View Full Version : Anyway to become a "morning person"?

I've always been quite lethargic in the morning, and lately I keep sleepin' in more than I should.

7:45 is my target wake up, but usually I'll wait to 7:50...7:55 and 8:00 get out of bed.

Actually, I should mention that my alarm goes off at 6:55...I've been meaning to get up early to work out but I'm just too lazy in the morning.

I've read that cardio can help give you more energy in the morning, how true is that?

What else could I do to make waking up easier.

I use to be a morning person. Now I can't wake up. I use to wake around 5am everyday. Try going to bed earlier. Also try waking up just 5 minutes earlier everyday. Then eventually you can wake up when you want. I find showers help wake me up since my eyes normally burn when I wake up. I woke up earlier TO DO cardio and excercise a little. You might want to try something like that, it will help give you energy for the morning. After that you can smoke a bowl of a nice sativa and keep your day moving!

put the alarm out of reach. if you actually have to get up and out of bed to turn it off, its a lot more effective.

The problem is I can't go to bed earlier. I'm an insomniac, I go to bed a little earlier than I used to (an hour or two) but I've tried to go to bed at like 9 or ten and didn't fall asleep until even later than usual.

I already take showers in the morning too. For about a week I woke up early to work out (not cardio) but it didn't help much.

I've done the alarm thing before, but I'd really wanna have energy to get out of bed.

I think I'mma just permanently move my alarm across my room for now. Maybe if I do some cardio that'll help after awhile.

When I say I'm sluggish in the morning, what I really meant was that I have a trouble getting up. Once I'm up I'm fine, but like I said, I've been laying in bed awake for an hour procrastinating to get out of bed.

have something important to do in the morning. on weekends, I'm responsible to walk the dogs and if I don't I get in trouble, so I get up and do it around 7 (I don't WANT to get up any earlier than that... and on weekdays I gotta get up at 5 for church class in the mornings (I pick my battles)

PS: I know walking a dog doesnt sound really important, but to me it is, and I like to save getting in trouble with my parents for big things so they don't stack up stuff.

That's how I am! I'm an insomniac too! I can lie in bed and not sleep for hours. Smoke a bowl before bed, and you will be asleep in no time. Also yes, making the alarm farther away hjelps. Plus i have multiple alarmds go off at different times, ussually the last one is the one that gets me up.

or your willing to sleep through it...which I have done, even with the alarm within reach, hey, I said I was very lazy!

I put it on my dresser though, and turned it up all the way.

Also, I do have something important to do. Go to school. The problem is I've learned I can get away with getting up at like 8:10 and still barely leave on time. I leave at 8:30 and the only real things I do is take a shower, get dressed, brush my teeth.

edit: I always smoke before sleep too. But I've become somewhat immune to its somniferous effects. I usually only get tired to the point of passing out when I smoke a lot...and I'm not willing to smoke my stash away for an earlier bed time.

You just have to change your sleeping patterns. Every night, go to bed, 10 or 15 minutes earlier, and in a couple of weeks or so, you can wake up an hour or two earlier if you want to.

Another thing I found was great to get up, was to move my alarm clock out of reaching distance. Not only that, I didn't put the radio alarm on, I put the buzzer on. I had to get up to turn it off, otherwise I would have to lay there enduring the buzz of that damn fucking clock.

Then when you're up, don't go back to bed.

Yeah, I made sure to put the buzzer on. Before I had music and that was just...pleasant. Sleeping in to Jefferson Airplane (especially white rabbit) was enjoyable.

I don't think more sleep is the key though...I just really hate getting up. I've went to bed before 12am and then got out of bed at 1pm the next day just because that was the longest I could hold it before having to get outta bed and use the rest room. So yeah, 12 hours of sleep/resting and I still hate getting out of bed.

I am really the same way lol. I stayed in bed for 3 hours today since I had nothing to do and nowhere to go. Until I eventually couldn't hold my piss any longer! :p

Try to give yourself a reason to want to get up early like going for a nice walk, or jog. Maybe take a bike ride. Nothing beats morning cardio. Also consider eating a healthier diet. Your body may have excessive toxins from unhealthy foods that is causing a disrutiption in your sleep. I enjoy doing a once a month water fast to help increase my energy and rid my body of toxins. Diet and cardio is key to this prob your having.

The best part of waking up is getting stoned. Wake and Bake and you will love mornings quickly.

I'm the same way, Frivolous. Not a morning person at all, and I don't know that there's any way to turn a non morning person into one. Getting enough sleeps helps prevent me from being a total ogre in the a.m., and cardiovascular exercise will definitely wake you up and get your blood pumping, which'll help you be more alert. My problem is I can't drag myself out of bed and to the gym or onto a treadmill when I'm still in the growly wakeup phase, which generally lasts till 10:30 or 11 a.m. for me. A shower and coffee and morning silence help me acclimate. You can try melatonin to try and regulate your circadian rhythms (do a Google on "melatonin" and "circadian rhythms" if you need to). But I'm convinced some people simply don't take to the morning as easily as others. I've been this way since I was a baby, according to my parents.

I drink at least a gallon of water a day...

I don't eat a whole lot though. I would eat breakfast but I wake up too late. I always eat subway for lunch though. I skipped on dinner tonight 'cause we had pizza and there was nothing I could find I wanted.

I think I may try this melatonin stuff...

I was never a morning person until I got a job that required me to be there by 6am.

Ever since then, it's cake.

Well... Ive read somewhere there is people which functions better at day, and people which functions better at night. Im a night people. Unless i sleep 10+ hours, i always feel like shit in the morning/afternoon. But when the sun goes down i feel MUCH better, even if a slept few hours. Maybe its just how your body works.
Anyway, ive read a lot about this melatonin too. I dont think is a good thing to force your body to work in a way different of its "normal" way (in your case, being a night people), but if you really must do it, i think melatonin is worth the try.

Frivolous, you bring up a very good question...

I'm having SUCH a hard time getting up for my 8am Ecology class. So far, I've been there half of the time, which is good enough to rank me as...failing. I need to get my act together eh...

It's probably because it's stuff I learned in Jr. High..either way, thanks for all the tips! :hippy:

stop drinking coffe if you do, and go to bed at a reasonable hour and eat a nice snack or something before bed because Shaggy always said "You can never go to sleep on an emty stomach."

wake n bake.

GOOD advice! For me its the only thing that works. When i HAVE to wake up early, if i dont smoke, or i give up and come back to sleep, or i do everything with the worst of the moods. BUT i smoke, so waking up becomes an almost painless thing, even because when you smoke just after wake up, you become SOO much stoned! :stoned:

The 1st thing one needs to do to get up early, is go to bed early.
I get up every day at 5:30 am no matter what time I went to bed but I am in bed and sleeping by ten.
I used to stay up late and sleep late but that all changed a few years ago and now I am a morning person. There is nothing good on tv anymore, so why watch bull shit just to stay awake? The only thing missed out on by staying awake late is good sleep.
Early to bed, early to rise. It make me healthy, wealthy and wise.

I don't drink anything with caffeine.

I'll try eating before bed though.
