only thing i ever heard was not to smoke tobacco products near or around them but i dont think bud smoke hurts them, hasnt effected mine at all

Smoke in general will damage any plant, marijuana smoke, tobacco, ANY smoke.

That doesn't mean 1 joint in your grow area will affect them much if any, but continue the habit, especially in a NON-ventilated room, and your plants will suffer. They will not be kind in return when harvest time comes around.

Specifically, the smoke causes the stomatae (air pores the plant breathes through) to close and growth will be stunted. Just in case you were curious about the why part.
