Yea, there are many techniques and some lend themselves better to different strains. Some strains don't like to be LSTd.
Check out stuff like:
LST
Topping
Supercropping
SOG
SCRoG
...and so forth. That is a good place to start. Lots o' light always helps. Good genetics, good nute schedule, air circulation, temp and space are other factors.
Some say you can get bigger yields using hydro vs. soil, but that is debatable. Happy reading, bro.

and yes, scrog requires minimal light adjustment. Air cooled hoods are a must. Peace
