is rap like disco?
hmm... so i was walking home tonight thinking to myself. i was curipus as to whats gonna be played on the radio 25 years from now, on the "oldies" station. i started thinking that there probably wouldnt be much rap, due to the fact that no one wants to listen to guys from 25 years ago talk about how rich and fly they are. i figured it would probably be rock and alternative that would stick around and people would probably still listen to it. it seemed to me as if rap is the new age disco. i say that not to mean they are alike musically, but more of a life expectancy. sure disco was popular at its time, but it died off and no one listens to it anymore, could rap be the same? what are your thoughts?
peace:jointsmile:
p.s. in no way am i making fun of rap or anything, i enjoy listening to it as much as anyone else, but that was just my stoned brain thinking...:thumbsup:4gan2ja0 Reviewed by 4gan2ja0 on . is rap like disco? hmm... so i was walking home tonight thinking to myself. i was curipus as to whats gonna be played on the radio 25 years from now, on the "oldies" station. i started thinking that there probably wouldnt be much rap, due to the fact that no one wants to listen to guys from 25 years ago talk about how rich and fly they are. i figured it would probably be rock and alternative that would stick around and people would probably still listen to it. it seemed to me as if rap is the new age disco. i say Rating: 5

I don't understand all the rap bashing on this site. SURE a lot of the mainstream sucks, and so does a lot of the underground. But some of it is DAMN GOOD. It's like any genre. And no I don't think it will be like disco.

No way, dude. Rap is a solid genre that can be introspective and complex when done well.
Disco was flighty, topical and relatively rediculous; the precurser to todays gay/house techno that you hear in the clubs. You know, stuff that you'd never buy.
Long live rock!
But, rap is here to stay as well even though it is a bit over exposed right now.

i think when rap hits the oldies staion the gansta rap and stuff like that will fade away while the more "happier?" songs will be played
Give me weed, give me green,
give me somethin wit no seed
Give me somethin I can break down wit
no sticks, ya understand me?

i still listen to empd
and thats old school rap
so if i listen to rap from long ago, the chances are that people still will in 25 years.
i understand what your saying tho, i dont like to listen to people talkin about how rich they are. which is why everybody needs to listen to underground rap, and hopefully it will still be around in 25 years

Rap is too diverse of a genre to just die off. Disco is an isolated form of various jazz, soul, funk and R&B elements. It wasn't ground-breaking stuff.
