Happy birthday. You ride western, I take it. What kind of horse do you have and what's he/she like? I had a horse when I was a kid; she was a buckskin, and too high spirited for me to handle very well. We rode english style (maybe that was the problem), and I called her Ursa Minor, which is the name of a star constellation.

I know that people often worry about things needlessly...and if you're not actually inhaling marijuana smoke a month prior to the test, then there's hardly a chance of it being positive. I suppose there's always a slight risk. You just have to accept it if you want to keep smoking weed. Worrying is bad!

Thank you! Birthdays are great! And actually I ride english (jumping). My horse is a 6 year old Dutch Warmblood/Thoroughbred gelding. He's 15.3hh, bay with a blaze. His name is Lou, and he's a real sweetheart! Here's a pic of him below.

Ursa minor...also known as the little dipper! lol, thats a cute name.

Good looking horse. I guess I misunderstood the part about the pink chaps you got for your birthday. Sounded like western gear to me. Aren't they those things the cowboy guys wear over their pants?

What, me worry? Sure; I work in a cut throat kind of place, a small/mid sized company that thinks it's IBM. Type X pretending to be type Y, if you know what I mean. My job is demanding as hell, but I'm compensated pretty good. I guess that I never quite let go of the 60's while the rest of the world was moving on and embracing Neo Nazi principles. So be it.

I want to thank you all for the advice and concern. It's sort of comforting to know this group is here, and that there is this enclave of (in)sanity I can relate to. And the switchblade forums too, of course.

They are a western thing yeah, but I like them and they're very conveniant to throw on over anything. English and western both.

Were you around in the 60s?! I would have loved to seen those times...

    Rachel,

I must have been lapsing when I said Dipper was a buckskin, she looked a lot more like your horse; black mane, tail, and the bottoms of her legs, reddish brown coat, and a white "star" on her forehead. I guess that she was a bay after all. She was a beautiful horse, and after 40 plus years I remember her like it was yesterday.

Yes, I was there with a capitol T. The 60's I mean. Saw Hendrix, Zeppelin, The Who, Rolling Stones, Tull, Dead, Moody Blues, etc. etc. Went to the original Woodstock; did the green acid in spite of the warnings (they warned about everything). The movie and accounts I've heard didn't do justice to the event, it was more like Resonate's Plateau than anything else I've ever experienced. Played guitar in more bands than I'd care to mention, was in and out of love more times than I care to remember. Drove sports cars way too fast, lived like there was no tomorrow. It seemed like maybe there would be no tomorrow, possibly, as we all half expected to be nuked by the Soviets any day. Didn't protest the Viet Nam war, went there, but didn't kill anybody. Did the Thai in spite of the warnings (they warned about everything). Became a draftsman instead of the next Jimi Hendrix, but don't regret any of it. Have made many mistakes and wrong decisions in my life, ended up as a wiry old man with a cat and a lot of boring memories. Wouldn't change a thing for all the tea in China.

I could try to help you out.

You work for a small/midsize company. A couple of questions.

    1. Does your company outsource it's HR?

    2. Do you know that any of your co-workers have actually taken a drug test?

    3. Is this a job that requires a security clearance?

    Hi Bongman,

Outsourcing? Way! We've got temps all over the place, and resell our products made by vendors in China, Taiwan, etc.

I've taken 3 tests so far, in 5 years of employment there; every 3 months they "randomly" tell 10% of the work force they have to report to the piss test place, usually within an hour or so. It's about a 1 1/2 hour round trip, and a real pain in the ass. Last time around (October) one of the guys in production got fired for a positive. I don't know the details. The company is as secretive as it can be, but some of us keep our ear to the ground.

I'm not sure about the security clearance; I picked up a rating when I was a production foreman for U.T.C. some years ago; we did a lot of defense work in my groups, as well as a brief stint working plainclothes for a local county, and I have been in so many "sensitive" positions over the last 30 years or so that I've lost track. I don't think it's a factor on my present job, just another way for the company to bully us working guys.
