I won't close the thread, but I probably should. This is a warning though: if you feel the need to insult someone, do it another place. I'm sick and tired of seeing a bunch of high-and-mighty members feel the need to insult everyone else. Everyone has different opinions/tastes in music, so learn to DEAL WITH IT.

Secocndly i know quite well what pink floyd did for music, they started a new genre basicly. Showing people that not all rock has to be loud and full of profanity. Popularizing concept albums. However the question was, what is the most overrated band, and i gave my aneswer, from song to song its basicly the same. The music is so mundane and boring, i dont know how anyone would consider it trippy, let alone "good". They may have started a revouloution, but the music sucks.

If you think Pink Floyd isnt overrated you have to be totally ignorant when it comes to music. Most people that enjoy pink floyd & take my words for blasphamy probably dont know the first thing about rock music in general. (by this i mean you only know classic rock) Grow out of shell and get off the classic rock bandwagon. They might have been good at the time, but now there washed up.

Theres a ton of genres & subgenres in rock music. People like you make me sick when you confide yourself to one single genre and imediatley dismiss anything that wasnt written in the 70's or played with a bitchin guitar solo.
I could rattle off bands that would make any floyd fans drop a steamer in their pants, however not everyone should know about these bands, especially if you dont have a deep, passionate love for music as a whole.

But what the hell, why dont i spark up a bowl and go listen to Darkside of the Moon. Again. like omFG Da BellLZzz In Tyme R BuGgInnnNN...
pink floyds as mundane as the day is long
to sat pink floyd are washed up is a very sad thing to say, lets get real the most played song all over the usa is imagine by john lennon the most overated individual in history

I dont know if this has already been said. But I think Greenday is the most over rated band. I loved there music when I was younger (dookie album) but not anymore. They are great in concert though.

If you think pink floyd is a good definition of psychedelic rock, you would be sadly mistaken if you listened to some real phych rock or post-rock. Sorry but idk where your from, the "hippys" at my school hype up floyd like crazy so i dont really know where you live that people overlook them. I wish i lived there. (im not tryin to start a thread war so dont take it like that)
How sad. Pink Floyd made precisely two distinct psychedelic records at the beginning of their career, and they are the ones you almost never hear on radio. After that, they transitioned to something far more substantial when Roger Waters took over as a lyricist.

Pink Floyd's virtues have little to do with psychedelia, overall (You can call DSOTM, WYWH, Animals, The Wall, and The Final Cut psychedelic all you want, but in point of fact, these albums are best understood without even considering any kind of drug element. These are songs about humanity, not some nether realm of hallucinations.)

Pink Floyd is about atmosphere, intelligent lyrics, and musicianship. I first experienced Pink Floyd long before I tried any kind of intoxicant and I feel bad for people who think that that's what they're about or that's what they're good for. More people miss the true beauty of Pink Floyd specifically because they've been preconditioned to listen to them as part of a drug experience (Not that I'm hostile to doing that, but more people have completely missed the point of Pink Floyd's lyrics because of their association with drug culture, than just about any other band).

Dark Side of the Moon is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, popular music commentary on 20th Century human existence. If you missed that, I just feel bad for you, and I don't mean that in an insulting way.

People are always looking into Pink Floyd for some kind of psychedelic meaning - and how sad because the truth of Pink Floyd at their best, has nothing to do with drugs, and everything to do with being a human being on this earth.

Religion, birth, death, war, absence, insanity, fatherlessness, capitalism, time, money...Pink Floyd is about us, in the here and now. The timelessness and universality of their lyrics suggest they will be relevant a hundred years from now, which is more than I can say for most bands.

For people who don't get Pink Floyd, all I can suggest is, put down the bong, and listen - really listen. Read and consider the lyrics if you like. Listen to the arrangements, the surprisingly ordered, watercolor landscapes painted by the band (especially in the studio). Think about how you feel about the world, and whether or not the band is talking about *you*.

They probably are. Because they're talking about all of us.

The press and stoners have always represented PF as psychedelic music - they, themselves, do not consider themselves that way. Don't blame them because the public tries to shove them in a box.

watch pink floyd live at pompeii too.
Yeah, this is stuff in their very early career. I do not think Money is trippy at all. It's about...money. Cash. The accumulation of crap. Wish You Were Here is an acoustic folk song about missing someone. I don't see what's trippy in either case.

Now Interstellar Overdrive and Astronomy Domine, Careful with that Axe Eugene - those are trippy, but they were also made in London in the Swingin' 60s.

Pink Floyd's most substantial output was in the 1970s, and those albums are bitterly serious, and I don't get what they have to do, at all, with drugs or being "trippy" or "psychedelic." In fact, the only overt drug references I can think of offhand are in The Wall, and they seem to be fairly negative.
