There's nothing wrong with his point. If you are going to come to America, learn English. If I immigrated to Germany, I'd be expected to speak German....it's common sense.

And not all illegals want to become citizens. I had a friend who didn't, he lived in America for a few years, had no desire of becoming American, one day decided he didn't want to live here anymore and went to Spain.

Language barriers affect how others conduct business, you have to be communicate with people in that country. What do you think would happen if everyone spoke their own language, we would spend much wasted time decoding what's been said, rather than react to it.

I'm not saying anyone has to strip themselves of their identity or culture. I'm not saying to have everyone speak only English. But the fact is English is the national language here in America. You can't expect yourself to live in another country without learning to communicate with the people and learning some of their customs.

It's a sense of respect a person should have when you inhabit yourself in a place foreign to you.

I'm from Brooklyn, in New York City - and we have about 150 nationalities and ethnic groups living here. Most of them are legal residents, or American citizens, but some are neither.

True as well. But there has to be a universal system for people to communicate and understand, and unfortunately it's mostly through language.

In cities like New York, not only will you have to learn Spanish, but in order to understand, and be understood, you'll have to learn every other language that is spoken in the world - including all Native American languages and dialects, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, German, French, French Creole, Hebrew, Yiddish, Russian, Hungarian, Tagalog (Filipino), Korean, Albanian, Turkish, Arabic, Romanian, Bosnian, Greek, Slovenian, Estonian, Lithuanian, , Norwegian, Finnish, Serbo-Croatian (or Croato-Serbian), Cantonese and over one hundred more.
