Between the Buried and Me, thier newest album colors is kinda trippy the way it shifts sounds from heavy to soft to just all over is crazy, listen to it in one sitting if you can it's meant to be like one long song divided into movements
Blunderbuss, members of Battles and Don Caballero doing thier heaviest stuff yet (if this interests you lemme know I can get you a link to get this whole album free)

oh and... If you want some really avant-garde stuff... Try looking into some of John Zorn's more metal projects like Moonchild, Astronome, or Six Litanies for Hellogabalus ... Mike Patton does the well umm.. I guess they're vocals but he's not really singing more like metal/thrash scat singing, if you catch my drift. Some of it's pretty cool though once you get used to it.

I know exactly what you mean. I've always been a Rock fan in all of its forms. I just prefer the lyrics, because a lot of the time they are a lot more complex and deep than other types of music.

I absolutely cannot stand rap, country, or pop music.

Fantômas are so good! Patton is probably my favorite vocalist.
