ID for Lighters!?!?

What the hell. I went to Tops today to buy some lighters because I was low. I'm only 16 keep in mind. I put the lines on the belt and get up to the cashier and she tells me I have to be 18 and have an ID. I was pretty surprised.....I had no clue you had to be 18 to buy some fucking lighters....what's the big deal.

Has anyone heard of having to be 18 to buy lighters? Do you kids under 18 get denied lighters?

The people hired to work at these stores know that you have to be 18 to buy lighters, but most people think this is a stupid kind of law and the managers or someone who's been working at the store for a while will sell you one without thinking twice, while new people working their think they would get yelled at for something like that. I've never been denied a lighter from a store, but some lady was messing with me saying "you aren't going to burn your house down with it or anything are you?" "No, just play with fireworks :P"

I've noticed the whole lighter issue being seventeen myself. I buy my shit are supermarkets, which for some reason dont care. OR 7/11 there cool as hell, and let me buy cigs and blunts.

i go to a shell station and sometimes they dont let me but sometimes they do it depends who works at the time

heh, at the 7/11 near my friends house that we go to for munchies and shit, there are three employees that work there. Two never sell them to me, one does. So sometimes i'll go and just look inside and looking at who it is, i'll know if i can get one.

It used to be 16 in England but they're raising it to 18 if they havent already. I never get asked for id when buying a lighter here.
