    NY state tax help

Sometime last year my company switched payroll companies. Everything was fine until then. When they switched I noticed they started charging me a tax called "NYSDI". It wasn't much each paycheck, something like $.90. Anyways I had asked my company at the time wtf that tax was and why I was paying into it. They told me it was some NY un-insurance tax or something to that effect. I don't live in NY and my company knew this. State tax is MA. Now for some reason or another not only do I have to file with MA I must also file with NY? I was using turbo tax and all of a sudden it was saying I owed over $1200 in state tax... Anyone help me out?

Last summer this company went chapter 11 and is no longer around. So I have no payroll department rep to speak too. However our paychecks were issued by a company called "PAYCHEX"

    NY state tax help

this is from a search cause i'm lazy...

Example: Your company is headquartered in FL, you live in IN and work in IL. You pay nothing to FL if you never set foot in it to earn wages. You must pay state income tax to IL on the wages you earned in IL, at IL tax rates. Next, you must pay income tax to IN for all taxable income, no matter where you earned it. But you get a credit on your IN (home state) return equal to what you paid on your IL wages. If you paid (witheld) too much tax to IL, the IL tax forms will tell you how to apply for the refund

    NY state tax help

Thanks Skink. I both live and work in MA, but company HQ was in NY. Thing is, year before last they did not do this to me. And my old company I was in, I worked in every state up and down the east coast that had a Bank of America, no tax issues like this. I'm gonna role a big blunt cause I think I'll be on hold for a long time.

But my tips and wages where reported. Now I'm on hold with NY tax people. Was talking to some lady and she told me I didn't have to pay NY tax. I then asked her if down the road I would be audited since it was reported to them..... Well I guess that question was too hard so I went on hold... Took too long and now I'm in some 50+min Q

I need to make sure I'm not gonna get audited... I've not exactly been truthful the last few years :upsidedow

The more you talk to these people the more you have the chance to be audited... you have no tax liability to a state you did not work in...end...
