What makes YOU belive?

Kinda simple for me, I believe that life is just more than the laws of physics and all the domains of sciences. I put my faith not only in science but in man. I guess I feel that there is a purpose for everything and that purpose comes with choice and choices require consciousness. Man has this so he creates things with a designed purpose. I don't know who HE or SHE is or THEY are but I think something or someone (probably a group) created the universe and the laws of physics and so on in a eternal loop of creation (the creators are created and create) So, I'm thankfull for all the good in this world wich is worth fighting for to preserve it.

Just a thought....we are on the verge of creating a very advance AI so if you were this AI (machine) and we humans are extinct with no records of our passing maybe they would be in our situation...

I believe what makes the most sense to me. I don't follow any particular organized religion or path - I simply believe what seems most likely to me, and what I "feel" is true (which includes a loving God, reincarnation, enlightenment, the idea that God is best found through nature, I'm a Pagan at heart). So it's not like I'm trying to wrestle with certain doctrines of a given religion that I don't believe in. If something happened in my life to make me feel differently than I do now, then I would just change my beliefs - however, I think it would take something incredibly massive to do that.

I don't know if "believe" is exactly the right term. I try to learn all I can about this existence, explore all perceptions of it, and use an exploration of my own conscious processes to keep adding to my knowledge. But all knowledge changes and grows. All I can do is formulate a view of reality as accurately as possible with the information I've gained.

Now as to why I believe in buddhism.... I suppose that's a complex question. When I started reading about it, it felt as though my perceptions and thoughts had been explained, and clarified, more than I would have done of my own accord. It was like telling me something I already knew, but barely understood. What I particularily like about the buddha's teachings though, is that it delivers what it promises. It lays out the techniques and practices for developing ones mind in that direction... for ending suffering, ending ignorance, and gaining control over ones karmic path. And while the Buddha's teachings are the core of my spirituality, they aren't the only ones. There's incredible knowledge and understanding to be gained from many different philosophies, and they don't all have to be religious. I've also gained invaluable information from taoism, entheogenic shamanism, quantum theory, relativity, biology, neuro-chemistry, yoga, meditation, and my own life-experimentation with perceptions and actions and their observable results.

I believe myself to have spiritual experiences on psychadelics. Experiences that I may believe to be an encounter with a higher power. Whatever you want to call that higher power. I would be really leaning towards athiest if it wasn't for the natural herbs the higher power put on this Earth. After all in the bible it says God gave us all his herbs for our use.

I don't see the point in having "faith". If I'm going to believe in things without evidence, how will I know what to believe in? I mean, is it really just a toss-up between Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Scientology, and Greek polytheism? I couldn't imagine just picking a religion and having faith in it without some kind of really compelling evidence that the supernatural exists and that that particular religion accurately describes how it works. Such evidence, it goes without saying, is severely lacking.

Drop acid and go to church. See what happens.

Ha, not for one minute did I believe you were serious. But if it were true I certainly would not hold it against you. I love religious and cultural diversity.
