600 watt hps should work fine just keep in mind that you will need some good ventilation to keep the temps down in a closet.

Yes a 600 watt would be great for that size area but if u cant afford it...even a 250 watt would work...thats wat i use for a 4x4 ft area...good luck

Lighting?!?!?!?
i'm using 400 watt HPS for a 4'x4' area and 9 female plants... works fine
Rule of thumb is 25-50 watts per squar foot of grow space..... 3'x3' = 9 square feet
For 9 sq. feet i recommend 325-500 watts, but a HPS or MH will give you more light per watt, remember that! HPS bulbs are by far the most efficient, but Compact Flourescents are the easiest for a grower who is still living with parents.
Have fun

you need atleast 50 watts per sq ft to have good results thats not to say you can't grow plants with less light as you can and alot less during veg but when it comes to flowering if you dont provide good lighting your probably not going to be very happy with the results specifically yield or bud size and density.
