Not really. First of all, most of the Founding Fathers were deists. That's a big reason why they did the whole church/state separation thing.

But there are a lot of Christians who want to use the state to keep their mythology the dominant one by forcing their religious beliefs on the rest of society and giving preferential treatment to members of their own religion. These people are gaining power, and it's not surprising. States and religions have gone hand in hand in oppressing people since Ancient Egypt.

I'm glad I don't live in Iran and I have at least some theoretical protection against theocracy here, but that protection is wearing down, which is one of the many reasons I'm moving overseas when I have the resources.
