Actually, that is a myth, one that is repeated by many people - while we may not know everything about the brain, that doesn't mean we don't use most of it. MRI's have made that clear.

Socrates did indeed say that if he was considered wiser than other men it was only because he knew that he knew nothing, but it seemed you were saying something else.
Although come to think of it, in the socratic dialogue the Meno, (you might have to look under Plato to find it) Socrates explains how all learning is simply a matter of remembering what you already know. And demonstrates this through teaching a slave basic geometry.
It's not exactly a pageturner... but maybe its similar to what you had in mind?
I didn't read your post before I answered krazy- and you are right about the Meno- though if you compare Plato to Kant it's a good read.
Epistemology is very interesting- such questions keep the mind active:stoned:

This is a much used idea, but nobody seems to step in to explain it. Its source is eastern meditational traditions (one of which I belong to), and it alludes to our belief that we don't see our reality in the way it truly exists. If we could, we would become enlightened. So, we learn how to get rid of our normal, fixed ideas about the nature of reality, so that the real reality will become apparent to us. When we do let go of standard perceptions, knowledge of our true state comes about.

dont sell yourself short, the mind is still amazing.

all that exists is mind, and the illusions thereof.

we are bound to the illusions of the physical bodies we inhabit, bound to the physical laws of the mind of physics.

our minds are in three, conscious, subconscious, and superconscious.

the superconscious is the universal connection to ALL.

tapping into that can provide us with thoughts of any question's answer.

sometimes, all it is is a little imagination and a lot of consideration.

the conscious is our immediate awareness and our perceptions.

it is our link to the subconscious, memories and (seemingly) new ideas, dreams and that sort.

the subconscious is our link to the superconscious, the collective mind of the whole of infinity.

just use your imagination, im sure you can come up with a lot of interesting things.

it's not a myth so much as it is a poor explanation.

we do not use 100% of our brains consciously. our consciousness takes up 10%. to expand that would provide many great results including psionics, clarities of perception, such as clairvoyance, as well a number of physical advantages.

consciously, we do not use more than 10% of our brain.

but the whole damn thing is working all the time, it is just that WE are not using all of it all the time.

WE are not our bodies, but our awareness, our mind, the consciousness that guides our actions and decisions.
