MAny growers prune these off even if not cloning, for a couple reasons:
-plant concentrates all energy on higher budsites (average size of colas is supposed to increase)
-airflow at the base of the plant is not impeded... very important in some situations... I would imagine most so when humidity is of concern
Stinky, that's what we have been doin, taking the clones from the lower branches and getting rid of all the little shit at the bottom of the plant at the same time so all the energy goes to the top, we learnt to do all this from reading all the info on here, one thing we never did when we topped our skunk#1 but we learnt from our mistakes and thankfully the slunk#1 didnt hold it against us that much lol

    Clones & Yield

The clones we have taken are shooting up so fast and turning into nice bushy plants, which why i asked the Q, would it reduce yield to clone from a clone etc etc.. I aint got a very good eye for catching males/fems early on, cant really tell until i see hairs or bloody big balls !! By that time the males are frikking huge( biggest was a hash plant at 3'4") and a pain to try and get rid off.
