    British 'lad' culture

I tell you man, one thing that pisses me off about this country is this whole lad culture bullshit. It's a totally alien thing to me and I can only think of 'laddism' from an 'us and them' point of view.

To clarify for those not in the UK, laddism is the term coined for the FHM generation of 20 something males. The idea put forth by most tabloid newspapers and mens magazines such as Loaded, FHM, Zoo and Maxim is that if your a young male in Britain, you almost definitely:

    1. Go out on the pull every night (having a meaningful, wholesome relationship is a serious nono)
    2. Go to the pub and get fucked until you can't stand at least 3 times a week
    3. Have an obssession with football, because football is actually the greatest thing in the history of the world, ever.
    4. Want, no, NEED to buy every pointlessly overhyped, expensive iGadget that is coming out every two weeks.
    5. Think Dirty Sanchez is 'genius'

It's this kinda collective generalisation that every 20 something male in Britain is thick as shit and has values as deep as a paddling pool in the Sahara. Let's just make one thing clear. I'm 20 and...

    1. I have a girlfriend of two and a half years and have never "pulled".
    2. I've only ever gotten truly, immensely drunk once when I was 15
    3. I can't stand football
    4. I bought an Ipod. It broke before it's birthday. That is reason enough for me to ignore 'gadgets' for the rest of my life.
    5. No

So if i'm not a 'lad', then what exactly the fuck am I? Only in Britain can we celebrate mindless drunk culture to the point of extreme generalisations.

Any other Brits in the hisoos know what i'm talking about?

    I understand what you're saying.

It was the same with the "hoodie" B.S. Just because my jackets got a hood dont mean i'm gonna shoot/stab/or rob anyone. Never have never will and my sense of fashion aint gonna change that.

Funny how I immediately sound boring because I don't conform to the special rules of being male.

I enjoy a good toke as opposed to a drink. Not that I don't like to drink, it's just expensive and half the time not that much fun unless your with the right people. Me and my mates like to sit in with the drink unless there are special offers on at our local.

Perhaps i'd be less boring if I liked football instead of badminton. Not that there's any logical way of explaining this, it's just the socially accepted theory in a country that barely knows its arse from its elbow. My question is, if a large majority of the young male population don't actually fit into these neat guidelines then what does that suggest? We are boring? We arn't fun? Way to be a social nazi.

Lol, sorry mate, didn't mean to get up in your face. Yeah, i'm a cheap ass student so gots to save the pennies.

It gets me down because it makes me feel alien, and i'm not the only once. I know a whole network of un-lads. Our thing isn't birds and beers, it's beats and blunts. We don't drink and get shallow, we toke and get deep. We enjoy a good circle of kickups but i'll never watch a football match with eager fascination. And for the last fucking time... JORDAN IS NOT ATTRACTIVE!

Nah, i'm not here to label anyone a lad like it's necessarily a bad thing. It's the principle of the matter. In my opinion, lad culture is almost a celebration of our countries worst characteristics. Unsafe sex, drunken violence, hooliganism. What else is being a 'lad' about, nahsayin'?

Apologies if I sounded like a bellend . Smoke some  !

And lets not start on the "Soristiutes",nose in the air Barbie Dolls who act like brains is a bad thing.
