This just happened to me on my very first grow... I've been trying to find a post here to comment on it so that I didn't have to create another repeater thread .

For my first grow, I just did one female, cut some clones to veg, and then flowered her. I let her veg for way too long, and by the time she went into flower, her height was a problem. I bent her for a while, but she was outgrowing my room. The top bud ended up finished about 6" away from a 400W HPS. During the last few weeks, the top bud grew a weird "deformity". It looked like the cotyledon leaves that first come out from a seed, but they were raised up on a three inch stem.

I wasn't able to find any information on it at first, so I just harvested everything that was 18" or closer to the light. Since she was well over 2 meters, that wasn't a really big issue for me. I figured that the plant was using up resources making this weird deformity, so it was best to take it out.

A lot of the leaves and trichomes had been burnt a little bit, and I was worried that it wouldn't smoke well. I dried for a week and cured for a week, and I would say that it still smoked great. I'm an every day smoker, so if it gets me high for a few hours, we're doing great.

Anyways, I'm glad that I finally found someone that had this same issue. If you find that your buds are doing this, it is MOST DEFINITELY a heat stress issue! Like they say, your first grow is all about learning.... lesson learned!
