Most overrated band?

Nirvana, the Beatles, and the Rolling Stones. The Beatles were alright, but get far too much credit for being innovative, the most important part of the Beatles music was Phil Spector's wall of sound.

Although Spector did post-production work on The Beatles' "Let it Be" album, which was at the end of their output as they were breaking up as a band, he certainly was not responsible for anything that could remotely be called "the most important part of the Beatle's music". Spector also did production work with individual members (Lennon, Harrison) after the band broke up.

basically this whole thread is people naming bands/artists that are overrated and every opinion is challenged b/c someone likes that artist, ignoring the fact that we're talking about overrated music.

I do agree that the Beatles get too much credit for innovations that others actually created and/or perfected. Still, they did have a very distinctive sound, chemistry for songwriting, decent harmonies, and interesting musicianship. They were very influenced by Americans such as Chuck Berry, Little Richard, the Everly Brothers, Elvis, "girl" vocal groups, and others.

I think the Beatles are wonderful, there music was diverse and almost every song was a hit, when anyone mentions the 60's the beatles are the first group that come to mind.

Or better yet if they dont have meaningful lyrics there overrated. well. i seem to recall you arguing for mozart or bach w/e and as far as i know they contain no lyrics whatsoever, anyway.

So you obviously missed the point of the thread, or atleast forgot what thread my post was in. I said that Nirvana was over rated because they are rated highly for their lyrics, and the lyrics are far below average. There are several types of music listening, and if a band wants to be lyric based, I'm going to judge them on their lyrics. Musicians who's goal to is to write interesting instrumental music, I judge by how interesting their music is. It's a fairly simple system.

As for "personal attacks", I don't really see it like that. I called you stupid because you are stupid, it's like if you're Irish and I call you Irish, it's because you are.

yeah, mind explaining how calling me stupid isn't personally attacking? if you think it isn't, well i'm only left to assume, that you are the one who's 'stupid'.. calling someone stupid is a personal insult, no matter how you look at it... calling me stupid is insulting my personal intelligence.... i'm not failing some math test horribly, we have differing opinions... since opinions aren't fact, when you throw around the word stupid (especially when directed at someone with differing opinion) it is an insult..
