Two new reports cast doubt on the manmade global warming theory and instead point to another cause for the recent warming of Earth ?? changes in the sun.
One report from National Geographic News asserts, "Simultaneous warming on Earth and Mars suggests that our planet??s recent climate changes have a natural ?? and not a human-induced ?? cause, according to one scientist??s controversial theory.?
Data from NASA??s Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey mission in 2005 disclosed that the carbon dioxide "ice caps? near Mars?? south pole had been shrinking for three consecutive summers.
Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of the Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, says the shrinking provides evidence that the current warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun, according to the National Geographic article.
"The long-term increase in solar irradiance is heating both Earth and Mars,? he said. "Manmade greenhouse warming has made a small contribution to the warming seen on Earth in recent years but it cannot compete with the increase in solar irradiance.?
The other report offers a mechanism behind the changes in the sun ?? variations in its magnetic field.
Compiled by scientists at the Danish National Space Center, it maintains that the Earth??s climate is strongly influenced by cosmic rays from exploded stars.
The cosmic rays help make ordinary clouds, and high levels of rays and cloudiness cool the planet, while lower levels of radiation lead to milder temperatures, according to the Danish report, which is cited by Marc Morano, communications director for the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works, on the committee??s Web site.
"Cosmic ray intensities ?? and therefore cloudiness ?? keep changing because the sun??s magnetic field varies in its ability to repel cosmic rays coming from the galaxy before they reach the Earth,? the Danish report by Henrik Svensmark, head of the Space Center, explains.
Whenever the sun??s magnetic field was weak, cosmic ray intensities were high and the climate cooled, most recently in the little ice age that climaxed 300 years ago.
Several scientists cited in the report believe that changes in the Earth??s climate are linked to "the journey of the sun and the Earth through the Milky Way Galaxy. They blame the icehouse episodes on encounters with bright spiral arms, where cosmic rays are most intense.?

Global Warming Happens Every 1500 Years Gordon Bishop

Tuesday, March 6, 2007
The response to my column on global warming February 5 was a balanced mix of those who believe in the ??warming theory,? and those who don??t. The column was headed: ??Humans Prefer Warm Over Cold Climates.?
The ??global warming? warriors, led by environmental extremist liberal Al Gore, now despise me for believing in scientific facts and not ??junk science? (radical theories).
Here are the real-world facts as written by S. Fred Singer and Dennis T. Avery in their latest book, ??Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1,500 Years.?
The thesis of their book, based on extensive research, is that the slight warming of Earth at this time is simply a part of the long-established cycle involving activity with our sun. According to the authors, this activity is not dangerous, and is not something we could do anything about even if there any need to, which there isn??t.
Global warming activists, they point out, have not come even close to demonstrating that human-generated greenhouse gasses are contribution to global warming.
??The Earth continually warms and cools. The cycle is undeniable, ancient, often abrupt, and global,? Singer and Avery learned in their massive research. ??It is also unstoppable. Isotopes in the ice and sediment cores, ancient tree rings, and stalagmites tell us it is linked to small changes in the irradiance of the sun.?
That??s right! The sun??s flares are causing the global warmings every so many centuries.

How else could human beings heat up the Earth with all of their industrial activities?
The environmental activists claim carbon dioxide is ??killing us,? a refrain supported by ignorant and lazy journalists looking for sensational stories for Page One of their publications. Sensationalism sells, especially in the liberal media, from the New York Times and Time magazine, to ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and other media outlets.
The evidence that human activities produce greenhouse gasses are destroying the planet is based on suppositions, not hard, indisputable facts.
Singer is professor emeritus of environmental science at the University of Virginia and serves as distinguished research professor at George Mason University.
Singer was the founding dean of the School of Environmental and Planetary Sciences at the University of Miami, and first the first director of the U.S. National Weather Satellite Services, as well as serving five years as vice-chairman of the U.S. National Advisory Committee on Oceans and Atmospheres. He is a widely published acadmic and author.
Avery is a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute and a former senior analyst at the U.S. State Department. He??s written extensively on environmental matters.
The authors found that for at least the past million years, the Earth has continually gone through warming and cooling phrases that have lasted about 1,500 years and were in no way correlated with carbon dioxide levels.
Some of the warmest periods of the Earth??s history ?? including during the period of the Roman Empire and during the Middle Ages ?? took place when pre-industrial humans were not putting greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere.
Even in the 20th Century, when the temperature of the Earth did rise for the entire period, global temperature did not tract with the levels of human generated greenhouse gasses.
Much of the 20th Century??s warming came before 1940. From about that year until about 1975, the period of the most rapid and intense industrialization on the planet, temperatures actually went down, before starting back up again in the 1980s.
All of these scientific data flies in the face of the doomsday scenarios concocted by anti-capitalists and anti-free enterprise critics who are opposed to America??s economic system.
Not to worry, folks ?? the sky is not falling! Perhaps in a few hundred million or a few billion years from now, but not in the foreseeable future.

