I have a buddy who was a very seasoned smoker yet could not shake his tendency to cough all the smoke out most times. It was annoying. I taught him that a lot of coughing comes from a simple smoke-tickle in the throat. I showed him that if he inhales a manageable hit deep down into the lungs, using the nose a little to bury it with fresh air, it comes back out a lot smoother. Those shallow pulls people do to either prevent wear on their lungs or to accomodate a fear of deep inhaling make you cough the worst. Anyway, it's tough to explain and I don't even know if she's doing it wrong, but that's my perspective
