Just told my mom, need some advice...

Well, i just told my mom that i am a recreational smoker. And surprisingly it went over pretty good. But i need some advice on what to do next.

First, to understand my situation, i'm 18yrs old and am about to move away to college this fall. I have been smoking for 6 months regularly and have never been caught or suspected of smoking. I went through the phase of at first smoking occasionally, then smoking everyday for about 2 months, and now back to just on the weekends.

My parents are big time conservatives and christians, and have never touched the good shit in thier lives. But they have always been extremely against anything illegal and even more against weed because it 'kills ur brain and makes u lazy and useless.'

So i countered my moms arguement with, I smoke because it helps me sort out life. It helps me think about things in a different way and decide what I am going to do once I go to and graduate college. She ended the arguement with 'well, i am going to think about all this for 2 weeks, and at the end of the 2 weeks i am going to decide whether or not you should: a.tell your dad or b. continue being a responsible user and hopefully one day stop. (she still doesn't and will never approve of it but will allow it if it helps me)

So now for the big problem, my dad. Hes open minded about some things but even more against weed than my mom. I know if i tell him the first thing he'll say is 'your not living in this house or going to college if you smoke weed.' And after he says that he won't listen to anything i say.

So, does anybody have any ideas on what i should or say to my dad? Because most likely my mom will feel guilty and end up telling me to tell my dad about it.

If there really that religious bring up some bible quotes about how god put everything here for us. Weed being illegal is a law made by man and is fallible to mistake. But in case there not that religious.. If you got good grades bring that up. Keeping out of trouble is another. Any current family members who smoke like an Aunt or Uncle that can help talk to him?

Think about telling him before your mom tells you to tell him. Bring that up, that you decided to tell him without waiting on your mom for what to do. Your 18 and at some point he's gotta see you as a man. This could be a good time to show him your not scared to step up to the plate with him on anything. And before you confront him, make a list of famous potheads and there accomplishments to bring up as a selling point that where not all "dumb and lazy". Hope I could somewhat help you and good luck.

Don't even bring up that argument with a Christian because I'll tell you exaclty what they're going to tell you:

Everything made by God was made for a purpose and all of his creations are great. Hemp was made to make rope. Sex was made to make babies. etc. It's the fact that we have free will that lets us do that bad things with God's creations.

well, first of all, i dont see why you would tell your mom you smoked if you know that your dad is gonna kick you out of the house and screw you over for college if he finds out.

but i think you should explain to her what your dad will do if he finds out, so she would be less likely to tell him.

im just gonna tell you what i did when i told my mom... i asked her to sit down and shit.. i wanted to tell her bout it cuz she caught me a couple of times.. and i gave her this Drug Policy Alliance: Myths and Facts About Marijuana.. or somethin like it, and just explained that it doesnt change who i am, im still her son and i still love her, its just somethin that i like to do and what not... hope that helps...
