noob is considered a bad thing, while
newb is considered someone new to something like newb(ie)

Actually, 'noob' and 'newb' are the same thing, just spelled differently. You'll also come across 'nub,' or 'n00b', which is also the same thing. It's all bad, and nobody wants to be called one. Who cares if he's a newb? Just give him the information, that's partly what this site is about, right? Helping newbs learn...
