Plant getting to tall i need some advice

this is my first grow and everything is going well. I just have 2 questions. I'm growing 6 plants 5 different strains. one of my strais called purple dragon is about 5 foot 8 ( wth 5 gallon bucket. so jst the plant is around 4 foot 8) its been growing since the first of feb. its wayyyy bigger than my other plants. nice and full but it grows about 2-5 inches aday. my light is a 400 watt mh and is about 6-9 inches away from being at its hghest point (roof restriction) I was wondering what I can do to stop the main stem to stop growing an focuse on all the other branches. I was looking into toping it. but I heard it will split it into 2diferent stems that share the same potentional yield. I have already started lst on the lowest branches because they are huge and if left alone to stand straight up they arre about 3/4 the size of the whole plant. so I pulled those down so they will have moore room to grow.

another question is that Its getting so big thaat iits having a hard time standing straight. it doesn't fall over or anything but it feels looseand freely moveable. I was wndering iff there is anyway to make it sturdier.. I just tied it to 2 points on the wall yesterday. I don't know if that is fine or is there a better way to make it stronger.

thanks to everyne for some info. I will post pictures later. I'm away from my computer and typed all ths on my phone. so sorry if some letters are missing in some words.

if you want to see pictures right away. then you can look under the forum pplant problems and click on the thread '' top leaf excellent bottom leaves droopy ''

bending my friend. if you dont want to cut then bend, tie string around the branches that are to high and tie them off to the stalk. Or get a dowel or other straight object and use that to support the heavy sagging branches.

Like he just said bending...wich is also known as lst as i told you would be a good option in my first reply....but wat i was thinkin is if it is 5 ft 8 in tall then u shoulda started flowering a long time ago...I start flowering at 4-7 noeds wich is usually about 12 inches tall or 1 ft....or is it in flowering>and if so how long has it been in flowering?

i got it as a clone, so i dont kno how long it was being rooted for, but it was only about 6 inch tall when i first planted it that was 34 days ago. it is in veg state still because all of my other plants are still only about a foot tall and about a week behind the first 2. so i was going to let it run for about a week and a half more in veg then go to flowering so that the other ones can get a lil more behind them before they start in flowering so ill get a better yield.

Well just from experience on my end....i havent realy noticed a difference in yield when letting your plant be in veg longer n get bigger...its pretty close either way...just depends on ur light and a foot is a good height to start flowering becuase do keep in mind that it will still grow bigger when in flowering. So if you veg to long your gonna run into more height problems like u already have.
