Well I want to use something like pennies? Anyone know how many pennies equals the weight of a 1/4, 1/8, 1/2 etcetera? And how many pennies equals the volume of a 1/2 1/4 1/8 etc...

The average penny minted after 1982 weighs 2.5 grams. 28-30 = 1 ounce......14-15 to half an ounce...7 to a quarter ounce and i would say about 4 pennies to an eighth....remember you can't get it exact using pennies so just try to get it close...that's by weight....it wouldn't be a good idea to measure by the volume...since that can vary greatly....

If a penny weighs 2.5g's and there are 28 g's in an onion you would need 28/2.5 or 13 or 14 pennies per ounce... Which would be about 3 per 1/4....

Just weighed a penny on my balanced finger scale (its accurate as hell if you can hold it steady... I always hold it against the edge of my desk...). Weighted between 2 and 3... so 2.5 is pretty much right on...