Well, I'm not a climatologist, and even climatologists aren't sure what exactly is going on with the whole global warming thing, so I'm reserving judgment on this one. But when they tell me there's a 90% chance global warming is being caused by, or made more severe by, human activity, I think we ought to take them seriously. Unless, of course, we want to become experts in climatology ourselves, and I don't think you're any more keen than I am to go through the years of intensive study required to get a good grasp of the subject.

Acclaimed French Scientist Has Second Thoughts On Global Warming LAWRENCE SOLOMON

National Post
Monday, March 5, 2007
Claude Allegre, one of France's leading socialists and among her most celebrated scientists, was among the first to sound the alarm about the dangers of global warming.
"By burning fossil fuels, man increased the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which, for example, has raised the global mean temperature by half a degree in the last century," Dr. Allegre, a renowned geochemist, wrote 20 years ago in Cles pour la geologie.." Fifteen years ago, Dr. Allegre was among the 1500 prominent scientists who signed "World Scientists' Warning to Humanity," a highly publicized letter stressing that global warming's "potential risks are very great" and demanding a new caring ethic that recognizes the globe's fragility in order to stave off "spirals of environmental decline, poverty, and unrest, leading to social, economic and environmental collapse."
In the 1980s and early 1990s, when concern about global warming was in its infancy, little was known about the mechanics of how it could occur, or the consequences that could befall us. Since then, governments throughout the western world and bodies such as the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have commissioned billions of dollars worth of research by thousands of scientists. With a wealth of data now in, Dr. Allegre has recanted his views. To his surprise, the many climate models and studies failed dismally in establishing a man-made cause of catastrophic global warming. Meanwhile, increasing evidence indicates that most of the warming comes of natural phenomena. Dr. Allegre now sees global warming as over-hyped and an environmental concern of second rank.
His break with what he now sees as environmental cant on climate change came in September, in an article entitled "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" in l' Express, the French weekly. His article cited evidence that Antarctica is gaining ice and that Kilimanjaro's retreating snow caps, among other global-warming concerns, come from natural causes. "The cause of this climate change is unknown," he states matter of factly. There is no basis for saying, as most do, that the "science is settled."
Dr. Allegre's skepticism is noteworthy in several respects. For one, he is an exalted member of France's political establishment, a friend of former Socialist president Lionel Jospin, and, from 1997 to 2000, his minister of education, research and technology, charged with improving the quality of government research through closer co-operation with France's educational institutions. For another, Dr. Allegre has the highest environmental credentials. The author of early environmental books, he fought successful battles to protect the ozone layer from CFCs and public health from lead pollution. His break with scientific dogma over global warming came at a personal cost: Colleagues in both the governmental and environmental spheres were aghast that he could publicly question the science behind climate change.
But Dr. Allegre had allegiances to more than his socialist and environmental colleagues. He is, above all, a scientist of the first order, the architect of isotope geodynamics, which showed that the atmosphere was primarily formed early in the history of the Earth, and the geochemical modeller of the early solar system. Because of his path-breaking cosmochemical research, NASA asked Dr. Allegre to participate in the Apollo lunar program, where he helped determine the age of the Moon. Matching his scientific accomplishments in the cosmos are his accomplishments at home: Dr. Allegre is perhaps best known for his research on the structural and geochemical evolution of the Earth's crust and the creation of its mountains, explaining both the title of his article in l' Express and his revulsion at the nihilistic nature of the climate research debate.
Calling the arguments of those who see catastrophe in climate change "simplistic and obscuring the true dangers," Dr. Allegre especially despairs at "the greenhouse-gas fanatics whose proclamations consist in denouncing man's role on the climate without doing anything about it except organizing conferences and preparing protocols that become dead letters." The world would be better off, Dr. Allegre believes, if these "denouncers" became less political and more practical, by proposing practical solutions to head off the dangers they see, such as developing technologies to sequester C02. His dream, he says, is to see "ecology become the engine of economic development and not an artificial obstacle that creates fear."

CV OF A DENIER:
Claude Allegre received a Ph D in physics in 1962 from the University of Paris. He became the director of the geochemistry and cosmochemistry program at the French National Scientific Research Centre in 1967 and in 1971, he was appointed director of the University of Paris's Department of Earth Sciences. In 1976, he became director of the Paris Institut de Physique du Globe. He is an author of more than 100 scientific articles, many of them seminal studies on the evolution of the Earth using isotopic evidence, and 11 books. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the French Academy of Science.
